Cheddar, your doom has a really really powerful special ability you can use. If you press the space bar you drop a purple looking phase mine. The mines can be spammed by mashing the space bar, but thats not even the best thing about them. The phase mines can also be deployed while your ship is phased. So you can do damage while no one can touch you. Make sure you don't overload yourself though, since phase mines generate a lot of flux when you use them.
@@PapaCheddar Space pauses the game? Hmmm... I might be remembering things wrong here. Check the keybindings in that case. Or maybe the description of your Doom ship. I know there is a key that activates a ship's special ability. On my Mule it was F. It would engage mobility thrusters.
@@PapaCheddar Well don't feel bad about missing it, because when I first started playing starsector I didn't know ship special abilities were a thing. Btw speaking of ship abilities. I noticed that your main flagship was an Appogee before you made the phase fleet in this vid. That ship also has a really useful special ability. Flares. And they cost 0 flux to use. You can spam them all the time with 0 downsides whenever you see a missile headed your way. I don't think the flares work against reaper torpedoes though, since reapers are dumb fire rockets with no tracking system. So there is nothing that makes the reaper lock onto the flares in the first place.
The Apogee is probably one of my favorites lol. Flare spam ftw! Found it to be such a good anchor for the rest of the fleet. I've moved past it now but i keep it around for that survey. Nice to have an extra tanky ship around too. The apogee was the only other ship left besides myself against some doritos the other day 😅
11:38 there's a very useful skill which lets you take shortcuts for situations like this or when you have to run. it's called traverse jump you should have it (if you picked a specific navigation skill or did some galatia missions)
When you go towards an enemy, go straight through them while turning around, once you are behind them and clear let the cannons loose :) you will avoid pretty much taking any damage that way and do a lot more damage if their shields either don’t make it in time or only face forwards, plus you can disable their engines easily that way so you can easily maneuver for phase 2…. Hehe see what I did there.
While phasing is part of their abilities I don't think you used any of the systems the ships have. Almost all phase ship abilities are to power up phase playstyle. Afflictor with 2 AM blasters or Reapers can hit F and fire to instantly delete most destroyers/cruisers and then instantly phase back into the ether to drain flux and reposition. Any enemy ship that uses a burn drive can be instantly blammed with Doom mines or you can just place them behind an enemy ship and it will be forced to face its shield towards the mines while you reaper their now exposed front. Also at 17 minutes your ship got destroyed but saved by its Phase Anchor which saves the first ship on your fleet equipped with it that would die is instantly retreated to safety instead.
Yeah i completely spaced on the ships abilities 😂 lol. I'll need to try it again. Ohhh phase anchor. That makes sense. I was so confused. Thank you! I guess it's braver than retreating, going down with the ship and all. But my bad pilot skills are showing haha.

I _love_ phase ships. They're awesome. I will say, if giving the Doom to AI, your best bet is to use them as a missile spammer, the front fixed hardpoints are so far apart the AI has trouble utilizing fixed weapons that don't have some kind of tracking. Load them up with tracking missiles on the outer hardpoints and two reaper torps on the inner hardpoints, and expanded missile racks as a hullmod and put 2 antimatter blasters on the front turrets if you have the OP for it and access to the antimatter blasters. All combat phase ships also need the Hardened Subsystems hullmod if you're using them as your main fleet composition. Once you start racking up enough SP to build in hullmods, build in the missile racks on your Doom, and deck out your non-combat phase ships (Revenant) with efficiency overhaul and a bunch of hullmods that just make them more useful, like auxiliary fuel tanks and expanded cargo holds. A normal Revenant is by far the worst logistics ship in the game for a normal fleet, but with s-mods and as part of a phase fleet they turn into a great asset. They'll help offset the sensor profile of even a capital class ship, like a Distraction Radiant or an Atlas. S-modded efficiency overhaul is a must for the Revenant, though, they'll absolutely eat through your supplies on the campaign layer if you have multiple of them.
