    I want to give credit to the Black community for blessing us with most, if not all, of the knowledge and techniques that were used in this video. I do not claim to have invented any of this.
    I get most of my hair advice from Power Domi and Wavycurly on IG (simply because their hair is similar to mine) and they most likely got their information from Black women. If I had any Black men or women that I could directly credit, I absolutely would have. I am not trying to steal anything from anyone.
    I simply just wanted to share what was working for me but I understand how it’s important to acknowledge where information came from, even if you don’t have direct people that you can credit.
    If you want more information on these and other hair products that I use & love, most of which are Black-owned, you can check out my dedicated video on Black-owned businesses.

      I didn’t make it about race at all, that didn’t even cross my mind. I pinned this comment after receiving several comments from Black women who were upset and thought that I was trying to take credit for this. However, I understand their frustrations so I decided to pin the comment and let everyone know who originated most of these techniques, I have no problem giving credit where credit is due and realizing that having any kind of platform comes with some responsibility.

    • @tedoymisojos
      @tedoymisojos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@mlpfilmstarfun2867 I have tips. Get some silk scrunchies/plastic hair coils and a silk pillowcase to stop hair breakage. Have you noticed rubberbands quickly become tangled with hair until they are covered in it? That's bad because it breaks the hair short which becomes a halo of frizz on top of the head. These hairs dont have enough weight to lay flat.
      You need some type of oil for the ends of the hair to prevent breakage too. Theres tons at the drugstore. Anything with almond oil, shea butter, avocado oil, any emollient. Doesnt matter much which. It makes the hair more elastic, thus less breakage.
      Get a very liquidy or spray type bottle of whatever says Argan oil. It wont be argan oil, it will be mostly be silicones. These are volatile silicones, which is cool because you can reapply daily with little buildup. They make the hair easy to detangle and manage, look/feel smoother, and look shinier. I put some in before detangling & styling, and after I finish styling & using hairspray.
      Get a Tangle teezer to detangle wet hair quickly withouth breakage, and a Wet Brush to comb hair when its dry: this brush is flimsy, flexible, with bristles that have rounded tips. These help you not break/rough up the hair: less frizz
      For styling and smoothing the hair I like the John Frieda Frizz Ease or knock offs of Its a 10 products. They are all good, but I personally use the smoothing/styling cream and the touch up cream if using John Frieda, and I dont remember which from its 10 XD but they are all good . The touch up cream is for second, 3rd, 4thday hair; you put some on and the hair is again smooth and less frizzy.
      Keep your scalp clean of build up to keep hair healthy. Wash with shampoo the scalp twice in a row if you have to, and you could use a stronger shampoo once a month if you want to (I use a Coal Tar one for this). This is very useful if you have an oily scalp. (I use shampoo & cordish safe for color treated hair (because they are gentler) regularly, and then a stronger one once a month).
      That should be enough to style shiny beautiful hair. If you dont use heat, then It's different beast, because you want to touch it the least possible. The necessity for oils/emollients still applies. Just head to the curly hair section and get some stuff from there. A leave in is enough but you can add a styling cream depending on what you wanna do.
      If you have questions, I have lots of answers and resources I can point you to if you want.

      So something I started my curly journey this year and something really important that I learned is that glycerin COULD be our worst enemy. Glycerin is a humectant and shouldn't be used at certain dew points because it will cause your hair follicle to open, attract more water from the atmosphere into your hair and creating FRIZZ.
      The best method hands down, in my opinion, is:
      1. Shampoo + Condition
      2. Deep condition for 30 mins
      3. (optional) Leave in condition or a penetrating oil... If your hair really needs more moisture.
      4. Styler. A styler could be a gel, mousse, cream, custard, or even a curl defining product (for example: Sugarcane Extract & Meadowfoam Seed Silicone Free Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment) something like that.
      The deep condition/oil isn't 100% necessary, it's optional. It is also optional for that product to contain glycerin or be glycerin free. But the styler should't have glycerin if the dew point is at a disadvantage for you! This is what works for me... I hope this helps. LMK if you have any questions.

    The reason you feel like you can use that Bounce Curls shampoo every time is that it is actually NOT a clarifying shampoo. It’s not even a shampoo. It has no surfactants in it; it has conditioning agents and oils. Obviously it’s working for you...this comment is for anyone who, like me, has dry hair but not necessarily a dry scalp. I have lots of fine, very curly hair and the oils don’t get distributed to my ends. But if I don’t use a proper shampoo, I get dermatitis (itchy scalp). For anyone with similar scalp/hair, this shampoo is not likely to work well for you. (Love this video btw!!! Love your style.)

    • @sovrappensiero1
      @sovrappensiero1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Believe it or not, I’ve tried many and the one that works the best is Nizoral. I use it each time I shampoo, which is about 2-3 times per week usually. I scrub my scalp really well and leave it for 5 minutes. I put conditioner in my ends at that time. Then when I rinse out the shampoo, the ends are coated with conditioner so the shampoo detergents do not affect them as much. Then I apply conditioner again (only to ends...I never let it near my scalp) and I comb my hair then. Rinse it out and apply some kind of gel to the ends (not scalp). Dr. Dray has a video about Nizoral I believe...or about ketoconazole which is the active ingredient in it. She says it has anti-inflammatory properties so it helps calm down the scalp. That’s what I think is happening in my case.

    This debate is really weird to me. Why cant other ethnicities have curly hair? My mother and I both are pale and both have really curly hair. My mom has left her hair curly for the better part of 30 years. I dont think she stole her hair from anyone she was just born with it. I really cant understand why people from different backgrounds cant have similar features. No disrespect at all, just genuinely curious why my curly hair is less valid than someone elses just because I'm white.

    My hair is similar to yours but mine is really thin. I used to wash my hair a couple of times a week but after watching Dr. Dray she convinced me to go back to washing my hair more often. Now I wash my hair every day, and it has never looked better! I definitely want to try out the gel that you use. I used to make my own flax gel, but its a bit of a hassle and it always goes bad within a few days.

    • @midnightmarket
      @midnightmarket 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can put the flax gel into small containers (based on how much you use each wash day) and freeze them. Take one out each wash day, let it defrost and use it, then you can put it back in the freezer until next time.

    My hair is just like yours, I'm starting my curly journey and I've been trying to get products one by one since curly products are expensive. Also I love your look since I'm not a big fan of tight curls, some girls look so good in tight curls but I dont think it might work for me tbh

    • @saraha5522
      @saraha5522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't think you need to get expensive curly products, I'm sure any sulphate free shampoo and silicone free conditioner/mask/styling products from the drugstore or supermarket would be ok, they don't have to be brand names they just need to be free of sulphates and silicones. I can't give you any examples because I'm in Europe and if you think it's hard to get affordable curly products in the US it's about 4 times harder in Europe because we have very little variety here and no imports from the US, at least not where I live. But some brands we can get here that are sulphate and silicone free are Johnson's (they formulated their baby shampoos at least here in Europe so they don't have sulphates), Garnier and Cantu. Herbal Essences also have some "clean" products. These are all cheap here in Europe so they must be even cheaper in the US, because they have to be imported here and imports are always more expensive.

      @@saraha5522 I have started using sulphate and silicone free products but since i live in a very humid place like india and that too in Mumbai, normal products don't tend to hold my curls that much, that's why I've been meaning to get good products and European/US products are quite expensive here so it gets difficult to do the trial and error but I'm working on it. Also thank you for your reply💕

      @@shreyab25 Oooh I would love to visit Mumbai one day. It's just so far and plane fares are so expensive....... Well where I live it's quite humid too on the coast but I find I don't have a lot of problems with hold, I do have thick strong low porosity hair and that sort of hair tends to resist frizz and humidity. But I get great hold from a drugstore gel that costs about 2 euros and a drugstore mousse that also costs about 2 euros. These are just like no name brands so they wouldn't be available in India but I imagine there should be something similar in India. As I have low porosity hair I really can't use a lot of products or it makes my hair look sticky and dirty, because my hair refuses to absorb products. But since it's also thick and heavy I do need something with a strong hold and I find gels do the trick best. Hope that helps you.

    I do vinegar every time I wash my hair, once a week. My hair is very poreous and since its curly, dry by nature, and although I have a lot of it, the hairs are actually very thin. Its actually good for the hair due to the PH, it helps with frizz a ton meaning it helps with keeping my hair hydrated, and with scalp conditions, I practically cured (controlled since it cant really be cured) my dermatitis. I dont even wash it of I use it at the end, since it leaves hair extra shiny and doesnt dry mine at all, and since I dilute it the smell (which I admit can be too much for some) is gone in a couple of hours. As long as you are diluting it, once a week its perfectly fine. Whats more, I use it as a toner on my skin which was super dehydrated and it has been a miracle. Of course it depends on everyone, Im just sharing my experience

      Sofia Brotton, sounds like my hair. I infuse ACV with chamomile to calm & soothe my dry, porous hair & scalp, it enhances my natural highlights, and cured my psoriasis. I just stuff lots of organic chamomile tea into a jar, pour warmed ACV (not hot) over to cover, lid on and place in a warm sunny spot for 2 weeks, shaking every day. Strain through muslin or cheesecloth and use as normal. Calm scalp, shiny & smooth hair, and no need for shampoo at all. Smells a little nicer than straight ACV too.
