    Love this fragment: "The more whole we are as sexual beings, the more fulfilled we are as human beings." It is time to end the inquisition against our sexuality and against our existence as humans, body, mind and soul.

    Shame. Wow. The worst spiritual scar I have is from that.
    I drew a picture at the age of nine, of a man and woman, making simple love. I even drew wedding rings on their fingers because I'd realized that one day, I could marry a woman that loved me, and that we could hold each other and touch each other and kiss each other and make love to one another whenever we wanted. It was the most beautiful thing I could imagine.
    My mother found it and beat me with a belt.
    And every day of my life afterward, that shadow has been over my heart, my mind, my soul, and I don't know that I'll ever find a way past it alone.

      The nature of children is to assume their parents are all-knowing and all-just. No young child of my age when that occurred has the capacity to 'not take it personally'. That is the nature of childhood intrinsically. At the age of 12 or 13, yeah, that might be possible. At the age of nine, no. Parents are still seen as infallible, provided they are honorable parents.

    • @davidsirmons
      @davidsirmons 8 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Yep. as an adult I've grown to see that. My mother was raised in a small family just as closed and destructively reactive as she grew up to be. Took me many years to see it all. Honestly, I've wanted to do Imago Therapy regarding it for years, but it requires a person to be in love with another, to 're-activate' that innocent and 'soul-centered' place where such wounds reside. Maybe one day I'll find such an awakened and willing woman.

    • @honeytoes
      @honeytoes 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      David, I'm sorry to hear that your mother reacted in such a violent and shaming way. I hope you will do your own work on this to heal...you don't need someone else to do it. Imago is great but there are many other venues. A lot of great work being done on the new masculine with people like Destin Gerek and Robert Kandell. Check them out.

    • @davidsirmons
      @davidsirmons 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Individuals therapy makes the mistake of dredging up feelings, and trying to diminish the emotional 'voltage' around an event by bringing the person through that event again and again. To an extent, it does help. Still, without a person being there with that individual, whom they are in love with, and therefore touched to the same depth in their heart as the person who originally scarred them, who is willing and capable of going through the movements of healing with them, full healing cannot take place. One can only reach so much healing on their own, since were were not 'in love' with ourselves, and didn't wound ourselves. It was done by our original caretaker, whom we were in love with as an infant, and I vehemently believe this, both from experience and the learning.
      For me at this point it really doesn't matter any longer. Employment has eluded me despite my efforts for a year and a half, and my body is literally starting to fall apart. The hope required to pursue something as 'optional' and involved as emotional/spiritual therapy is beyond my reach. If you pray, I ask for that from you.

    We are already teaching boys that loosing their virginity is a big gain - a big fucking win. And that they are loosers if they don't make it there. There are many good men out there - I got brothers, male friends and loving boyfriend, BUT there are also those that pressure young girls into sex, so that they themselves can finally stop being virgins. My ex was one of those. He was so desperate to loose it, he didn't mind coercing me. And this has happened to multiple - exclusively female (though I know it can happen to guys as well) - friends of mine.
    Because it is already a big race and you dont want to be the last one to loose it.
    We are already celebrating men for having sex (when they are having it with women).
    We need to celebrate women, too and end the disgusting double standard that creates slut-shaming.
    And we also need to make it clear: If you don't feel ready, if you don't like it, if you want to wait - that is totally fine - take as much time as you need. Young people need to hear that, just as often as "go, do it, own it".

    • @TheLady2luv
      @TheLady2luv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So true. I'm so afraid for my younger cousins because I know this pressure will be on them. Just praying these double standards go with time.

    Pre-Vatican II Irish Catholic guilt and shame were always on tap at my house. Now that I am in a wheelchair, paralyzed, I truly hope there's another life after this one. I'm going to be a Brazilian soccer star given the chance.

    • @elexis3728
      @elexis3728 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      nodecafplz I was 19 when I broke my neck and ended up paralyzed. I loved having sex and especially liked to be on top. When I had my wreck I couldn't move anything but my head for a long time but slowly things started coming back. It totally bothered me to think that sex as I knew it would be doomed. I am now 37 and I still love having sex. Yes, some things are a little different but some things aren't. Please don't let your injury discourage your sex life because it is very important. I have found that my orgasms are better than before. I don't know if it's because we get wiser with age, the love of my husband or if it's because my nerves are all over the place good and bad. Maybe it's a little bit of all of it. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to stand up out of my chair and go put a real good hurtin on my husband like pre-accident but I've had to figure out different ways to do that. 😉

    • @nodecafplz
      @nodecafplz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your kindness. There's a laundry list of issues wayyyyy before the chair begins. Old school catholic parents are heavy on guilt and shame and it was on tap at my house. I live without hope and I don't look down because I'd be too upset to be any good to anyone if I were any more cognizant of my situation.

    Just bringing another facet to this discussion: We need to not forget that a lot of us feel safer in monogamous relationships, that STD's still exist--and that years of evolution and our Biology are skewed towards safety.
    It is a scientific fact that women tend to release more oxytocin during and after sex --which leads to pair bonding. So a series of casual relationships can work for some , but I believe, can be harmful for a great many others. I want to go into the details, because that can be a thesis in itself, but I think the biggest player in this equation is women really standing up for what they want and not deferring to another's pushing-- for example, when they engage in sex expecting love in return.
    We need to understand that this is usually not the way it is for most men.
    Man on the other hand need to go back to understanding women and llearning to control their urges and find out what the women want, before pushing their own agendas.
    We don't just fornicate like animals--Human sexuality begins in the mind and the heart. Good things come to those who wait, a good story is created by suspense and A rubber band snaps back to the extent that you pull with strongly.
    Mutual respect amongst the sexes and developing relationship -as well as courtship and some degree of sexual tension make for a dynamic and ever evolving sex life.

      Communication, that is the starting point of help. Communicate your feelings to your partner and be honest and open. If your partner is ready to listen and really cares for your well being, they would want to help the best they can, and not judge you. If they care for you, they would take your problems seriously and not shrug them off, shame you, or do nothing to help you.
      Get into the practice of communicating deeply, honestly and fully to your partner, in every way. If you two have a talk about how communication and being honest is very important for the relationship, things could get better. How can your partner know how you are feeling without this communication and honesty?
      I am lucky to have had an experience with someone who has deep communication and honesty about everything he does, and everything he is. I won't settle for non communicative people in my relationships now. If they are not honest and not communicating and not open, the relationships I have will break down, that is just the way it goes. The number one killer of relationships, personally, for me, is not communicating and being honest and open and transparent with each other.
      If your partner doesn't know you are unhappy, how can they be supportive of you and want to help you and help the relationship? People are not mind readers. That is why communication, transparency and honesty are so important for relationships.
      Just my thoughts on this. I personally feel, the problems you have would be helped by real communicative practices, I am not saying this is the solution for it all, but communication of your unhappiness is the first step to getting better, and it is a healthy practice to keep in your relationship. I know this is an old comment, but, I hope it helps.
