  • One of a sequence of videos going through the process of recommissioning a Suzuki GT 250 B
This is from the sequence of 'sorting out' the standard Mikuni carbs.

stick idea = genius. helped me sort my T250 carbs (although the needle adjustment/idle adjustment is different on the t250)

Glad it worked for you. Old school rules (and inexpensive; only cost two ice lolloes)

I used the ice block stick trick too on my 73 GT250.

That's really quite simple with the ice cream pop sticks! Would you then tighten down the nut on the stem after to lock it in? Thanks for your help Sir!

How do you get the oil side cover off? I've got the two top reverse screws out, is there a third?

Hi Paul. I have a GT250A and was wondering if you made a video for the carb settings adjustments? Or maybe a good video ref you know. I have the Haynes manual but strangely it’s not completely detailed and in the text they use terms for the screws who are not the same as the ones used in the carb diagrams..
PS: the manual says balancing should be done when the engine is warm (after the carb settings are adjusted individually) Not so easy to do as explained ;-)

Hi Audry, Haynes do seem to loose the plot at times.
Okay setting up carbs more an art than an exact science.
The way I would do it is, set each up seperatly and then tweak as a pair.
So take the plug cap off one cylinder start the bike and set up the carb, then repeat the process for the other carb.
With both plug caps back on start the bike and make any fine adjustments to the carbs, probably be 'ticking over' with too higher revs.
Then balance as per my video.
Try this link th-cam.com/video/8ax1tdBJCJ4/w-d-xo.html to see how to set up a two stroke carb.
Let me know how you get on.
      Paul

@@paulbell9025 hi Paul thx. I looked to that video and some others. Indeed Haynes used the good terms (pilote screw and start stop screw (idle screw)) in their text but not in the diagram. Now I understand the principles (we have “air” screws on our 2 stroke engines). Haynes mentions for the gt250 a factory setting for the air pilot screw of - 1 3/4 . But noting about the idle screw. What’s a good start ? -2 ? Also Haynes explains the tuning procedure in a incomplete way; they give the impression you have to tune both screws looking for a stable idle as you were doing all this at idle. This is not the case since the pilot screw as to be set while ones observes the engine behaviour during momentary gas opening (Rev up and rev down quality )

What about the air mixture screw?

Hi Kristian, as the title states this video is just about balancing / syncing the carbs.

Macdonalds wooden coffee ☕️ stirring sticks are the best.

Why don't you show the work you do, installing the carbs, taking off the airbox....etc?

Hi, well the carb installation as you probably are aware is super simple really and regarding the airbox fortunately I did not have to remove it, there was sufficient movement back and forth in situ. TBH I was quite surprised how easily things went back together
