Omgosh!!! A lot of what you spoke reminded me of myself. My father passed away when I was 23yrs old and he was my everything. After that I left my home state and started moving around the states (from New York-Alaska) it was like my soul was searching for something. I would stay a place for a couple short years, and then I would start feeling like this is not what I'm looking for? I was in Alaska, and living with an African family that was my first time really being close to my roots. One day we were just hanging out in the house, and they were like "would you like to see some home videos of us in Africa" I got excited and was like yeah! Well as I watched the videos I forgot they said "Africa" I seen footage and asked "is that New York", lol? It was Africa, and it was like nothing I was ever shown in the media, or learned in school. It was beautiful, and that was the moment I knew I was going to Africa. I, like yourself married an African man, and had a child this year, and like yourself I gave birth in the U.S. My plan is to travel around the African Continent once the baby gets older. I love Africa my only regret is I didn't leave sooner. I love the many cultures, colors, village life, foods, beaches, the clothes, and the freedom of being black. Yes America is such a racist country, and I to have experience racism being black most of my life. Thank you for sharing and best of luck I love your vlogs...
I feel like you are me. I've been wanting to relocate for such a long time but finding a job abroad hasn't been easy. You are living my dream. What a blessing for you to be back home.
Akoben Renaissance when u move to Africa you need to be a pensioner, have money to start a business, or have a skill that's in demand. Regular jobs are hard to find or they don't pay well.
My uncle was the first black editor for NBC. So you use to work for that outfit too, cool. My move to West Africa is very raw, I had to map that out for myself. I still live in America part time. but I have residents there now. I do not need a visa to go. Everyone can do this move. Take small steps, step by step. Leah Tunkara
I got excited seeing you posted another video!!Thank u for your words!!Please feel free if your time allows to post more vids!!!!!Really is inspiring to all of us....more than you may know.....peace be to you and your beautiful family....God Bless...+

You are truly an amazing person for reaching out to help others who may be interested in trying something different. I don't know what else to say other than I'm so proud/ happy to see this.
I'm happy to see that you keep posting videos. I currently live in France and I plan to go live in America next summer but it's just a way for me to save money for my next step. I plan to end up on the african continent in a few years after going to Asia and it's great to see you keeping strong. I already binge watched all your videos and you're awesome!!
Sister I so feel you on not knowing anyone that was willing to just pack up and break camp from the US. I left in 2010 and have done better living in Germany than I have in the last 10 years before I left the US. I visit North Africa yearly and cannot wait to plan my next trip too. Great video sister. You are so inspirational and reminds me to keep doing what I am doing. Peace be unto you and yours.
missball404 That's cool sister. That's what I like to hear. I am currently getting prepared for a 1 week stay in North Germany to see how well I mesh with my new team. If all goes well, I am looking at a permanent position and will more than likely have to relocate from central Germany to Northern Germany.
I love you beautiful black sister! I get so excited when you post a video. This video was great and I love to that you unapolegetically African American. So am I. Totally Inspired! Blessings!
Can't thank you enough for the amazing job you are doing. You could have just moved to Namibia and kept quiet. But putting the word out, sharing your struggles, your personal life and much more for the world to watch with no ''subscription fees'', that will be your legacy. You are an inspiration for a new generation of African-Americans and even the African Diaspora. Keep it up. Thank you for sacrificing time you could have spent doing something else to work on these videos. God bless.
I was riding in a van to the airport and random conversation started up about Africa. I kept quiet and listened and wouldn't you know it, the passenger in the second row mentioned you!!!!!! I waited until we exited the van and got away from the group to discuss your videos but we were in agreement that you give the best information and insight about returning home. You are known and growing. keep it up.
wow came across your channel. So great to watch and hear. Thanks for expanding our horizons beyond just traveling abroad. So good to see that for some people it is not just possible but real to actually live abroad successfully. Both incredibly brave and inspirational. I'm a fan for life!
Great video. Thanks you for sharing your insight. My experience in regards to afro-centric consciousness was similar to your especially while in college and many of my friends, back then, did not want to here it and I was labeled too "black" fast forward almost twenty years later and now they stay posting black awareness messages on the internet. I find it very interesting. Everything you said in this video is very true and I applaud you for following your own path. I will definitely check out your site. Please keep the videos coming.
You are amazing, and I love your channel. It's very informative to someone who one days plans to move to Africa. Please upload more about your day to day life in Africa.
i did the exact opposite and moved to the us..i 100%% agree with u..i came from the west Indies..its Interesting because when i tell folks from my country i want to return they think im crazy..
I somehow came across your channel and i spent whole lot of time watching all your videos, your wedding, the trip to Kavango, lovely!! God bless you and your family. Your videos are soo enjoyable, Enjoy living in Namibia.
I am so glad you came back to TH-cam!!! Congratulations on your wedding and on the birth of your son! Such big life changes. I will be spending a year in Africa (beginning in Jan/Feb 2017), and so I've been reading, researching and watching all the videos I can. I've been to Ghana twice, and this time, I will be in southern Africa and east Africa (I haven't a specific itinerary yet, but will likely spend the time in South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Swaziland.) Your videos made me want to visit Namibia, and maybe I will, I do not know. I think I'll figure it out more as far as transportation logistics once I arrive. Thank you for your videos.
Thank you sissy for all that u have done. I'M moving to Namibia soon in fact 50 miles northeast of Windhoek. I found a ranch and I'm working on purchasing it. hope to meet you guys soon. how is the baby.
Girl, I am inspired. Thank you for your positive words of encouragement. And congratulations on your new marriage and beautiful baby. Im just at the point to trying to learn about the different countries and peoples on the African Continent. Currently, I'm taking interest in the Seychelle Islands off the Eastern Coast of Africa. Are you familiar with it?
I can definitely understand the struggle of corporate America, I've been fired for wearing a head wrap within a casually dressed environment (hoodies and leggings)... I try not to become extremely conscious, yet it's extremely difficult not to acknowledge or realize what is going around me.
Great video Afro sister, I've been watching your channel from day 1 & seen the transformations that took place in your life: moving to Namibia, your wedding, the birth of your cute lil boy, etc. You truly inspired me to think homeward to the Motherland & after having spent majority of my teenage years through to adulthood in Canada and the States building up equities I thought would make me happy/keeping up the "Joneses" in every aspect of modern living, I never felt more fulfilled than I do now spending ample time in Africa yearly. I've commenced my slow but steady exodus to back to Africa, especially with the likelihood of Mr Trump in charge of the Western world literally. Well, let's hope it's just a dream....remain blessed and don't starve us of the video blogs : )
I know this post is old but I just discovered your page. It’s so hard finding your tribe when your all nomadic. This is so me! I have lived in Jamaica but I’m now stuck in America until my teen son graduates and it’s sooo depressing. But I can relate to everything you said including the race topic.
really bro? come to cote d'ivoire. very good country. im from there and I will definitely help uot relocating there. I have lived in Long Beach California and Atlanta GA and before that in London UK. but I prefere Coted'ivoire for all the reasons the sister has raised in her video. my email is hmkhabib1@hotmail.com or through facebook: h marshall dynicks looking forward to meeting up with you showing you the way in Cote d'ivoire. By the way anyone interested, just contact me..you will be more than welcome. Cheers!!!
wow u remind me of the showtime documentary i saw some years back entitled blacks without borders. u inspire me definitely can see myself making the plunge. more videos please lol.
+michelle jenkins I love that documentary! I wish there was a sequel chronicling African Americans in a different country...possibly somewhere in West Africa this time.
Kristina Brown..I feel you sister. Being a black man or woman in the States, especially with the recent reminders, is not even worth it anymore to me. Definitely need a break for now with an African tour. An African move definitely will come later. I'm visiting the countries that I'm interested in moving too. South Africa, Namibia, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ghana. Egypt too, but just as a visitor. I hope you make your way there soon.
You said "like" like so many times lol! I do that a lot when explaining things to people. :-) Anyway, I'm super excited to have found your youtube channel. I have wanted to make the move to the continent for years. Everyone has called me crazy. Now, I'm super close to making the move...hopefully to Ghana. Your videos and website are giving me so much insight and hope. Especially since so many people [read Black people] doubt that I'll actually leave my life and move across the world. There are just so many things to consider. Every day I learn something that I've never thought about. It's scary but I'm so excited. I feel so disconnected from America. Africa is calling my name and I can't wait for the change...the good, the bad and the ugly. If there are any additional websites or information that could offer on relocating to Africa I would really appreciate that. Thank you for sharing your experience!
All the best brother! I'm South African but I'm currently doing my university study's in Turkey, and, here I met a lot of Ghanaians. I'm sure you'll like it there because the people are extremely awesome. Have a safe journey and I'd like to hear from you soon. Anyway, I can hook you up with some of my Ghanaian friend's who will help you adjust before you get there.
Hi Sis, you're a breath of fresh air in your perspectives of African womanhood. Nothing wrong being race conscious at best you're nota sellout. Africa is in you. You're a source of strength in perceptions. It is an honour to experience your sentiments of Africa and it's people. Welcome home. Just be who you are..... a real black womanhood. Greetings to your husband and baby son.
Buy African made ,,,support the local business, Eat healthy African foods. Learn and adopt the culture ,,,the American culture some of it is great but with some African culture you become more Cultured, Listen to African music read from African Authors ,,,African Americans it is your continent - take what is free and yours, the language, culture food and remember you are what you eat and what you think of yourself, I admire African Americans because you have been trough soo much and yet you smile . I really like your post lady you are an amazing person
I posted before I watched the video. I feel you so much. THANK YOU for this video! I have mentioned to a couple people that after spending the year in Africa, I may not come back. I am going to go to your website and read the interviews. Very inspirational; I can't thank you enough. It may not seem like a lot to you, but you speaking about your experiences and the moves that you had the courage to make are very helpful to someone like me who may possibly make that big move. If you are taking requests for videos, please consider talking about educational plans and possibilities for your child. I have a 3 year old (who will absolutely be traveling with me next year), and would really appreciate any information you have. That would be my primary concern in moving, is my daughter's academic possibilities. From the research I've done so far, it appears as if the schools that are closest to what I'm accustomed to would be unaffordable to me in most countries, as the tuitions are priced for the elite class. I do not know if this is true or not, and I am planning to try my best to find out more during my travels. Thank you
+Monica W I will add that topic to my list! I'm still learning the options myself as I didn't pay much attention before I became a parent ;) Although I did teach. But yes, basically in Namibia there are private schools (you have to pay tuition) and government (public) schools. Many foreigners enroll their kids in private schools and they're generally very good - I believe this is the case in most countries across the continent. Most of the government schools in Namibia have limited resources and are understaffed. The International School (in the capital) and St. Boniface (in the northern more rural part of the country) are two excellent private schools in Namibia that I can think of off the top of my head.
I want to thank you for your encouraging remarks... I looking to visit Ghana next summer and I will check out the banking system, housing , jobs etc.... and hopefully will return to live in Ghana shortly thereafter.. Your initial statement hit home-, like I have no one to identify with, I teach in a colleges and universities and feel like an outsider...
by the way, I have been numb for several years, not motivated, do not want to be in the States with the feeling that I do belong here; and won't succeed in employment.....I think of living in Africa everyday
thanks for sharing your experience and your blessup wedding..love the song aswell...n ive been on the same vibe n note. felt alone myself..but glad you see things how you see things. standing firm in your rightful way..salute sister. sidebar. refuse to get in that debate..lol..congrats to you n your husband.n..family..
I really love your website. By the way, I liked the article about Michelle in Tanzania. But I'm obviously biased since I'm originally from Tanzania. lol.
I am going to Ghana for the month of November 2016, staying with a woman through a contact of mine in the states..... will look or create employment- so I can return to Ghana to live
marty mart I have friends in the eastern region in an area called the Fiankra. It's land that has been put aside for repats. The land is free but you have to build your home.
We share a similar story I'm American-Guyanese living in Wisconsin.. so you already know wussup... to sum it up.. I'm definitely moving to Africa or to Guyana.. but this was even before the whole trump thig.. but I understand how ppl feel.
you are suuuuch an inspiration. its like you are saying everything I have felt and said. why wouldn't you want to live somewhere where everyone looks like you? its sooo empowerinempowering and liberating. I always knew I would live in afrika. I am trying to figure out which country to visit first....this summer I am thinjing about going to ghana or senegal. there's a guy, 'search for uhuru' ' that has videos saying, 'screw europe- travel to africa'. he also has one saying 'africa is safer than the hood or the trap'.
+cherishdeb Thank you and I will look for him! Was wondering if you were referring to Gazi Kodzo? Love his videos and I know he always ends them by saying 'Uhuru'!
OMG! I was the same as you when I was 25, and there were no friends that wanted to live abroad and were very happy just being in there job dealing with the racism and / or prejudices from whites as well as blacks.
What do you recommend as baby steps for families? My husband works for a corporation but still has 20 years left. I just cannot wait that long! We started a business to have more financial freedom so we can travel. All our children are under 3 (3 under3). Ps. I'm in DC too. So I feel you!
I would love to leave the United States I have been thinking about it but I think I could go to Africa on a vacation I've been thinking about Korea are Ireland I love your videos God bless you girl
So if I come there to visit will you help me find the really good spots to go to? I don't know anyone there, not as if I know you either. But you know what I mean😊😊😊.
My fear is that I dont encounter many friendly Africans while in the US so what awaits us on the Continent. Will it be a overhaul of the attitude I receive from them in the states.
Africans are from different countries dear, so not all Africans are the same and sometimes you have to understand the peoples culture for you to understand them especially an African
Zeeqtee Prn Well stated. I live here on the continent and they show me nothing but love and respect. I have a wife three daughters and a son here. So spot on with your comment.
Currently binge watching all of your videos and sharing your link to my family. I've always wanted to move to Africa. Just in need of advice if you can please reply. I am very interested in moving to Africa but I don't have a degree. I am an entrepreneur. Currently sell clothes online (Poshmark/EBay) and do deliveries with doordash. The last corporate job i had was working for JP Morgan Chase. Do you need a degree to teach English there? I just don't know where to be begin on moving there and making money there. I have so many questions. Please if you have any advice. Your way of thinking is exactly how i feel i just don't feel i belong here in America.
I'm interested in returning.. I just don't know about the logistics. I know it's best 2 go back with a business plan, but I'm sure how to make a living.. What type of skill sets are needed trades, college education.. If u could give me any insight it would be helpful
Hi there! An African American who lives in Kenya recently wrote this excellent article that I think you would find useful in terms of your questions: atlantablackstar.com/2015/07/26/so-you-want-to-move-to-africa-10-attractive-business-opportunities-for-black-people-in-the-diaspora/
Hi, fascinating video, how did you get your job at NBC and MSNBC? Do you have any tips for someone wanting to get into the television broadcasting world?
+Moses Jones Hi! I interned at the local NBC affiliate for 3 three semesters in college at Howard Univesity, so by the time I graduated I had a job offer. Although I ended up choosing to work somewhere else first in the boonies of Maryland... and subsequently returned to DC to work for the NBC News Washington Bureau as a Desk Assistant.

I have lived part time in Acapulco, and I got the travel bug at 20. I am 73 now, and have been all over the world. Not any place is perfect. Trump will never run me away. Please consider me your relative. You are correct!
Hello, I've watched your videos and are great. I have thought about moving to Africa. I'm thinking about a vacation to Africa, preferably Lagos Nigeria. What's the job market like? Housing? Education? Entrepreneurship opportunities like?
+edden charles Lagos is growing really fast! like the city is on a speed train but due to the population and the fact that virtually all Nigerians want to be there makes things difficult so its very fast-paced and rugged. When I mean rugged, I mean like "hustle". Lagos is not the right place to be If you're just coming to Nigeria for the first time.
edden charles Oh! I thought you were talking about relocation. Anyway, Seychelles and Madagascar are very nice places for vacation.Johannesburg and Cape town are also good options
Hi sister start a publication about African News which reports both US black lives and African black lives and everyone will be striked by similarities.

Thanks for the encouragement! I plan to, really need to make the time.
Making the "the leap" is actually less scary when u actually do it. Im am leaving in Rwanda after many many years and its GREAT so far!
Thank you! My family and I are moving. Your message is so timely. We are going against the grain and staying true to ourselves. ♡
So exciting, congrats and all the best!

Totally inspired
As an AA in NYC i was raised with the same cultural awareness. just telling someone you don't need an invite to Africa, research & show up.
I agree!

You should file a lawsuit bcs that's discrimination to get fired for a head wrap..
Thank you for making this video and sharing your story; very well done with a lot of good information.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you, considering moving for similar reasons.
Thank you and it's great that you're spending so much time on the continent! Will definitely work on getting more videos out faster :)
I know this post is old but I just discovered your page. It’s so hard finding your tribe when your all nomadic. This is so me! I have lived in Jamaica but I’m now stuck in America until my teen son graduates and it’s sooo depressing.
But I can relate to everything you said including the race topic.
This young woman is an huge encouragement.
Thanks so much, appreciate it! All the best!
Luv your videos. please post more often. I really enjoy the videos showing life in Namibia.
Thanks so much! Just getting hang of balancing parenthood with everything else :/ so pls pardon my delays!
Excellent video dear sister. I'm preparing to locating to Cote d'ivoire in 2018. I love Africa.
really bro? come to cote d'ivoire. very good country. im from there and I will definitely help uot relocating there.
I have lived in Long Beach California and Atlanta GA and before that in London UK. but I prefere Coted'ivoire for all the reasons the sister has raised in her video.
my email is hmkhabib1@hotmail.com or through facebook: h marshall dynicks
looking forward to meeting up with you showing you the way in Cote d'ivoire.
By the way anyone interested, just contact me..you will be more than welcome.
Cheers!!!
That's where i'm planning on relocation to in 2018.
wow u remind me of the showtime documentary i saw some years back entitled blacks without borders. u inspire me definitely can see myself making the plunge. more videos please lol.
+michelle jenkins I love that documentary! I wish there was a sequel chronicling African Americans in a different country...possibly somewhere in West Africa this time.
Thank you for these gems
You inspire me. I'm going to set some new goals for the next couple of years.
That's fantastic!
Love this channel, I feel the exact same way!! I really need a break from America and travel through Africa
I hear you! Thanks so much!
Anyway, I'm super excited to have found your youtube channel.
+AMoni LOL yea I've made a mental note to say 'like' and 'you know' less while filming vids :)
Hi sister glad to hear from you again again I'll be leaving for Ghana in June
Ghana sounds so amazing. I can't wait to finally be able to visit myself. Have a great time!
Lovely comment, thanks so much!
Being true to yourself is very important. Great choice sister.
So true!
Great Video
Thank you my sister
our lives are so similar. I lived in Washington DC in my twenties and lost my mother in 07. 30yrs in corporate America was tough.
+Monica W Thank you so much for the kind comments as well :-) New video will hopefully be posted in the next day or two!
I want to thank you for your encouraging remarks... I looking to visit Ghana next summer and I will check out the banking system, housing , jobs etc.... and hopefully will return to live in Ghana shortly thereafter.. Your initial statement hit home-, like I have no one to identify with, I teach in a colleges and universities and feel like an outsider...
so I appreciate listening to you and will continue to.
by the way, I have been numb for several years, not motivated, do not want to be in the States with the feeling that I do belong here; and won't succeed in employment.....I think of living in Africa everyday
Go ahead my sister teach that truth...
Great vid....i wanna du the same thing ive been to preu and belize...but never africa.....i must get there....
thanks for sharing your experience and your blessup wedding..love the song aswell...n ive been on the same vibe n note. felt alone myself..but glad you see things how you see things. standing firm in your rightful way..salute sister. sidebar. refuse to get in that debate..lol..congrats to you n your husband.n..family..

Absolutely inspiring. .. ...
Thanks so much :)
I can relate!!
I really love your website. By the way, I liked the article about Michelle in Tanzania. But I'm obviously biased since I'm originally from Tanzania. lol.
I am going to Ghana for the month of November 2016, staying with a woman through a contact of mine in the states..... will look or create employment- so I can return to Ghana to live
listening to you.... really inspired me- thank you
marty mart where in Ghana are you planning to move to?
I am in Pram Pram about an hour away from Accra.... looking to move closer to the city soon
marty mart I have friends in the eastern region in an area called the Fiankra.
I have many Zimbabwe pen pals. I read about Africa from A-Z. I love your videos, and the travel bug will bite you. Lol
you are suuuuch an inspiration. its like you are saying everything I have felt and said. why wouldn't you want to live somewhere where everyone looks like you? its sooo empowerinempowering and liberating.
Great video! Looking to learn and enjoy more from your experiences and perspectives on the future.
i c y u r so accepting of another culture and so open minded it in ur bajan (west indian) background also lots of luck
Awesome video
What do you recommend as baby steps for families? My husband works for a corporation but still has 20 years left. I just cannot wait that long! We started a business to have more financial freedom so we can travel. All our children are under 3 (3 under3). Ps. I'm in DC too. So I feel you!
What great faith!
Thank you!

Great video
am planning to relocate to Sierra leone any advice anyone from sierra leone.
Not the same people at all.
remember African American black some can he scary in the States- don't judge them all based on so few
Zeeqtee Prn Well stated. I live here on the continent and they show me nothing but love and respect. I have a wife three daughters and a son here. So spot on with your comment.
Zeeqtee Prn LOL, I hear you. They have been fed so many lie's to divide. So happy you got out and looked for yourself.. Big salute to you!
I can't wait to leave
Great vid
wonderlust....
:)
I like your videos...
I love your videos . Have you travelled to South Africa, Egypt or any other African countries on the continent. Pls share experiences!
Hi! No, not yet, but I share the experiences of other African Americans living across Africa on my blog, www.aainafrica.com Check it out :)
Are there any programs for teaching jobs for families? I have a husband and twin baby boys.
got my ticket,,,leaving for Ghana 10/31/16! for a month to open an bank acct- work my plan- and return home and move back for good
I'm interested in returning..

+AfroAmericaninAfrica Thanks for getting back to me, appreciate it
it's Ghana, Nigeria Cameroon or Namibia for us
I have lived part time in Acapulco, and I got the travel bug at 20.
So, where else would be a dutiable vacation spot? Mali?
edden charles Oh! I thought you were talking about relocation. Anyway, Seychelles and Madagascar are very nice places for vacation.Johannesburg and Cape town are also good options
Don't rule that out yet! But thank you for the info. Have you been to Mali?
edden charles Nah I've never been to Mali
Are you a Dual Citizen?
@harrybottom I've been looking all over. I buy in bulk. At the least 25 lbs at a time unrefined. Only on Amazon. 😔
.your husband is a lucky man. a.Beautiful, Intelligent and creative strong sister :)
thanks for video 😀 if trump wins I'm out can u do video on everything one needs to do to move to Namibia
u beautiful queen
Hi sister start a publication about African News which reports both US black lives and African black lives and everyone will be striked by similarities.
