Honestly the first version makes me think that they may not have been close at all. Tem refers to him and Riz as just classmates. He doesn’t tell him, “You wouldn’t eat a friend.” He says, “You wouldn’t eat a classmate.” Which seems more distant. He also mentions that they took classes together, but never that they spent any other time together as actual best friends.
There was that line in Tem's diary about being confided in by a predator, so maybe that initial conversation on the bench really did happen? Or maybe it was in reference to something Legosi said, it's pretty hard to tell when we got to see so little of Tem's personality. I do love the idea that Tem really was love-bombing Riz up until finding out about the pills, but Riz being even more of an unreliable narrator is a fascinating angle too.
So we know that Riz had created a false memory of the event, but I just realized a detail in it; Tem's arm got ripped out of it's socket, but at 2:48 we see him lift that arm to Riz's chest before hugging him. It's a nice touch to show just how much he's deluded about that moment
@@imiguifurr Huh. I almost was going to tell you that he just used his non injured arm but it looks like there were a few frames where he used both of them to start closing it. It's interesting because otherwise that arm is definitely limp. Maybe it was a minor oversight or the animators needed to animate it that way for visual effect
@@Nocturnalday i think the arm was injured but maybe not ripped out... Scratched or something maybe?? It would still definitely hurt... I'm just a supporter of the idea that it was done ambiguously precisely because we're not supposed to know exactly what happened so it is up for interpretacion
@@imiguifurr Yeah I did see a video someone made discussing Tem and his short story, and he included how it differed in the anime and manga. In the panels of Tem's arm getting hurt it was definitely a bad scratch, but the way it's shown in the anime; his arm getting yanked and then his shoulder bleeding; looks like it almost got ripped off of him to me. Well either way I think the anime made what happened to his arm look more serious which helps with the tension of the scene
if u listen to the "real version" (without speech), tem didn't say are you really trying to eat your friend?, he said CLASSMATE. It seems that tem and riz only talked a few times, but riz saw that as true friendship, maybe because he was so alone that any animal that talked to him like tem did would be a best friend. And he became obsessed with that idea (having a friend) that, when he showed his strenghth to tem and he became afraid of him, riz just couldn't accept the idea of tem rejecting him, so he went crazy and... well, ate him... and the speech was just riz imagination.
Man it is really noticeable that something is off here, even without knowing that Riz just imagined Tems speech about acceptance, as Tems entire demeanor changes all of a sudden, he goes from panicked and afraid to completely calm and accepting in a heartbeat. I guess it just broke Riz when Tem told him that all carnivores are just monsters as that proved that Tem never really saw Riz as a close friend, possibly not even as a friend at all.
It may also not be intentional, paru itagaki isn't the best at planning ahead and so the first scene of tem might've been an excuse to set the plot in motion while the version that riz sees may be a sort of reframing of the whole scene...
@@imiguifurr I think in the Manga Riz outright admits that he essentially altered his own memory, he created a fake memory of the event to cope with what he has done. And the dissonance in Tems behavior is there regardless if you watch the first scene or not.
I don't think that is how Riz took what Tem said. He was never truly seen and that was Riz's problem. People thought he was a big friendly giant and he was not. Tem was always the one to see him for who he is and when Tem called him a monster, his emotions overflowed and he lost control. I do not think this were sad or angry emotions, but happiness that Tem saw him through all the masks. He could have also just been angry and sad like you said. The memories were changed to help him cope so who really knows.
it’s so scary that this is also how some abusers, even murderers irl think.. they do all kinds of crazy inhumane things but in their head, it’s justified by their own delusions
i wouldnt call riz an abuser though, the beastars world is more nuanced than that and the metaphors constantly beat you over the head over it in the manga

Memory falsification is a very common thing to happen for those who experience traumatic events. As a psych major, I appreciate the little subtle details to increase the authenticity of the scene and the implications for the story
@@nickyricardo7034 how he got there wasnt detailed/ enough but the end result goes as follows. Hr clearly has strong positive emotions towards the victim, for those with a rather strong conscious the guilt experienced and the signifigance of the act could hsve been too powerful that he went into shock processing it and the mind drcided to twist it in order tp make the information more digestable. One cool thing about the brain is that the brain ultimately serves 1 purpose the brain. So if the brain winds up to the conclusion of twisting the events to satisfy the needs of your body it will do so. Thats not even considering the age of the memory could slowly fade which is how people wrongly accuse someone of a crime. That happens a little too often as a real world example. On a side note though any film that uses perspective well enough can accurately paint the psychology of a fictional character. Works like Omori, Death Parade, use it well and i hope more shows implrment it. It can always make for next level story telling

This scene is so deep…Especially that moment where it pauses 3:36 and shows Riz crying with his face covered in blood…like a part of him desperately wanted to resist. But the other part could not help but eat his own friend alive and love every second. I know y’all don’t like him for what he did and I understand. Y'all know that mental illnesses have overlapping symptoms right? Which is why you need multiple symptoms to be diagnosed. Rewriting how something went down in your head is also a result of trauma.
@@imiguifurr Truth be told, unless the Mangaka comes forward, I don't know for sure if Riz is a Narcissist. I personally believe he is, but it's really up to interpretation I suppose.
@@tmaxim2651 **SPOILER ALERT** It is confirmed, Riz confesses to Legoshi that he made up the memory he had in order to justify himself (his friend sacrificed for him out of love) when in reality it was a matter of, in Riz's own words, "My own selfish devour"
There's also the sad possibility that Tem did say something like this to Riz long before the night he'd devoured him. And in his desperation to fabricate the memory of that night, he inserted the better memories of the Tem who accepted him instead of the terrified herbivore who was rejecting him with every fiber of his being.
Although I do resent him for what he did to Tem, I cannot help but feel sorry for this guy, The society he lives in are so afraid of carnivores that the poor guy had to take medication to dial down his his muscle mass and primal instincts, and those medications made him mentally sick. I hate him for what did to that innocent creature, but it is not what his conscience self did.
@@creepyeevee I thought he said his side effects (like the headaches) were getting worse, and that honey wasn't helping? Didn't tem say something along the lines of "I'm so sorry for you, nobody should have to go through that" and that made riz go ct?

Since it was meant to curb his strength, the latter is significantly worse than before. Reminds me of Toga’s backstory and the defining moment that lead her down to a dark path of villainy
I feel bad for riz but also kinda hate him for killing tem, i fucking love tem even though he only had like 1 min of screentime edit: HOW DID I GET 4K LIKES THIS IS THE NOST UVE EVER HAD
when i seen riz’s pov i was so confused cause i was just like “why tem being weird 🤨” but now i realized riz could’ve made up that scenario in his head from the guilt he felt
I mean imagine you’ve been hanging out with this jacked mentally unstable dude for a while, and all of a sudden when y’all are hanging out he tells you he’s off his meds…
imagine a full blown bear off his muscle pills running at you after dislocating your arm and saying "I just wanted you to see the real me" honestly terrifying
The whole carnivore/herbivore idea seems like it might be a metaphor for a lot of different darker aspects of people. Tem and Riz could've been friends and Riz was talking about some mental health issues, getting closer to Tem who seemed to take him for who he was... only for Riz to misread that and decide to quit the medication cold turkey after realizing how close he felt he was getting to Tem and how unafraid he felt around the little guy. Tem ran off realizing Riz was not stable, backing that up with the injury, and Riz tracked him down and forced himself on Tem and then murdered him in the lecture room, imagining things that weren't there. It's dark AF.
The dynamic between carnivores and herbivore is a tale of what happens when living things try to suppress their nature. Like try imagining living the rest of your life on only rice and water, it would be terrible and you would constantly be tempted to eat something else, anything else. For Riz I was much worse cause of the drugs he had to take which only served to push that temptation even more. Suppressing a creatures nature is a dangerous thing to do that can result in harm for multiple parties
Bad take. Mentally ill people aren't as violent as you claim they are. According to the data, in reality it is more likely for mentally ill people to be victims. This kind of language in fact contributes to the stigmatisation of mental illness. So I doubt this is a metaphor for mental illness.
Super predators was a criminology term that almost made it mainstream by Hillary. Some mental illnesses can be classified this dark. But sometimes Being like these carnivores can benefit. Like in war or to protect.
Goddamn, seeing it like this (The scenes together on their own) Reaaalllyyy makes it clear just how delusional Riz was with this. Lowkey terrifying to think about.
Considering how Tem accepting Riz was all just inside his head, makes me wonder if their friendship was actually two-layered and all played inside Riz's imagination as well.
i find this scene sickening. imagine if Tem was brought back to life, and heard what Rizz had told others. that he ASKED to be eaten, when in fact Tem had been begging for his life. utterly disgusting. trying to justify himself like that.
@@miqolysa I guess since he was eaten alive he COULD have maybe survived? Probably nothing but a head, neck, and torso at that point, but modern medicine is crazy.

I believe they tried to make it unclear to make it more of a mystery as to who killed Tem. If you remember, Bill the tiger was known to drink rabbit blood, so they could have been trying to make it seem like it was Bill, only to reveal that it was Riz.
@@Hazbin-hotel-babe It's not just what they eat. Hippos rarely engage in eating meat but because they can't digest it they are still herbivores. Don't get why this misconception exists
“After that his words and eyes were as beautiful as ever” then we see the hallucination. So I believe what really happened is what Tem “Said” was truly his pleas and cries for mercy as he was being eaten and the “look” in his eyes was clearly the fear. The reason why because all of these things are stuff that calls to his predator nature, so instinctively he goes for it. Poor guy, both of them
OR probably that was not an hallucination at all. It could be Tem really said those words and both of them hugged. Then in that hug/embrace Riz suddenly snapped and started eating Tem face/neck as his true nature made some seconds blackout untill the found himself with his face full of gore and blood saying "Tem". It's up to personal interpretations I guess. Still will be the same result. Poor guys.
@@MishaDalila We can see by looking at the original intro that Riz's full recollection of events is false. The arm Tem places on his chest was, in reality, completely pulled from his socket. It's also apparent that, "You carnivores are all monsters," were his last words before being attacked. The speech couldn't have really happened, and judging from how Riz calls Tem his best friend when Tem only calls him a classmate, it's not a far stretch to say that Riz is having delusions about the experience as a whole.
my interpretation of this is that riz liked tem. from reading some other comments about these scenes i can infer that 1. tem refers to riz as his "classmate" and not really a (best)friend meaning that riz's "friendship" with tem was all in his imagination. 2. expanding on my first theory in riz's pov it includes a hallucination about tem talking about carn./herb. equality meaning that riz's friendship and understanding with tem was all just a hallucination. 3. riz says "as he said that, his words and his eyes were more beautiful than ever." hinting to a possible crush on tem before this, which in consideration of riz being a psychopath his bond with tem must have been something created in his head to feel less isolated
And this is why you always let SOMEONE know where you are and who you are with, especially if you have been explicitly TOLD by the person you’re hanging with, that they become violent off meds, and even more so with this world where the person naturally has the instinct to EAT you.
Man I need to watch this there's somewhat of a real message here about mental health racial prejudice and looks like a lot of other things it looks really interesting
I know Riz is a lot more callous in the manga, but I can’t help but feel bad for the both of them in this show. Tem was sweet enough of a herbivore to hang out with Riz, and Riz wanted to be closer to Tem but paid the price of suddenly stopping his meds. Seeing Tem die with his belief’s shattered and Riz completely deluding himself from reality because of the utter guilt is just really sad to watch
Riz being a murderer is already bad, killing and eating his supposed best friend is also really bad, but what makes it all even worse is that Riz does was a lot of real life murderers do: he tries to justify his actions by lying to himself, instead of having the slightest bit of decency to own up to his deplorable actions.
Then you missed the point, theres no justifying Riz being a murderer but if bro went insane from the meds that were prescribed to him BECAUSE he was a carnivore then at that point its more of a commentary on society rather than the fact that Riz just killed someone.
It really hurts seeing Riz in this. Although Tem was the ultimate victim, in a way Riz was a victim to his own mind, society's perception of carnivores and how isolating that can end up being, and then the medication. Going off any medication can be incredibly dangerous, but especially a medication that causes so much issues. We see in the bed scene that Riz struggles with the aggression even in his sleep so...can't say something like this wasn't bound to happen. I dunno, I struggle with BPD and a lot of paranoid delusions so on some level, I can empathize with Riz. I feel this whole thing shows a much larger issue with the whole way it works in Beastars and how little support for carnivores there ends up being, especially since it seems (I could be wrong) that it isn't a well known fact that large carnivores who grow too big, like bears, end up needing that medication. Bears are one of the most ferocious carnivores out there tbh. THis whole situation just has me sad. Cause Tem was trying to be nice to Riz, just being a good person and that ended up leading to his death. But Riz was clearly struggling with a lot of issues outside of Tem, especially the way he ended up romanticizing it due to guilt and how he was so desperate to be seen for who he was, that he didn't even really know since he thought going off his meds was the "true him," and so desperate for a friend that it led to the devouring and ended up messing up his entire life too. There's no justification for murder, just explanations. I am not trying to justify Riz killing Tem at all. Still, to me it shows almost a lack of true education about such things and I would not be surprised if incidents like this happened more often in schools across the Beastars world. We only really have the perspective of Cherryton and its city surrounding it. I also haven't seen much of the manga, very very small parts of it, so this entire thing is only based around the first two seasons of the anime. Either way, the death of Tem is heartbreaking because it shows what can truly go wrong and how even if some carnivores are nicer, there will always be those that herbivores have to be careful around and they wouldn't even really know who. But also because it shows an issue in the mental health area. While you can't always "notice the signs" when someone is struggling and might do something as bad as this, it still felt like there was nothing really available that would have helped Riz. Still, Riz was terrifying and when I saw how "romanticized" the whole thing was from Riz's perspective, it made me feel so sick. I really liked Tem as a character and how we came to know him too. Season 2 was really enjoyable and Riz was absolutely terrifying throughout the whole thing. It's interesting seeing them compared side by side since the actual times we see them are so far apart :p
for me, this anime is just a fucking mild rant about racism with a very interesting plot thrown along with it.(don't get me wrong it's cool.) and i think the issue with riz is that, it's not the group the person belongs to that fucks the person up, but it's how everyone else thinks about that person.(Like, if you think of black people of all being gangsters and thieves and shit like that, they're eventually going to grow up thinking "well, everyone says i'm a gangster and a thief, so i guess i'm one.", it's just a bit distorted in the context of beastars, maybe i'm just stretching it too much, maybe i'm going wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off what the author intented lmao.)
@@somefurryguy1811 eh, idk if that's what the author intended, racism isn't really as big of an issue in Japan(by that i mean it's not perceived as a big issue, Japan does actually have a lot of problems with racism) Zootopia is more about racism, i'd say Beastars presents carnivores and herbivores as an allegory for men and women.
@galarstar052 Which is a disgusting allegory, males are not inherently violent, men and women aren't naturally more violent than one another, and women also commit rape, sexual abuses, assaults and all kinds of things. That mentality just victim blames innocent males and paints them as being violent. So that's even worse than racism at that point
@@diesemautokerl2181I don't really think it's about sexism either since in the manga we see female carnivores that have eaten herbivores I think that it's an allegory to something that could only happen in a world where herbivores and carnivores live in a society that's what makes the story so incredible, it couldn't work on any of the current settings that we have in our own world because we are humans, the main problem, the main divide it's caused by something that only happens in the world of Beastars
@apolar0476 Oh I understand your point, but I feel as it they're trying to make a (false) statement about males and females, but also fail to disallow sexist stereotypes between males and females in the actual show itself, if it's trying to make an allegory. Trust me, I would love to believe that what you said is truly the case and not some gross false allegory
Something else that I haven't seen anyone comment is the fact that not only is Tem reaching up his dislocated arm during his speech, but his hand placement starts directly at Riz's stomach...
I’ve always wondered if this was supposed to be a metaphor for sex. Or more like a metaphor for rape. Riz is so deluded that he thinks eating (aka raping) tem is the truest form of love because he’s finally showing his true self. Riz constantly talks about the event like it was beautiful and perfect, how he believes that tem really wanted it. Like other people have said, it shows how abusers often delude themselves into thinking what they did was okay.
beastars kinda does this a lot, equating cannabalism with rape. i cant really say from my own experience, but from what i heard it's broadly accurate that getting raped is like being eaten alive.
@@fishkittywhiskers5433 reminds me of the painting 'the morning visitor.' It provides a very abtract but visceral image of what rape is like. I suggest you check it out
What I’m guessing is that Riz blacked out after Tem called him a monster, and became conscious during or after he at Tem, and his brain just filled in the missing gap with a fake memory(out of guilt). That or he was conscious and aware during all of this, and was just in denial. I know he confessed to Legoshi, pretending that he did it out of love, when really, he was just selfish. But then again, I finished the manga a while ago, so I don’t remember.
Poor Tem 😞 He gave true friendship and was vulnerable with Riz. And it backfired on him, and stupid Riz still doesn't see how badly he betrayed Tem and their community.
Unfortunately, the speech wasn't real. Tem only saw Riz as a classmate, but Riz was so far gone that his mind made up this scenario so that he could cope with what he had done. This is a real thing that happens to a lot of people, it's sad, really.
I don't think that he really lost his taste, but after the taste of blood and meat everything else just tasted fade and not enjoyable. But that is just my interpretation
I hate that he murdered tem, but as someone who's never really had friends either, I can sort of see how someone so desperate to have anyone to talk to could greatly misread signals and end up hurting the person they viewed as a friend. It's so interesting how a situation that would probably just go mildly sour in our world, Could end up so drastically worse in theirs
I'm commenting this right after finishing S2E7, and honestly, the thing that I like about Riz the most is how his eyes change when he's in carnage mode, he looked so innocent and seemed like a genuinely nice dude. Throughout season 1 and the first half of season 2, we saw how friendly and chill he was talking with others, but then we would later see that he has trouble sleeping at night from the night he killed Tem, as well as when Legoshi (and Pina) confronted him, he really looked like he was about to break shit open and spill some blood. To be fair, it may seem like he's just coping really hard over the loss of the one person whom he truly considered a friend, despite having trouble sleeping, he had always had it together, maybe whatever he's feeling is an amalgamation of guilt, regret, and relief. Relieved by the fact that he felt accepted by even a single person. He probably doesn't even know it, but subconsciously, he's using his delusions as a coping mechanism, as another commenter pointed out, Tem in actuality only saw him as a classmate, nothing more, but to Riz, he's the best friend anyone could ever ask for. I bet there were a lot of times Riz almost went insane because of that 1 night, but then he'd recall all the times he had spent with Tem, despite only having talked to each other a few times, those were unforgettable memories to him. I do kind of hate him for killing Tem (especially for not taking his medications), but his character arc is just an overall tragic one. He was so obsessed with the thought of having someone to talk to other than his family that he thought it would be okay to do literally anything in front of his best friend, he's been deluding himself about not just his death, but throughout his and Tem's relationship as well. (rarely do I ever write essay-esque comments but for a subject like this I feel obliged to speak up about it since I was once like that to some guy I met online and around my age (but not as wild), and I feel like one of the major problems about relationships like that is that one side usually has trouble handling relationships most likely due to the fact that they've never been close to anyone before, they don't know how to put up a good face to the other party, which could cause problems for both sides over the course of the relationship. If there's anyone out there who was also like me once, I really hope you'd step out of that zone since it'd be in your best interest to do so, and also find better people to be friends with as well as think of more (or better) ways to build up (and prolong) relationships.)
I just put up a dubbed version th-cam.com/video/gUP2vDB30Lg/w-d-xo.html I don't know if people don't understand but the spoiler thing I put was because of the 2nd half of the video the first is the first couple mins of the first episode so if you even try the show you see that part immediately.
i feel so bad for tem, he gave riz all him trust and vulnerability and riz took advantage of it. Not only that but riz still dosent realize how badly he's effected the lives of so many innocent animals. Poor tem :(
Damn Riz was an interesting character, Melon was ok I honestly just liked how surprising he was, but Riz is just unsettling, especially when he was cooking and talking about Legoshi
@@dorreyeet1529 Riz is what legoshi could have been if he didnt have people like louis, and gouhin and if his bloodlust didnt get interrupted by that one drama club member. Riz had no one til he met tem. Then he killed tem and went off the deep end.
The way I see it their relationship and Riz being a carnivore is to an extent a metaphore for him having some kind of mental illness or problem and he has to take drugs to not spiral out of control. It is able to give him a "normal" life but it also makes him feel like he can't be himsefl if he takes it and in turn can't show his true self around other people. When Tem talked to him, he thought he didn't need the medication anymore because someone can accept his true self but that backfired because he takes those for a reason and ended up killing Tem. The way he saw it could also be like a psycothic vision, he thought Tem accepted him fully and let him kill him but in reality he was scared of him and felt betrayed before dying.
Is a whole metaphore of how society normalice that mens usually think they be able to murd3r/r4pe womans for nothing more that satisfying their lowder instincts. You know: "like just a piece of meat"
You know. I'm willing to actually give Riz some credit. He probably *did* want Tem to see his real side. But Tem realized the danger he was in and how bad it was that Riz wasn't taking his suppressants. He started to get frightened, when Riz went to grab his arm to calm him down, but like when Tao accidentally ripped Kibi's arm off in the season. When Tem started to back away and Riz reached out, and he accidentally dislocated and slightly tore his arm off. At this point Tem became terrified and believed he was going to die and immediately took off running. Riz was about to if not started to give chase when the scent of Tem's blood overtook his senses. And more and more of Tem's blood wafted into mind, turning him for the hunt. It is likely true that when he snapped out of it at 3:09, to some level that's what happened. Confused, delirious, and potentially even scared. He found himself in-front of Tem's acutely mangled remains. I wouldn't be surprised if even right then and there, is when the 'friendship' lie started. Potentially to savor what remains of his friend before he is gone forever. As it's the last time he will ever be in-front of his deceased friend again. There's obviously a twisted logic to that, but considering the situation, I can't say that's a surprise. It IS a Murder after all. A murder Riz didn't want to commit. I honestly feel bad for the carnivores of Beastars. Living in a body where at the pull of a trigger, they could annihilate the ones they love. All because they're a carnivore, and the other. A herbivore. It's a cruel world. Edit: After reading some comments, it's totally possible that maybe what happened up until Riz entered the classroom is true. Riz has been shown to be very lonely and isolated, and I can't even imagine what taking meds to suppress things within yourself for everyone around you does to a person mentally. But his developing bond with Tem got shut down in the classroom when rejected by Tem when he said "You carnivores are all monsters!" Riz rejected again, pained, hurt, angry. In his current state, perhaps blacked out? I feel like I trust this reedition of the events less, but in the manga and show, it's clear that blood alone doesn't trigger their primal urges, and even at times fear doesn't either. It makes me wonder what the prerequisites are to make a carnivore lose control. Then again that is a deeply personal thing that varies from person to person I imagine. People below have pointed out that Tem refers to Riz as a Classmate, and not as a friend. Which is curious, as I can definitely see that lending to the idea of Riz killing Tem with rejection, pain, and isolation he's felt all his life. Not only is Riz's feelings one-sided but someone he cares for, called him a monster. A view Riz has heard and felt time and time again, except this time. Blasted into his face at his most vulnerable. Honestly, the events surrounding Tem's murder, and Tem and Riz as people are truly curious. It makes me want to know what truly went down there, moment by moment. And who Tem is as a person. There is a lot of idealizing of Tem in this series from a lot of people. Was Tem truly an accepting and caring person. Or is this really the bitter resentment he carries in his heart deep down inside. And who was Riz before the murder? Before this horrible traumatic incident tore his identity and being apart. It's all really curious. And I appreciate the lengths the story goes to portray Riz as a sympathetic antagonist. His crime was horrible, and not without severe condemnation. But a lot of pain within Riz helped boil up this terrible concoction of a situation. The situation was complex, and in tandem with the fragile social framework of the series that often seemingly threatens to collapse. In some ways, it felt like a disaster waiting to happen.
People compare Beastars to Zootopia for obvious reasons, but it seems like the discrimination in Beastars is a lot more warranted, given that carnivores admit to having the desire to kill and eat herbivores, and act on that desire fairly often throughout the show. The herbivores are right to put their lives and limbs first before some carnivores' feelings.
The murder solution arc is honestly where this show should have ended. NOTHING topped the drama of this moment and Riz as a character. So good, so tragic. It’s so sad and scary that his delusion was this strong, he truly thinks he did nothing wrong.
Yeah I believe he is, in another episode he describes how Tem allowed him to eat him. How it was a proof of their friendship and showed how much Tem cared about him.
It's a mixed bag of emotions. The mandatory pills were wearing him down with all the side effects, his predatory instincts combined with how society treats carnivores heavily colored his views, his feelings for Tem combined with quitting the pills cold turkey excacerbated things once the rejection happened, and the grief and denial of having committed the act caused him to intentionally idealize his memory of the night to rationalize things.

This anime … well also manga since manga does take a more deeper dark tone This series is not furry as like people say furry is This series literally applies the meaning and behavior of racism, discrimination, corruption, hate, terrorism, etc… all that make life dark … in the bodies of living animals with the same intellect as us … Like if our life was of a animal in the city .. it would be harsh .. think of all the animals with poison, grey claws, super strength , etc
I mean when you get down to it it is a furry show but people’s understanding and prejudice when it comes to that term isn’t reasonable. It’s like the word anime fan or weeb in the 2000s. This series is a very solid drama and i really enjoyed my time with it, the animal characteristics only make the word that much more complex
@@PRchris13 No... Furry is any anthropomorphic animal/creatures with human personalities and characteristics. Just because YOU think it is purely referenced to something sexual, does not mean it is so.

there is so little nuance in these comments? riz CANNOT "open his eyes" he literally has delusions. these are hallucinations, not him excusing his behaviors. he's suffering from his brain turning in on itself. obviously that doesn't make murder okay, but it was not a conscious choice of his. Riz didn't choose to kill tem, he was unstable and his body did. it wasn't really premeditated or a decision and that's what hurts the worst.
I do agree, but, just because it isn't your fault (mental illness) doesn't mean it's not your responsibility when you inflict harm onto others. It's horrible in many ways but he should still be held accountable for his actions, regardless if he was sound mind or not, he still did them. It's just unfortunate that he was pushed to do this by society and nobody else helped him before
Huh, I am sure that in the manga it didn't feel like he made up what tem said. And Considering how herbivores and canivores feel towards eachother it also made some sense... In a strange way...
It’s a shame someone wasn’t up at the time- And prehaps could of saved tem and got riz help- Well… there is a fanfic of where legobrick saves tem, and the events of the story change Obviously- I don’t think it’s been updated for a while tho-
So, Tem basically got fucked over because Riz had a mental based issue due to the stress of getting feared as a carnivore and what not? Yikes, Tem might have lesser screen time then even TenTen-
You can see the guilt there. The tears streaming down his face as his mouth drips of Tem's blood. If that's not some of the darkest stuff in Beastars, what is?
I sympathized with the guy but can't empathize. 1) He forgot his medication. Okay, people commit chemical-related acts of violence all the time. 2) Suffering is *never* an excuse to cause more suffering. He didn't love Tem. He loved that Tem acknowledged him. Textbook narcissist. He took attachment way too far for rehabilitation. Narcs are sad, lonely.. not inherently evil. But FUCK RIZ. HE DIDN'T FEEL GUILTY FOR A SECOND. When clarity f i n a l l y clicked in his mind, he only thought of himself. Upset he did something others say is "bad" - that he was caught. Not about the ramifications for the school, his peers. Not that Tem was hurt, dead, gone! Instead of seeking help, or wanting to be a better person.. he was willing to hurt more people. Fighting Legoshi was the only way out that his ego would be satisfied. There's NO WAY to romanticize this shit when you get it. Beautiful show, though. I'm glad they touch on so many distinctions.
Probably Riz was the one that thought they were great friends
Yeah, they spoke a few times, but weren't close. Riz latched on to him, though. He thought they were best friends.
This kinda applies to Legosi as well though no? They didnt really talk outside the club locker room if I recall correctly.
yeah, it was kind of a parasocial infatuation. i think riz is mentally unwell on top of his normal bear troubles
I never noticed that wow
I mean... at 0:25 he also uses his arm to close the door... 🤔🤔
@Thatonepp bruh
That's pretty clever
@@evanluck1229 mh
Yoooooo, I really like that whole concept. It’s quite sad tbh, still not a fan of Riz tho ;-;
Didn’t we see him being friendly with his roomates!?
It's entirely plausible that she may not even had known (or cared to know) who tem's killer was...
I think Tem really saw Riz as his friend, but in a situation like that he panicked and said that.

Though I'm an intelligent person & no stranger to psychology, as a psychology major do you mind giving me your own breakdown of this scene?

Yes riz basically just imagined this. The real version he just eats Tem but this is how Riz's brain decided to interpret his actions.

There's also the sad possibility that Tem did say something like this to Riz long before the night he'd devoured him.

The speech couldn't have really happened, and judging from how Riz calls Tem his best friend when Tem only calls him a classmate, it's not a far stretch to say that Riz is having delusions about the experience as a whole.
my interpretation of this is that riz liked tem. from reading some other comments about these scenes i can infer that
1. tem refers to riz as his "classmate" and not really a (best)friend meaning that riz's "friendship" with tem was all in his imagination.
2. expanding on my first theory in riz's pov it includes a hallucination about tem talking about carn./herb. equality meaning that riz's friendship and understanding with tem was all just a hallucination.
3. riz says "as he said that, his words and his eyes were more beautiful than ever." hinting to a possible crush on tem before this, which in consideration of riz being a psychopath his bond with tem must have been something created in his head to feel less isolated
And this is why you always let SOMEONE know where you are and who you are with, especially if you have been explicitly TOLD by the person you’re hanging with, that they become violent off meds, and even more so with this world where the person naturally has the instinct to EAT you.
No one talks about how good at parkour Tem is. Mans skipped like 7 steps and landed with a broken arm.

@SleepyGirl can you not man
@SleepyGirl have you even watched it ? 😂
@SleepyGirl You're one of the examples really HAHHHAHA
1:24 Mutual understandings between species
So ironic
I thought the same thing
Ikr I love it!
that was the idea

Yeah, he would have broken something
0:44 - 0:52 is way too long to be rolling down steps
What I’m guessing is that Riz blacked out after Tem called him a monster, and became conscious during or after he at Tem, and his brain just filled in the missing gap with a fake memory(out of guilt). That or he was conscious and aware during all of this, and was just in denial.
I know he confessed to Legoshi, pretending that he did it out of love, when really, he was just selfish. But then again, I finished the manga a while ago, so I don’t remember.
I don’t think he meant to at first, but at the smell of blood he certainly lost control
At least that’s what I got from the show
Poor Tem 😞 He gave true friendship and was vulnerable with Riz. And it backfired on him, and stupid Riz still doesn't see how badly he betrayed Tem and their community.
Well, Riz thought he didn't need those pills, trying desperately to change. But yeah it backfired.
Unfortunately, the speech wasn't real. Tem only saw Riz as a classmate, but Riz was so far gone that his mind made up this scenario so that he could cope with what he had done. This is a real thing that happens to a lot of people, it's sad, really.
riz is such a good villain! he isn't just powerful, he's also unsettling on a deeply emotional level!
And smart
From 2:30 and on seems like (at least to me) it was where the dilutions kick in for him to cope with he murder
yeah riz pretty much went feral after tem called him monster so that's all made up
Man Riz just makes my stomach turn for some reason. Just so disturbing for me which is surprising. They did a great job with this show
After this, he lost his taste for some reason and in the manga, he is caught and is put away. I do not feel bad for him honestly.
I don't think that he really lost his taste, but after the taste of blood and meat everything else just tasted fade and not enjoyable. But that is just my interpretation
@@miqolysa yea i think that's it
I hate that he murdered tem, but as someone who's never really had friends either, I can sort of see how someone so desperate to have anyone to talk to could greatly misread signals and end up hurting the person they viewed as a friend.
I know tem only had 1 minute of screentime, i freakin love him, rip. Riz needs to open his eyes and recall what really happened.
I just put up a dubbed version th-cam.com/video/gUP2vDB30Lg/w-d-xo.html
I don't know if people don't understand but the spoiler thing I put was because of the 2nd half of the video the first is the first couple mins of the first episode so if you even try the show you see that part immediately.
i feel so bad for tem, he gave riz all him trust and vulnerability and riz took advantage of it. Not only that but riz still dosent realize how badly he's effected the lives of so many innocent animals. Poor tem :(
still can't get over now good beastars animation is
Either you gotta cope with lifetime meds so you won't hurt other people...
Or...
YOU will hurt other people...
Just because someone's off their meds doesn’t mean they're gonna murder someone...
@@bobtheball5384 That may be true, but you never know
Damn Riz was an interesting character, Melon was ok I honestly just liked how surprising he was, but Riz is just unsettling, especially when he was cooking and talking about Legoshi
Seems more like a possibility if legoshi hadn’t met haru
@@dorreyeet1529 Riz is what legoshi could have been if he didnt have people like louis, and gouhin and if his bloodlust didnt get interrupted by that one drama club member. Riz had no one til he met tem. Then he killed tem and went off the deep end.
The whole hallucination thing that Riz has as he's actually devouring Tem, doesn't that remind anyone of the opening to season 1?
Poor tem he didn’t deserve this :(
Who else wanted to see what Tems body looked like after he was eaten?
I know I kinda did when I saw they had a grave.
The teeny, tiny, normal part of me says no. But the rest of me, the weird crackhead chaotic gremlin, says yes.

@@lonelyronin2428BITCH WHAT
The mind can do a lot of creepy and weird ass things when it’s trying to protect itself
I feel so sorry for both of them. Poor babies.
But his developing bond with Tem got shut down in the classroom when rejected by Tem when he said "You carnivores are all monsters!"
Riz rejected again, pained, hurt, angry.
There is also some interesting dynamics when the herbivores actively participate in ending other herbivores to make money on the black market.
"It is like a beautiful melody played in the mind of the killer, seen in the eyes of the victim"
Not original by me, but it works perfectly here!
The murder solution arc is honestly where this show should have ended. NOTHING topped the drama of this moment and Riz as a character. So good, so tragic. It’s so sad and scary that his delusion was this strong, he truly thinks he did nothing wrong.
Well if I remember briefly back in the first season it was mentioned that a tiger ate his herbivore wife because he loved her so much
Anyone else think that Riz had a thing for Tem? Is it just me?
Hm, probably
The fact that they made a parallel with Legoshi and Haru just proves your headcanon
For some reason now im just- disgusted...
For me that's a good reaction to this scene and riz.
It takes a strong man to deny what's in right in front of him, and if the truth is undenyable, you create your own.
WHY AM I SEEING THIS AFTER 2 YEARSS
I WAS OVER IT ALREADY 😭😭😭
DEAR GOD
Thanks for uploading this but WTH this bear deranged?
Yeah I believe he is, in another episode he describes how Tem allowed him to eat him. How it was a proof of their friendship and showed how much Tem cared about him.
@@Gamefreq184 At least that hallucination
might explain the way Riz sees how Tem did die.
What are the odds of Tem eventually reincarnating?
Cuz he didn't take his pills
It's a mixed bag of emotions.
The mandatory pills were wearing him down with all the side effects, his predatory instincts combined with how society treats carnivores heavily colored his views, his feelings for Tem combined with quitting the pills cold turkey excacerbated things once the rejection happened, and the grief and denial of having committed the act caused him to intentionally idealize his memory of the night to rationalize things.
The side effect of throwing out his de-powering meds. Also the meds makes his tastebuds numb.
Damn it if you do, damn it if you don't, basically.
I remember in the manga you can see Tem's arm on Riz' shoulder giving a sense of desmembration and fighting/struggle
Riz should have just kept taking his meds
These two make me so freaking sad, that's why i need a tem live AU so bad T.T
This reminds me of the s1 opening when Leboshi starts dancing with Haru and then we just see him crying to the moon with her skull by his side
Wow...I always saw him eating her in the end, but never realised her skull...only the blood O.O
I feel bad for Riz :-( His strength is his own worse enemy
I swear when I saw season 2 and saw what he thought when killing Tem I got confused as soon as I heard what *He* Heard before eating him.
*no matter what is was like your still a killer*
The jotaro snake couldn't have done anything because Riz was stronger also he didn't tell anyone because he didn't want that court shit (MAYBE JUST MAYBE NOT CANON JUST MAYBE)
If you look during season 1 Riz is nowhere to be found but he appears in season 2 out of nowhere but he was apparently always there so we all should have known it was him.
This anime … well also manga since manga does take a more deeper dark tone
This series is not furry as like people say furry is
This series literally applies the meaning and behavior of racism, discrimination, corruption, hate, terrorism, etc… all that make life dark … in the bodies of living animals with the same intellect as us …
Like if our life was of a animal in the city .. it would be harsh .. think of all the animals with poison, grey claws, super strength , etc
I mean it literally is furry mate lol
@@andrewsigler7437 yup .. but when people call something furry.. they only mean it as sexual or perverted only
Which if we see here .. is highly not
@@PRchris13 No... Furry is any anthropomorphic animal/creatures with human personalities and characteristics. Just because YOU think it is purely referenced to something sexual, does not mean it is so.
@@harpiessnow and I don’t see it sexual
I’m saying that when it is mentioned by some people they use it as if it was sexual
And even people have criticized this anime by making it look furry in term of perverted …
Like if one mention this anime .. the replies are of “lol your into furry .. what a freak”
Or stuff related to that line
At this point one liking anime with furry animals in it
Will trigger any stupid saying that one is into Furry as a sexual term
oh man the mental illness. I feel bad for that bear
there is so little nuance in these comments? riz CANNOT "open his eyes" he literally has delusions. these are hallucinations, not him excusing his behaviors. he's suffering from his brain turning in on itself. obviously that doesn't make murder okay, but it was not a conscious choice of his.
It's just unfortunate that he was pushed to do this by society and nobody else helped him before
"What is better Dovahkin : to be born good ? Or to overcome you evil nature through constant effort ?"
If jotaro was here he would have just said yare yare daze and just ora'd the shit out of rizz not believing his sob story

Stop applying JoJo to everything kid, it’s annoying
I THOUGHT IT WAS MY MAN BILL THAT KILLED TEM.
GOOD GRIEF.
Huh, I am sure that in the manga it didn't feel like he made up what tem said. And Considering how herbivores and canivores feel towards eachother it also made some sense... In a strange way...
Maybe cuz of what haru mentioned when putting her head into legoshis mouth? She said it was her "herbivore/prey instinct"
It’s a shame someone wasn’t up at the time-
And prehaps could of saved tem and got riz help-
Well… there is a fanfic of where legobrick saves tem, and the events of the story change
Obviously-
I don’t think it’s been updated for a while tho-
I knew it was a bear and It confirmed my suspicion because in the first episode they did not show his face.
I was having a good day and now I’m crying…
In the manga is known that he was scared. He didn’t want to be eaten

Riz got no rizz
I love how the daughter of the creator of Baki is just as weird and freaky as her dad
Damn people are really hating on Riz for something he can't control
I agree. It's not Riz fault, although he did something terrible.
i like to mix it up a little with "Darling" by Goodbye june during this. sets the mood..
Before anyone throws out "don't kink shame" - well yeah, no. Be a sadist, fine. Not a psycho murderer.
I got chills the first time I saw Riz's twisted POV. Its fucked up!
