My first game was in 1960. My Dad hated driving to NYC but somehow we made it to Yankee Stadium. I have no idea what the score was or who the Yankees were playing, I do remember like Replay Gamer my first glimpse of the field. Magical! Thanks for the game and video.
That is awesome! I've been able to get to quite a few stadiums, but I never made it to Yankee stadium. That first glimpse of the field was special. Thanks for sharing. :-)
If memory serves me right it was in August 1974 the Padres versus the Cardinals at Busch Memorial Stadium, now commonly referred to as Busch Stadium II. The way I remember it is that the game went into extra innings with Bake McBride hitting a game winning home run to win it for the Cardinals.
That's very cool. I'm assuming you were a Cardinals fan since you were in St. Louis... if so that would have been a fantastic first game! :-) Did Busch Stadium have Astroturf at that point yet?
@@TheReplayGamer Yes, big Cardinals fan. They did have astroturf by that point. I believe that it was originally installed in 1970. I was also fortunate enough to see a game in Riverfront in 1979 with many of the Big Red Machine still a part of the team. I believe they were playing the Padres and San Diego still had Gene Tenace and Rollie Fingers at the time. I may be in the minority, but I miss the multipurpose stadiums.
@@theequalizer9614 I miss the multipurpose stadiums only for the nostalgia factor. Lol. Do you remember the first game you saw on real grass and did it impress you as something better than Astro turf?
@@TheReplayGamer well, I've never liked astroturf myself. I've always thought the both baseball and football should be played outside and on grass. The reason that I miss the multipurpose stadiums is because so many professional football teams are going to domes since they can't justify the expense of a billion dollar facility for only 10 games a year. So that is an unusual reason for liking the multipurpose stadiums.
8/30/85 Pirates @ Riverfront. Reds won 1-0 on a walk-off double in the 9th (off Big Daddy Reuschel). Oester scored the winning run. I recall being deeply disappointed that Rose and Parker didn't put any runs on the board because I heard all about both from Dad all the way to the park that day. I had turned 11 earlier that summer.
I remember when he came back to Cincinnati, I went to a couple of games pretty shortly after that. I remember being in left center field when he stretched a single into a double and did his trademark slide into second...the crowd went crazy!! I was also at the "Dave Palone" game! :)
...a win at your first game is cool! I also remember having mixed feelings about the Reds getting Dave Parker. I had spent a lot of time not liking him because he was a Pirate! :-)
@@TheReplayGamer Good times. We moved away not long thereafter and I didn't see another game in person until 1990, but that turned out to be a very good year to watch Cincinnati baseball.
@@bigklu4756 Yeah it's funny you mentioned 1990 but I went into the army on October 1st of that year and being in basic training I wasn't able to watch any of that World Series… ouch!
My first game was in 1972 at Three Rivers Stadium, the year after the Pirates won the World Series. I don't remember the details, but if I bought a scorecard, I still have it somewhere. The giveaway was a commemorative World Series ring, which I still have. My hero Roberto Clemente's last year. That Pirates team may have been better than the 1971 team, but the Reds had something to say about that in the NLCS.

1964 or 1965. 7 or 8 years old. Crowley Field. Vs Pittsburgh Pirates. I remember Joe Nuxhall and Tommy Sisk and Wilbur Wood.
That's great! I was just a bit too young to see a game at Crosley, but I sure would have loved to. :-)
My first game was Riverfront stadium. Summer of 1970. I was 14 or 15 yrs old. The stadium was brand new. Still working on it accually.
Thanks for sharing. We have three Riverfronts and zero others! Lol. That would be exciting to have been there the first year it opened.
...you ever get bummed that you just missed Crosley Field? I would have loved to have seen a game there.
Yea.My dad went there a few times, but I was too young to take along.

this game is back on my table.
First game I was probably about 6 or 7
At Crosley field
Couldn't tell you who Reds played though I was too young
I would have LOVED to have seen a game at Crosley. Do you remember anything about it?
I remember going to Crosley
Being on the first base side
Watching a special pregame - show with local tv personalities playing
