    Hey Sandy. Your low pressure is 6 bar and high 150 bar. That’s spot on. I would first look at getting rid of the Sulpherized DeNox cat fault. Low mileage cars are susceptible. There is a service function to regen this cat. My Indy mate usually puts a tank of VPower and a long run up the road (motorway) to clear it. It does cause running issues. But everything else there looks ok at a glance...

    The chain guides have snapped. The chain and guides come in a set for around £100-£200 change the Exhaust vanos sensor. Clean intake vanos sensor. Replace crank position and cam position sensors and you’ll be good I swear to god. This is experience

      How did you know ? I have now the same problem, my chain is perfectly tight but it had a little bit of play before

    I had a long list of faults and in the end after a lot of head scratching it turned out to be no. 1 spark plug the porcelain had a crack in it… new spark plug no more problems, I also know it’s possible the seals on the vanos solenoids can cause timing issues.

    It is normal to have slag in the chain , depends on how the engine stops . There is no hydraulic tensioner btw the both camshaft , so it is normal . The timing chain most of the time fails around 150-200k kms on this engines . This engines have problematic injectors and coil plugs . The plugs needs to be pushed aditionally when you snap the coil plastic over them .

    for replacement you need to remove the valve cover by prying it with a screwdriver.
    remove the old and install the new membrane.
    close the cover.

    Is the Vanos actuator causing that variability in the chain tension Sandy?

    Just wanted to say the two components you pointed at @ 2:21 are not the camshaft sensors, those are the VANOS solenoids

    • @bryanjudefernandez2195
      @bryanjudefernandez2195 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i believe the n43 does not have vanos. im not too sure tho, do correct me if im wrong, i have an e92 320ci cheer!

    • @i80486dx
      @i80486dx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bryanjudefernandez2195 No, @sjakkelino is right. The N43 engine does have VANOS on both camshafts.
      @sandy anderson is pointing at the VANOS solenoids. they act like a valve for adjusting the camshaft timing. the N43 engine also has valvetronic, which controls the amount of valve lift with an electric motor on top of the engine.
      You may be mistaking with the M43 engine of the first generation E46, that does not have VANOS, but a single camshaft instead. The N43 engine (E90, E91, E92) (2006-2013) does have VANOS. Great engine, will work perfect when carefully maintained. Very important is the correct spec oil and services within interval as specified by BMW.

    It could be the chain tensioner

    Have you managed to find the root cause of the rough idle and engine cutting-out in the BMW N43 engine? If so would be interesting to know what the fix was?

    Magic wand time Sandy , let him make the decision , could be normal between cams as no tensioner there , but might be worth taking cam cover off to make sure sprocket ok

    Sometimes a poor quality oil filter can cause timing issues especially the o ring at the bottom of the filter housing being under sized

    BMW RECALL as of today my 2008 BMW e92 320i is having a new timing chain and kit fitted by BMW as its stretched causing cold start and injection issues. If you have a recall outstanding for a "Quality Enhancement" then get in done. May save you ££££s
