I remember that our family owe one Tibetan mastiff back in years, that Time I used to feed him with Tibetan barley food( tsampa) n mixed with hot water. When I came back from school, he always greets me with his mighty paws on my chest. Very loyal n friendly with family members, once outsiders come around my house, he knew already n barks, sleep during day times n awake whole night to guard my house. I still missed him n my family. Had a giant Tibetan mastiff (bhote kukur) called Tiger. Never provided training or vaccines (did provide rabies vaccine though), but still was the best doggo ever. They are a really smart dog and understand everything, no need to oamoer too much or they will be too much proud and start disobeying.

There are some points in this video that are wrong. I feel the need to clarify these points.
    1. No a Tibetan Mastiff cannot live in an apartment, even with walks. They need to be on a property where they can perform their duties. In an apartment they would go through the walls and you would be evicted due to the barking and guarding.
    2. The Tibetan Mastiff's coat is care free, except for occasional brushing and bathing. You do not want to bath often due to the dense coat. Bathing them will cause hot spots and yeast infections. They will blow their coat in spring which is the best time to kept them bathed unless needed
    3. Hypothyroid is not a common problem due to their anotomy. Their are a high altitude K9, therefor they process differently whi h appears to be hypothyroidism without the typical environment they are accustomedto. They survive in harsher environments like cold, less food, and elevation.
    4. They are very stubborn and will do great at obedience class. When you get them home they will ignore all you trained in class. They do however need the socialization to become more tolerant of guest and other animals. A companion is highly recommended as they will not do well on their own. If you are serious of getting one please treat every guest the same everytime with a proper introduction. They will tolerate a small group of people they they learn to know. If you have children they would be great, but only with the direct family as outsiders may or may not be welcome after the introduction.
Tibetan Mastiffs are a very premative breed that have not been altered through the years. They do their jobs very well and should be viewed as a partner and not a master relationship as with typical k9's. They are also the most loyal breed I have ever had to share my time with. I would recommend one only if you are experienced and willing to put the time in for the healthy relationship.

The healthy Tibetan Mastiffs (just called Tibetan mastiff) cost about 2k-3k , the Chinese ones (generally very unhealthy) can cost up to 1M and are bigger.

@@truman5838 I have two Tibetan Mastiffs my eldest loves kids and is a gentle giant. My youngest who I took on age 7 months does not like strangers, will not allow any visitors except my Son, and after 3 months of slow careful interaction my Eldest Grandson and Girlfriend. My other younger Grandson age 13 who is living with me can not be in the same room as the dog because he is not ready to accept him yet. It is small short interactions until my dog does or doesn't accept him. it is on the dogs' terms always. My oldest dog loves all kids most adults and is very gentle with my youngest Grandaughter, he was a puppy when she was a baby. They are very good with their own kids as long as the kids show respect. No harm will come to any children in a TMs family.
