It's so funny hearing you use the same voice as the guy who walks around neighbourhoods petting cats while you are going around picking up Kites. Btw I am actually a big fan of Kite (A)s in early game because of the additional OPs. Kite's with expanded missile racks are nice at distracting larger ships but also great at taking down escaping ships in pursuits. Additionally, they cost negligible supplies to either field or recover.
this works well sure. but wolf frigates are WAY better, especially with the perk that makes deployment cost 20% cheaper. not only do they have strong shields but also teleport away from the missiles that "could" kill them.
Against small fleets and d-modded ships your kite swarm proved to have some bite, but there was no chance for them to fight the station, even if it was alone. Kites don't have enough punch to take the shields, much less the armor of the station (which by the way, was a level 3 midline station, that means enough shields and armor to give problems to a fleet of destroyers), and the station can (as proven) one-shot them 1 every 5 seconds. That, and the CR timer for the kites is ridiculously low (it's the most basic military grade frigate, almost an oversized fighter). They couldn't be in the fight long enough to do something against that station. :)
I'm doing my first starsector run and recently bought 5 kites to act as large fighters and they've actually been awesome for swarming ships too small for my bigger ones to worry about and I'm having a blast with them. Missiles cover the screen at all times
