Fun fact: planets with ruins will always have satellites orbiting around them. They can be really hard to spot sometimes, but if the planet has space junk around it, there's salvage to be had.
And the amount of satellites orbiting is proportional to how extensive the ruins are. If the planet's gone full-on Kessler syndrome, you are probably looking at extensive or even vast ruins!

A little tip: if you're hunting down a bounty, whenever you jump into a system, if you're in the right system, it'll change the system description from "a red dwarf/supergiant/whatever primary star" to the name of the system you're in

Imagine being an AI fortress floating in space, knowing that there is a wave of seemingly "ghost" ships, and then out of nowhere a giant fucking stick full of hammerheads manifest's itself out of thin air and melts you into a liquid.
Next thing you know, you were not actually melted into a liquid as you thought because you woke up and is overseeing the farming on some stupid planet!

If you wanted to play with phase ships I would recommend playing with Archeon Order, it adds quite a lot of phase ships, and it revamps the combat quite a bit.
I might have to check that out.

It's why late game when you fly your paragons it might just straight out murder you when a fleet of frigates will take care of it with ease
While I like really cool strong ships from mods, I can't deny I love it when modders add in ships exclusively to be shit.

And most of the early game phase ships fall under that category lmao.

You take some super high grade expert technology and try to cram it into a low tech pile of crap ship hull that it's really not meant to go into.
So of course all the early ones are shit since that tech was never made for these types of ships.
The Cerus Asteroid ship is genuinely scary if you're flying anything that isn't at least as tanky as Dominator, AFF with that many guns is certainly not a joke.

I love phase ships... When I did a phase only run (current patch) I just ran around with the phase troopships raiding and conquering while completely ignoring the defenders since my sensor radius was smaller than a station (not the stations sensor profile, the actual station).
Once you manage to get [SUPER REDACTED] antimatter blasters on a Doom you can just run around deleting capital ships in seconds, it's great.
One big tip for the doom is that if you try to place a mine inside a ship it gets dropped a certain distance away- but that distance is smaller than the minimum range you can place a mine! So there's a sweet spot that lets you get a mine closer than you think you can. It got harder to hit and farther from the enemy with the phase rework, but it's still there.
Make a fleet of nothing but the troop transports and the tenders, never actually have a fight, but make millions smuggling, deploying satellites and stealing anything you feel like while remaining neutral to everyone.
Oh, and break the sensor range calculation while you're at it...
getting that sweet spot for the mines is a pain in the ass but when it works, by Ludd does it work. Also if you dont like AM blasters, or dont have the remnant guns, try 2 phase lances, 4 light needlers, and reapers. Its very strong, you absolutely melt shields and phase anchor makes it even better.
@@selectionn I used to run that build. I also ran antimatter blasters, ion builds, etc. They all used to be great, issue is that the phase rework took away a lot of the Doom's mobility. You can't just dive in and get a kill as often. You still *can*, it's just that with the close-range builds you spend a lot of time not doing damage.
Missile Doom has the burst damage, but it has it at range. Since the Doom has been turned into, essentially, a glass cannon brawler (if you tryhard the fit) missile Doom just fits the game the best.
Though obviously the best doom is those antimatter blaster missiles you get from Omega. I've seen a video of an AI Doom with those soloing a fleet, they're broken as hell on phase ships.
@@derkylos They fixed it, phase ships no longer have negative sensor range. But yeah, I ran something like 15 phase transports and stole every nanoforge in the sector without having to fight once.
Another extremely enjoyable video. Your editing leaves in just enough fluff to feel "slow" or "relaxed" while still obviously keeping things moving and I really appreciate the balance you achieve
I can’t get the hang of piloting so sadly I haven’t even attempted being a phase pilot.
Honestly I treat the combat like the overall game, fleet management. At first it feels like herding cats but the AI is surprisingly reliable if your fleet comp and tactics are decent. At that point I feel like a Admiral in charge of a navy, rather than a single ship carrying every battle.
but you should give the piloting another try and get better, as a very skilled pilot can easily change the tide of the battle!
Same. The ai is pretty smort until it comes to dodging projectiles so that's enough for me
The dominator is so funny to Pilot as long as you practice a little with it, you do a little flanking while your fleet distracts the big ships and suddenly your behind the enemies flagship while he has his shields facing forward and youre armed with a shit ton of reapers
I'm rather basic at it myself. I just go with an SO Hammerhead + dual chain guns. Rail guns or dual auto cannon/machine guns for dealing with shields. Sabot, atropos or reaper in the two missile slots.
Currently having the time of my life with a couple of mods that adds some cheat like mechanics. One that adds unique versions of different ships and one that enables me to get to lvl 40 and get all the skills.
So currently using a uniquely designed SO hammerhead that has 3 assault chainguns and 4 dual auto cannons. It has 4 S-mods and I added a bunch of upgraded shields. I kill everything with it. Only been at it for a day so far, so haven't tested it against some of the better Capital ships yet.
@@alexgauss8452 I mean I'm pretty smort unless I'm about to dodge projectiles too. I finally got to properly trying out vanilla game and I'm pretty much winging it, not being sure which weapons are trash or not. Trying to go with numbers only was off putting me of the game so I decided to go with my gut instead and just travel, trade a bit, cons00m the lore and basically act like a hobo vacationing through space collecting garbage and selling drugs.

The best ship I almost always use is non pirate afflictor, as it has more OP. It can comfortably fit 3 antimatter blasters, phase anchor, expanded magazines, and max capacitors trickk is to have more than 4500 capacity.
With this build, you can usually shot 2 times with 1 activation of special ability.
Almost all frigates, destroyers and even some cruisers are one-shots too.
Phase anchor is crucial as it expands DPS a lot.

The lightening ability of the basic Shade frigate is really powerful even on it's own. Having a small fleet of just Shades with nothing but a single blaster is 1 of the easiest ways to dominate Statsector. Reinforcing that fleet with a single capital ship to put down larger ships faster just makes things laughably easy.
Ziggy with an escort of shades, afflictors, and maybe one Harbinger and Doom, will end the game yes. (Until you need to attack a station).
I'm in love with Afflictor. It's fast, it's great for support, it can whoosh out of any danger, it can solo even some capitals with AM/[VERY REDACTED] weapons.
The one and truly player-manned ship.
I feel like lots of people mistake phasing for invisibility; the enemy can see you the whole time - they just can't touch you.

Hey man. Thanks for making such great content. It’s really weird how much someone just playing a game recording it and posting it does for me.
Do bear in mind is that No Such Org mod as a phase cargo ship. Which is very good for stealth so smuggling into Hegemony or exploring redacted.
How to actually make this kinda run viable:
Nexalin Shade Start = Obvious
Put Fuel and Cargo Hold on ur first shade.
Do explo contracts and expand ur shade fleet.
Get a revenant as fast as possible = random spawn (i got a double s mod wreckage once) or the 1 mil smuggler ship trader in a random bar event.
Get more phase ships = no revenant use shades as cargo fuel, they have pretty good holds thanks to them being scout ships.
Get the academy flagship, get officers with system expertise and shield modulation for ur compat ships.
etc.
Did this kinda run a bunch, its a fun challenge when ur getting bored.
The game is easy to cheese.

I love my phase fleet. Can get in and out of all but the most heavily guarded worlds without anyone knowin I'm there. I'm a ghost. A drug smuggling, system destabilizing ghost.
You reinvigorate my desire to play starsector
My favourite vanilla phase ship to fly (except Ziggurat because that one is obvious) is Harbinger with safety overrides. It has HORRIBLE peak performance degradation, seeing how it's a phase ship with SO, but it doesn't matter. Arm that boy with 3 Heavy Blasters and 2 Reapers in case you go against a big boy, and for the 3 or so minutes you can fly that thing you will absolutely rip through everything, even some capital ships if you so choose!
Just fly through the ship, pop the Quantum Disruptor, shoot the engine with Heavy Blasters to cause a flameout almost immediately, and then enjoy shooting a defenseless target in the rear. Do that a couple of times and before your peak performance timer runs out on you, you've already achieved two important things: You spent 20 OP to kill double or triple that amount on the enemy side and in the process caused one hell of a distraction for your main frontline. Talk about value.
And then there's Ziggurat... I don't even know what to say about that ship other than that it feels like you're cheating when you play it. But I don't care because flying it is SO MUCH FUN!

tl;dr and possible redundancy incoming.
Modded faction gimmicks aside, phase ships are generally "meant" to be support - the Shade's good at zapping fighters and missiles with the EMP, Afflictors can increase the amount of damage a ship takes, as Rarr showed, the Revenant is an expensive but effective haul-all for smugglers, and Harbingers are *anti-phase ship phase ships* since their system can shut down a ship for a second and drag it back into real space. They can distract, but they can't really take a hit, and beam-heavy compositions cause trouble for them in a way that, ironically, normal high-tech ships can basically laugh off. Seriously, aiming one or two Tactical Lasers at an AI-controlled phase frigate will make it freak out, and a High Intensity Laser is the Doom's worst nightmare, despite the fact that a friggin' OMEN can turn on its shield and tank the beam.
The Doom is the closest thing to a straight fighter that phase ships have, mostly because it isn't fast enough to flank things. Even then it's about hit-and-run, along with spamming Mine Strike. Some people claim that the Doom is weak to fighters due to a lack of effective point defense, but fighter wings are generally clustered together and follow a predictable vector on approach. Few things are able to provoke that particular brand of strangled, sadistic laughter from me quite like seeing a Warthog faceplant into an explosive twice its size that wasn't there a second prior.
As a general rule, if you don't know what to put on a phase ship, just add Antimatter Blasters or Reaper torpedoes and max out the flux capacity. Time dilation when phased means weapons reload faster, and more capacity means it can phase longer, and if you're building a phase ship to be a slugger you're doing it wrong.
Personally, after seeing a hybrid ship from Machina Void I wouldn't mind a normal shield ship with temporary phasing as a ship system to get out of trouble. Either that or a frigate-sized baby harness connected to a Fullerene Spool on the top of the fleet carrier, so whenever I get into trouble or too far ahead of everyone else the officer can just smack a button and reel me in.
The Anarakis Reparations Society mod has a quest that leads you to an agile hybrid "shields and phase-as-a-system" cruiser you describe, it also has some unique guns, but most of the ship's weaponry is in small energy mounts, so it may be lacking in firepower
@@waywander9618 Oh yeah, I remember that one! Yeah, all the tiny instances of damage aren't superb, but massed fire from ten or fifteen small energy mounts isn't what I'd call "lacking in firepower."

If you want to experience real pain I recommend the "Adjusted Sector"-mod. Most of the time I go with around 500 star systems.
I guess you would never run out of places to explore, but man that must take so much fuel to get around.

imo the beam setup on phase ships is kinda crap. aside form the phase lances neither the tactical lasers or the combat lasers can utilize phasing. the whole point when making a loadout for a phase ship is to put guns on it that do big damage but have cooldowns and high flux, since soft flux dissipates in phase and since time is sped up the cooldown is reduced. regular heavy blasters of just a bunch of lances and antimatter blasters are the best bet

If you want a really OP phase ship, get the Sylphon RnD mod and get the Rakia phase cruiser. Comes with two built-in missile spam pods and a giant EMP cannon. It also moves crazy fast while phase'd. No more slowly working your way towards the enemy, you'll zip right past them.

I did a full phase fleet and loved it so much, also I did awesome with it.
B4 this, I was playing Starsector like an RTS game. I never personally piloted my own ship and just used autopilot to fight. I gotten quite far back then without using phase ships since the AI back then was shit at using them. so I just trusted the AI & falsely assumed that phase ships were expensive garbage. But then this vid came around and showed my cheeks the potential of sneaking up a bastard's arse to inject my payload is not only possible but also fun as heck. So now, I don't use autopilot no more and took control over my payload. Hopefully this translate to real life, unlikely as that may be.

nexerelin i believe, it shows up against a particularly dangerous enemy (like the nexus at 4 stars) or certain special enemies (like certain aggressive corn chips)

I wont lie, I loved phase ships as an idea, and wanted more of them. But the NSO I think does the most heavy handed solution in the form of taking all the ships you want to sorta bad out your fleet, and slapping phase on them.
It *IS* better than just filling your fleets with gremlins, so, it's the lesser of two evils. I do with the devs would broaden the phse ship category though, I *really* like the idea of playing a 'stealth' fleet that hits as hard as it hides, and that's just not possible without significant investment into giving ships... i think it's shielded flux drives the hull mod is called? It's mostly garbo, but, it lowers the presence of your ship by 15 or something, which is nice.
I tried Spindle's phase ships not too long ago and I had quite a bit of fun tbh
I forget if it’s No Such Org, United Pamed, or Tri-Tech Special circumstances but modders have also made a phase Paragon.
I would honestly love a full modded playthrough
