I really like Pina's character because he shows a stress response that a lot of people dont think about: hedonistic nihilism. He jokes about his inminent death, fully aware that he can easily be someone's lunch, he dates 5 people at a time and constantly teases others. Its all a facade, hes trying to take the idea of being a defenseless hervibore out of his mind, and it all crumbles down when he is reminded.
Pina comes off as passively suicidal, (not the first time they've explored that in this series, manga readers will know) until this episode where perhaps he finally realizes he values his life more than he thought. Love that it was by way of a practically softcore hard vore scene but it works -

He values having fun over being faithful and thoughtful to those around you, but he also acts like he’s superior than everyone and can suffer no consequences for his actions. Riz getting a taste of Pina,s finger was also Pina,s way of getting his first taste of true fear which he needed. Hopefully now Pina will begin to change and not be the kind of animal who cares about nothing but leisure or enjoyment.

He knows now that being fearless doesn't mean to devalue your life and detach yourself from it, but to have the conviction that you can defend it with pride as an individual.

Because Beastars specializes in making every character interaction sexual, even when there is no need for it. Beastars makes charcter interactions so sexual to the point that they are screaming "SHIP THEM" at you. For example, every time Legoshi talks to Louis they have a Violin playing in the background.....even when they dont even have to... Making interactions between characters sexual is just typical Beastars at this point. A little annoying but yeah...precident is there...
Everything in BEASTARS, not even in just a meta way but in-universe too, is sensual by default. Add some more suspense and tension than normal like in this scene and it becomes sexually charged pretty damned fast.
There was already so much going on in this scene,,,, the scene made my heart pound right out of my chest as it was, and I _really_ don't think it would've been the best idea to give the audience a heart attack after so much exhilaration
