as a Fan of the classic Atlantean Namor, I actually like the new Mayan twist they gave him for this movie. seeing how the tribe became the first souls of Talokan, and how Namor got his name from the saying "El Niño Sin Amor" was really cool. it's a pretty drastic change from the comics, but it works pretty well for the movie. it also helps that Tenoch Huerta was so damn good in the role.
It was great bc it gave some real storytelling depth while still producing the same character. They could have called them Atlanteans or whatever and Namor would have still been the same guy w the same motivations, a dangerous antihero, much stronger than he looks, rival to Wakanda, protecting his ppl by any means. They added a story that gave them a direct connection to Wakanda (besides Vibranium): ppl who use a secret power to escape colonialism, creating a hidden advanced culture. It worked well. He was extremely threatening but mostly understandable, and only the return of the Black Panther stood a chance of stopping him, creating stakes for the film. They managed to pull it off after losing the hero and star.

Ryan Coogler is a genius for using vibrainum as a plot device to mirror Wakanda and Talokan, it's such a grounded creative liberty for the context going forward.
I love Marvel and DC, but the truth is that I loved Namor more than Aquaman, the character of Namor inspires respect and seems like a man who really has this beautiful, protective and spiritual connection with his people, compared to Aquaman who seems like the bad boy of the city and does not transmit that loving connection with atlantis 🥺
Namor in the comics however is an arrogant ass that LOVES to throw his royal status around and truly act the "arrogant king" that sees most people as his lessers. He has an ego that is rather immense since he is atlantean, unlike Arthur Curry who is half human and knows both worlds.
This movie balance the aspect with backstory explanation, the music, the fight scene and history with flashback while the character explains is perfect
And yet people be complaining that Namors backstory sucks because it wasn’t from the source material just because the actor was type casted as Mexican, even though it actually did wonders for him and gave him a bigger purpose and not one dimensional

Easily my favorite MCU character, he has so much depth and is honestly just amazing overall. The Maya and the colonization of the Americas fits do well into the context of the previous movie and overall theme of Wakanda, great change and i love how they actually got fairly accurate representation of the people

Nowadays people will hate something over any reason now. I hate it when people hates Namor because he's not comic accurate. But this 'new take' version of Namor was definitely good to me. He's unique. People are just denying the new things and only embrace the old things.

Namor had a good original story but I feel like he was too powerful for them if he wanted he could easily break their necks or something lol but he admired wakanda cause they were outsiders like him also they made it look like he had feelings for shuri
He did it, but I don't think he felt good about it or wanted it to happen that way. However, I will also say that if he really wanted her dead he would have stabbed her somewhere more fatal than he did or finished her while she was still skewered in the spear. Instead he looked at her with, in my opinion was regret, and told her that "it could have been different". He could have killed her so many times in this movie, but he didn't. I know there originally was plans to make them cozy with each other then decided against it, but I still got the impression that at the least, he liked her because she understood why he does the things he does. Idk where they go from here as their characters evolve, but I am anxious to see what they come up with.

Namor isn’t wasteful he wanted wakanda to join them as they could relate to the suffering and persecution, he sadly killed the queen as he had to retaliate for them killing his comrade. Unfortunately he chose shuri as rival who had outsmarted him

When I saw this movie I kinda teared up because I finally saw a story telling the history that isn’t really talked about, and how rich that culture/history is/was, and this edit brought back some of that feeling I got while watching it all for the first time, so thanks. 💙
The Queen died because just like T’Challa they fought an enemy they didn’t fully understand. Killmonger was hurting and wanting to be accepted so he turned to rage to get revenge. Namor wanted to protect his ppl and Wakanda didn’t come to reason. It’s not right but it was a better way to understand. Coming together was the best option while the outside world geared up to attack. Now shuri left.
Lovely video. But, it's really, really hard to see Letitia wright as the new black panther. For me, the writers have a lot of work to do convincing me of that, however, I love the fact that she never backs down from a challenge, and she did not attempt to play the role like her predecessor, but she made it hers in every way. That deserves applauds
I think she is an amazing actor, and she definitely deserves a bigger role in the MCU now. With her as the black panther, I also thought she couldn't do it but by the end of the movie, I was pretty convinced she could.
Best way to look at it is this way: She reconstructed the heart shaped herb for the wrong reasons. Hence why she saw Killmonger in the ancestral plain. She didn't take the herb to "protect" Wakanda or her people. She took it to get revenge on Namor. That was it. No other reason. She even made it very clear to M'Baku when she pretty much ordered him to help her take revenge on Namor. So her story isn't just of grieving T'Challa and Ramonda's deaths but also essentially LEARNING how to be Black Panther. So as far as I am concerned, her story is still in progress. We'll have to see what further character growths she goes through because she has pretty much hit rock bottom and has to rebuild herself.
