Bought mine in 16, a left over 2015 model nobody wanted 'cause it was short and had no windows. When I saw it I knew I had to have it. I used it as a work truck until this year when then engine went after 160k of hard work use. Good luck trying to find new drive train parts for any Promaster. I bought a wrecker engine from CA and just installed. I retired this year and van is now totally empty, ready for its next life. Funny, my first van was a Trademan 200 I drove from L.I. to Houston at 18 in 1978. I love my stubby!
You might consider putting the porta potty into an ottoman on casters. The ottoman will hide it and provide a comfortable seat. From there it’s easy to be seated at the galley for preparing a meal, or to add a second person around a shared Lagoon table with the pax seat. Jarrod did something like this on one of his low roof GHOST builds. It makes the low roof living much easier on your neck.
That’s going to be the absolute best, perfect size. The most important part of the van is the bed, good nights sleep makes for a better tomorrow. So excited to see this come together 🎉❤
I like the Front Wheel Drive on the Maxi-Me. Great for winter weather. Nice one George! (What do you mean it won't fit in the garage? Build a bigger garage!)
That's the Funsize. I love to pull my Van up next to it. I have a 136" vertically challenged I have no problem standing up & can insulate, add a floor & ceiling & still be good. 👍
I absolutely LOVE this concept!! My thoughts/Ideas for the Maxi me: -Make it 4 weather suitable (suitable for EVERY customer out there. Full isolation, water tanks inside) -Make it as stealth as possible -Side manual awning (or however you spell it) -Fridge/freezer? (I would get rid of the dresser and put a fridge next to the bed side and a toilet that comes out to the passenger seat there. And countertop on the top) -Windows? Just one might be nice to wake up to, on the side door maybe
George, You've got my attention again! I can't wait to see the build-out This might be the ideal (affordable) way for me to start out on my vanlife adventures.
This is the very van I've wanted to convert for 8 years! Love. It. Definitely want a narrower bed to use space elsewhere. Cushions and panels under bed could either slide forward to make a double bed, or move to make couch: e.g. move one panel down for seat, move/tilt hinged panel to form backrest. Utilities can be in garage under bed/couch or wherever you think best. Presumably there would be room for a small folding gravel bike. Bliss! Cannot wait to see the Humblification!
The Super Stubby is the van I've been sketching out. Mine has a Murphy Bed/Wardrobe, L-shaped kitchen and wet bath. Perfect van for me at 5'3" solo traveler.
Been a while since I’ve commented. Always love how you box it out first. I’ve been looking at smaller rigs lately, and have noticed they’ve put sink next to bed. When doing dishes, water splashes. Ever thought of raisable splash guard that could be transformed into bed tray?
We have an RV conversion based on the 118" WB low roof Promaster. Love that it can park / maneuver anywhere. Fiberglass pop-up tent roof. We carry 2x17" sea kayaks on the roof. They are longer than the vehicle.
This is getting closer to what I want, however, I'd love to see HR build out a mid-roof Transit 130, which is only 18ft long but with 72" unfinished interior height. I think this would be an ideal setup for a taller solo traveler that wants a more maneuverable rig with a lower COG. Keep on innovating!
OMG I love it! That's exactly the size van I want. In the UK I think they're called Fiat Ducato. I'm going to check out your other videos now I'm hoping you've built the van out :)
Great size, great project. I vote for toilet to roll out from under bed. Also for me, a decent size refrigerator needs to be somewhere, and maybe space for a microwave. Then perfect.
Maxvan did a drop floor in one of their builds like the old classic trailers. I have never seen that done and it also serves as a shower pan. Now, they are an established handicap van builder, so floor cutting is not new to them. I was shocked to see this short Promaster chassis comes in at about $50k...wow!
THIS! Been waiting for something like this because as I traveled a bit in my 3500, I’ve realized that smaller would work great for me and I have been wondering what you could do with a 1500. Can’t wait to see it built out.
I've been wanting this van for 9 years. I'm the same height and it's mini--like us!--but we can stand up, sleep sideways, and have a kitchen and storage in a vehicle that fits easily into a parking spot! Thank you for encouraging George to convert one for you!
FINALLY! A low roof promaster! Someone else who gets it. I have one of these ( Citroen Relay L2H1 in the UK, same low body shell just 400mm longer) and yes we are 5ft4 but it really is the perfect van. We have siwvel cab seats and lagun table for dining, a 6ft couch along the drivers side that becomes 2 single beds, 4ft rear galley with closet opposite containing his n hers wardrobes and drawers. The closet door closes off the rear 4ft for private changing space and using the cassette toilet. And before building it, we watched Humbleroad and learned to cardboard it out to see if it would work (thanks George)
A very roomy layout while keeping it short and easy to park. Love it. Although I think roof should be higher since it does not fit into a garage anyway, why not stand up in it, eh? That garage is so roomy! Lots of space for toys or dog bed and water tanks. You could also have a wardrobe area there for clothes to hang on a pull out system from rear end. A slide out wardrobe, just to be different. That slide out tray with a hanging rack could be for wet suits, swim suits, sweaty clothes to dry out under the bed or with rear doors open for air. On the other side, a slide out tray for a single bike. Thanks George! Great video for a Sunday morning. It is raining lightly here in Nor California. First hint of Fall.
I can’t wait to see this build. So many ideas come to mind. 4-season use…absolutely. The smaller interior will be easier to heat and cool. Those of us that travel with pets will need climate control for them. The idea of a fridge instead of a dresser (previously mentioned) could be an option based on customer preference. I like what I see there George. Great foresight and very exciting future for this platform.
I friend recently sold his high top 118. For a daily driver, I really liked it. At 6’6” won’t be best overnighter so passed on it. Look forward to getting a 136 high top.
I have a 21 foot Promaster (I’m married to a traveler) and I like the sink by the door. Doubles as an outside shower. But this is nice. Very nice and it fits in a 20 foot container… to ship where you like. Hmmm
OMG George!!!!!! This is going to be awesome. I’m going to begin my search for this van to have you build,OR,,,,, maybe I’ll be able to figure out a way to get one of the vans you acquire🙏. This is going to be one of your best sellers I think.
Have officially flipped out! George! Loving the small but mighty series of can-dos. The HR stamp needs to be on a mid roof 118...or 136... pretty please.
I'm very excited to see this new addition to your series. So cool!! Something I've been wondering about is the evolution of your grey tank setup for the Promaster. I'm thinking you've changed up since the Vagabond and could use the insight from your experience. Thanks always for the fun and continual learning!
I've been full timing in a low roof Sprinter for almost a year and to anyone here looking for build ideas, I HIGHLY recommend maximizing your seating. Unless you're really short, hunching will kill your back. I recently decided to start my build over, so I ripped out the platform bed and started building a futon. I'm also going to have a bench seat along with the factory swivel chairs. Should be plenty of spots to park my butt! Also, I'm thinking about adding kneeling boards or some kind of fold out kneeling chair at the kitchen counter. Anything to prevent from hunching. Humble Road, maybe you have some ideas for that!
GEORGE💪❤: IMO the MAXI-ME will be prove to be one of your most successful products ever 👍. Most practical and versatile for MOST PEOPLE ❗ Can you share Approx. Entry Price ⁉
@@HumbleRoad 👍 Understood and totally makes sense !; Would not be surprised if "down the road" you have people requesting a MAXI-ME with the higher-roof variants as well... But "first things first..."😊 You are "kicking ass" GEORGE💪❤
If you raised that bed platform up a couple more feet you think a full-size dirt bike would fit under there in the garage area? That would make a great stealth dirt bike camper hauler!
I like the idea of the maxi-me. For some dumb reason, I like the low roof 118” WB Promaster. I just love the low stance euro versions of this van with the lower rear end stance. (They use smaller wheels and tires plus only single leaf rear spring.) now that we finally got the better looking front end and a new updated dash, we are cool. Do you have a slick roof configuration? I don’t like all the “stuff” RV guys love to install on the roof. I want a clean slick roof. (I bust out laughing when people talk about their “stealth” RV vans when they are loaded up with solar panels, a/c units, luggage racks, trunks, antennas and what all else they are putting up there on the roof and think they are fooling anybody while they are parking somewhere in ‘Stealth mode’. )
Great concept and great line up for entry level products. Just so people feel a little beyond basic needs, what about a decent projector and pulldown screen that people can attach a Roku or Amazon Fire Stick? They can use the data from their phones or have one of those satellite internet services to stream moviens. Due the length you may not have the room but given some people may walk standing in this van, would you consider a hidden or not fixed shower like the Story Teller vans? Maybe an outside shower? Either on the driver side like most RVs, or between the rear doors, with some kind of curtain.
The Promaster 118 is a great size for a daily driver. I look forward to your build. It was your innovative thinking and re-engineering how things are traditionally executed in a camper van that initially drew me to your channel. I challenge you to think deeply about the layout of this van. Unlike minivans, it doesn't require as much sacrifice. The PM 118 is big enough to have all features of its larger class B brethren, including for example, an inside shower.
I suppose an inside shower is possible, but that is not coming without a cost somewhere else in the van. The van game is a matter of priorities what is most important to you that’s the question.
I know this is a solo traveler, but could there be a way to set up a 2nd temporary bed for the occasional time you have a second "short" person along for a trip? That would be perfect.
Will follow this build closely, George. About time someone gets it that we all don't need the max space and the idea of getting out there means simplicity and nature, man, nature.
This is awesome. Would an elevator bed be an option instead of the top cabinet or put it below the bed? Also, what are your thoughts about adding a pop-top so that there is some standing height inside ?
This van is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm 5’0” , can sleep sideways, stand up in the van, and park anywhere! Please, please, please, how do I get in contact with you????
email me to start a discussion georgemauro@humbleroad.tv We are now building our first Maxi-Me! And yes, if you are 5'3" or less, you can stand up! 38" wide east/west bed over a garage. 4ft full galley, upright refrigerator, Trelino toilet,320A/hr lithium battery, maxxair fan, option for air conditioner. The 118 wheel base low roof Promaster is hard to find. If you find one, GRAB IT!
I’m excited to see this one as I’ve had my eye on the vehicle and often wondered what you could do with one. But I’m curious about the fact that you said it will not fit in a standard garage… is that because of the height or length?
Okay, kiddos, what were the keywords in today lesson? Frankly, it's as George always stresses... first OPTIONS (echo... Options, options...), K.I.S.S, QUALITY, LIVABILITY, AFFORDABILITY, EXPANDABILITY, finally were back to what? Repeat after George... OPTIONS (echo... Options, options...). Thanks, George. Keep on Truckin'
Given the brief list of parameters, I would suggest a class C of any size you think you can live with. You get a lot of bang for your buck with a class C just keep in mind they’re not built very well so you will have to maintain them, but you asked for affordable.
How about lifting the roof over the sink or stove area? I’ve seen some vans that have this option. This way there’s some place you can actually stand up when you’re 6 foot two. We’re talking about 2 to 3 feet wide, so people can put their pants on or cook their food. 🖖
I'm not a fan of cutting away too much of the roof, along with the support struts. Fan and air conditioner holes are one thing... Consider the 136 wheelbase high roof Promaster. It's the next logical step up.
@@HumbleRoad I’ve seen some of them that will close when you’re driving and you can open them when you’re cooking or standing still. Seen this in some of the versions of the Ford vans.
Or a nice opening skylight above sink/cooktop (when you tall people really want/need to stand). I’m only 5’. The height is already great. 😂. But, I love an opening skylight!
@@smoofollowingqalroundthewo206 I find most of the time people are sitting, but it’s nice to get up and stretch once in a while. Or when you’re getting dressed, or like you say cooking.
Get rid of the dresser and put a shower put a bump in the ceiling, biuld c style waterproof back wall two shower curtains on each side, that when pulled close overlap eachother from the top curved rods, it's a open plan. Cute for a couple with no kids.
I came to terms with the idea of me affording a home is not realistic ...somethinng stealthy like this is really my only hope I have to sell my mini coop and try to find a small van like this and just uber food delivery or something
If I was going too bother buying a full size van - I would get one that I could stand up in - NO Question... Otherwise just get a Transit Connect & do all you sh*t sitting down. Even thought most of my time is spent sitting or sleeping in my Mid Height Transit - It would take AAAALLL the pleasure out of cooking a great meal or making a great Pour-Over by having to crick my neck when doing those tasks. @@HumbleRoad & the reason why I posted was to emphatically point out to a NEWBEE that may say to him/her self - " I'm sure it will be fine - how annoying could it be - to have to CRICK my neck each & every time you want to do a task" (Well it will get OLD as f) & I posting to save a newbie from making that mistake - since a newbie doesn't have any past experience to go by. HR will you provide a safety helmet with each build - CUZ they'll need it-:)
@@LJ-jq8og If all you do is go camping & don't do any activities (bicycle Kayak etc) a Single person in a Short van may suffice. I know a couple who are in a short Sprinter (hi roof)- they mountain bike so they have a large enclosed bike carrier hanging off the hitch - It ends up making the rig longer than if they would have sprung for a mid-length van. So what's the point. I travel mainly solo in a Mid Length Mid height Transit (I'm 5'7" so it is Just high enough) with a couple mountain bikes on a slide under the bed - I would do it the same way if I had a re-do...
I'm really looking forward to this build. If I was shorter, I definitely would have built a very different van.
Always a thumbs up for the video 👍
This van is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm 5’0” , can sleep sideways, stand up in the van, and park anywhere! Please, please, please, how do I get in contact with you????

We are now building our first Maxi-Me!
The Low roof Promaster is too high for a standard garage
Hey George, did you ever take yur road trip yet?❤❤❤
No road trip for me! Busy. Building. Vans. Maybe this Spring and Summer!
Grab me a maxi me!!!!
Okay, kiddos, what were the keywords in today lesson? Frankly, it's as George always stresses... first OPTIONS (echo... Options, options...), K.I.S.S, QUALITY, LIVABILITY, AFFORDABILITY, EXPANDABILITY, finally were back to what? Repeat after George... OPTIONS (echo... Options, options...). Thanks, George. Keep on Truckin'
What is best for family of 4, that is affordable
@@HumbleRoad
I’ve seen some of them that will close when you’re driving and you can open them when you’re cooking or standing still. Seen this in some of the versions of the Ford vans.
Or a nice opening skylight above sink/cooktop (when you tall people really want/need to stand). I’m only 5’. The height is already great. 😂. But, I love an opening skylight!
@@smoofollowingqalroundthewo206
I find most of the time people are sitting, but it’s nice to get up and stretch once in a while. Or when you’re getting dressed, or like you say cooking.
Raised skylight down the center would give extra height 🙂
I’m not a fan of cutting away the majority of the van roof. The van was not designed for that
Get rid of the dresser and put a shower put a bump in the ceiling, biuld c style waterproof back wall two shower curtains on each side, that when pulled close overlap eachother from the top curved rods, it's a open plan. Cute for a couple with no kids.
Do they sell that model with a higher roof? Correct posture is important to me. I have back pain.
No, the 118 wheel base is available in the low roof only. Consider the 136 wheel base in a mid roof
😳 😵💫 Does my face say it all?
so the vehicles are taking over the tool room. that didn't take long
🤣
I came to terms with the idea of me affording a home is not realistic ...somethinng stealthy like this is really my only hope I have to sell my mini coop and try to find a small van like this and just uber food delivery or something
what is the length of the roof before it slants down in the front?
I’ll have to check on that
It’s today!?!?
Unless the bed is convertible into a couch, I don't need a wide bed. More storage and living area is the way I'm thinking.
The more you take away from that bed you’re also taking away from your garage
@@HumbleRoad garage?
@@rgruenhaus The space under a fixed bed is the garage
If I was going too bother buying a full size van - I would get one that I could stand up in - NO Question... Otherwise just get a Transit Connect & do all you sh*t sitting down.
Even thought most of my time is spent sitting or sleeping in my Mid Height Transit - It would take AAAALLL the pleasure out of cooking a great meal or making a great Pour-Over by having to crick my neck when doing those tasks. (all the time thinking what an IDIOT I was to save a few Buck$ by buying a lower Roof)
Non Thank U ( life is toooo short to do something that would get OLD pretty DAMN quick)
Like I said, it's not for everyone.
As a 6' 3" person I expect GEROGE💪❤ will consider doing higher-roof variants of the short-van too Terry... Its inevitable.😊
@@HumbleRoad & the reason why I posted was to emphatically point out to a NEWBEE that may say to him/her self -
" I'm sure it will be fine - how annoying could it be - to have to CRICK my neck each & every time you want to do a task" (Well it will get OLD as f)
& I posting to save a newbie from making that mistake - since a newbie doesn't have any past experience to go by.
Nuf Said👍
George I like all your van builds. Particularly the Mercedes Metris.
Would like your thoughts on the 2023 Ram Promaster extra high roof. Not sure what could be done with the extra height.
One thought is to raise the floor and provide storage and mechanicals underneath.
@@HumbleRoad Great idea. Maybe a drop down bed. I'm waiting to see if a RV manufacturer will use it. I haven't seen that many videos on it.
@humbleroad when will you show an actual finish of the maxi camper?
We haven’t started the Maxi me build yet. We’re bringing it in the shop in another week or so.
@@HumbleRoad great!! I'm so excited. Can't wait to see it😃
