This movie was a modern love letter to some absolute classics. I’m really annoyed that the overall style of storytelling wasn’t understood. Really well directed film, shot in gorgeous locations with wonderful scenery and lighting with an engaging and beautiful cast.

I think it was to influence society (particularly men) on how to ask a woman properly to dinner. Like you said the theme is too old-fashioned for the modern audience so this part flies over many people's head. It is still a memorable scene because it is a tribute to the traditional ways when men used to be men and did as they pleased and did not care of the woman came with him to dinner or not. Now a days it is just Netflix and chill or Popeye's chicken and Dickin'
