Martin's blues influence is one of my favorite elements of the later Mode era material, and this is no more apparent than on the "Dream On" guitar hook, as presented here in fine fashion. This is my first time hearing the expression "bog standard". I had to look it up... "Bog standard" is an informal British English term that means something is ordinary, average, or unexceptional. This hairstyle is particularly flattering on you, Seph. 👍

I knew you couldn't stay away from DM for too long. I actually came from Australia to see this tour in London, Manchester, and Paris (where this footage was filmed). To be honest, not one of my favourite tours of theirs; Devotional was SO MUCH better. It was the first full tour though since Devotional and it was good to see the band finally back on stage where they deserved to be.
I told myself I'd cool it on the comments, but I can't. Help! MYSELF!!! Those things on Martin's shirt are feathers. That's right, feathers. I saw this tour at an outdoor venue in Houston, TX. It was the last time I felt really excited (no pun intended) as I realized in future tours they were gonna play the same songs over and over again, almost completely ignoring their early career. But this was a great show, the backdrop videos were cool, the extra musicians hadn't become annoying yet. Speaking of Martin's guitar, for the 1990 Violator Tour, he played two solos with just him and his acoustic. I wish he'd do that again instead of having Peter play piano.
I know people complain about Dave’s voice in this tour and call it the worst of all tours. It could be true if Exotic tour didn’t exist. I’m serious, listen to A question of time from 1994: he doesn’t sing, just screaming.
A good tour, quiet good setlist, well filmed (I was there the first night). But Dave's voice is not great (perhaps the worst of all DM tours) and the sound mix is not good (that strange impression of listening music in a box). Some tracks will please you but I think you could be disappointed by a lot of them. I dont know. I remember it was much more powerful in reality than this film.
Overall I like One Night in Paris but Dave's voice is weird in this one, I don't like it at all. You'll see what I mean, worst vocal of all tours. Live in Milan four years later is much much better!

With the two new live members, the classic songs begin to be given a new shape. This is still not very noticeable, even if the drummer Peter Gordeno is already over-drumming on many songs, it will get worse. The classic songs are given a new sound and new arrangements when performed live today, which means that the songs do not get their due - in my opinion. Dave is finding it harder and harder to sing the songs without over straining and Martin's voice is getting more and more vibrato. Dave's performance also becomes more and more feminized over the years and the intensity and serious coolness that previously characterized Depeche Mode's live performances turns more into a commercial gimmick where Dave looks like he's trying to make a pastiche of himself from the ancient days, roughly. Tendencies to all of this begin to take shape here, although the soundbank of several Depeche Mode classics remains roughly intact with the original here in 2001. Personally, I find it difficult to see Depeche Mode live today. The last time I went to see Depeche Mode live was in 2006 or 2007 on the Playing the angel tour. Then I hadn't seen them live since the Devotional tour in 1994. Before the show I was expecting about the same experience and performance in 2007 as in 1994 but it was nowhere near.

When Dave finally got an in-ear monitor for the Delta Machine tour in 2013 (and since), it made a world of difference!
