Awesome video- I have a GT250 (1974) that I got at the HUGE auction/show in Carlisle Pa, for 500.00. I am making a little cafe out of her for my wife. Going through everything now and getting ready to install points and condensers. I was going to go with electronic ignition, but for now- just the old school way. Thanks for the great video! By the way, I subscribed and "liked"
Hey dude l have hit the "like and subscribe" for you.....thanks a million for taking the time to make the vid......really enjoyed your method and stories.....l watched your vid about a year ago when l was given a GT 185 for almost the same reasons as you.....l was going to sell it for work l had done but then fell in love with it. lve never been a motorcycle rider but now l have my license and all. l had to come back to your vid because stupid me for got how to set the ignition timing using a light......makes me feel good nothing nice ppl like you are out there......stay safe and well
Do you have a shop? Would you entertain getting a gt750 in proper running condition? Its in decent shape.. has 8k miles.. But has been sitting along time. Ive been told its best to take apart and change a bunch of seals to be safe.
The crank 750 seals are kind of a big deal. They fail because of age. I sent my crank out and talk about it in a different video. I lost my shop working on starting again out of TN
there are two plates that are behind the points that are slotted and you can adjust them. i adjusted them and ran my bike a few miles and holed my piston. what is the correct way to adjust these? i thought i set the timing correctly recently and it still wasn't running good. so i thought i'd try adjusting these teethed plates... oh well. all help is appreciated. i've got a 1972 t500. thank you
Interesting question. I don’t know for sure but they really are two different motorcycles. The gt 250 is closer to gt 185 than T series or Titans. I wouldn’t be surprised even if the 350 used the small ones
Im not an engineer, but i have heard that using a dti is not a good way to set timing because the spark plug hole is at an angle to the piston, so moving away from tdc is not a true measurement of actual distance moved.(i hope that makes sence)
Andrew Bradford yes it was a rattle can job in 2008. Original paint was a faded red (pink). Hope you get it going again. I once rode it , doubled up, Victorville to Mt. Whitney CA. It has been all over the country
Will, it no longer worked. Try Powerdynamo.biz its a better system runs about $450 USD. It uses hall sensors instead of gates. Here's a link of installing the latest on a Suzuki single: th-cam.com/video/ZIgbpnqYVGE/w-d-xo.html your part # would differ of course.
I think the timing, is not, right,, cause,, I have this,, gt also,, 125, but converted to double,, palser,, which cdi, also,, which is first,, top,, always on the,, left side,, just,, asking
Cool video with good info. Working on a 77 gt250. Also have a gt550 & a 70 titan 500

Wish you could pick up nice running GT’s for $1500 now. Most want over 2K in 2022.
In UK they are upwards of that.

Hey ,great video ,do you know why GT250 Has 2 different size points like big n small compared to older models like T500 ?

I own this bike!! Mine has the exact tank paint job with a spade on it. Can't be more than one of those right???
Yeah I saw it on Clist a little while ago. Looked like someone swapped the carbs since I owned it
Yes they did it's in need of a lot a lot of love it's a project right now, did you do the paint work

Well I love this paint job because no one else has it, I want to touch it up some after I get it going. Good to know it once ran for someone..
How much do you want for the electronic ignition system
