What a sight that must have been indeed. Great info re the Ulster transport museum as well. I didn't know about that so definitely going on my sightseeing list 😊👍
It's mostly 160km/h track, but the timetable often has got quite a bit of margin built into it - so you may not see the full speed. It's being funded for 200km/h capable speeds for future-proofing, but no Irish trains can go that speed at the moment.
@@davidcorbett62 Yes the Dublin to Belfast line on the Irish side will get the same treatment. I see that Translink have plans for a new Belfast station. Irish Rail are tendering consultation on the new rolling stock to replace the Enterprise Fleet. They'll probably be multimodal and will have to support both 25KV AC and 1.5K DC. It might be the first InterCity line to be fully electrified. The Dublin Cork line probably needs both Dart + South West and the Cork Suburban rail from Mallow electrified first. I think that's 2045.

I agree, definitely a lack of options at Cork station right now as well as onboard.
Great vid, is there any tea/coffee served on trains in Ireland since covid? Be nice to know.
Cheers Michael, appreciate it.
As far as I know, not for intercity trains within the Republic. Nothing since COVID in terms of onboard service. Hope that changes soon.
I believe from Dublin to Belfast there actually is catering onboard however.
Thanks for the heads up. Typical this country.
@@michaelcoughlan992 more than welcome man! I know right 🙄! Seems no one wants to take on the catering contract to date. Thanks for watching
The 2-either-side seat config surprised me for fat-b'strd 1st Class travel tbh.
😁
People talking about how cheap 60€ is for the train I take this exact train and it cost me €0.65 with a child leap card 😂😂 I didn’t even realise this train had first class because it’s the same as economy
Honestly, a person coming from Ireland, Cork is a great place to stay
I second that opinion, lovely place 👍
@@gottawander can’t go wrong with the BIGGEST county in Ireland
Def better than the commuter!
😂
I have never been to Cork station but am told the line has been upgraded recently To allow for higher speeds. Am sure someone can tell me if it has been or not.
Was thinking of the huge steam engines built for the express trains the mighty 800 class of which only 3 where ever built 1939/40 for service on the Cork Dublin route. What a sight they must have bern in full flight. One is preserved in the Ulster Transport museum
@@jgcondron Thanks I knew I had read of it being upgraded somewhere.. just need the faster trains once it’s done
@@jgcondron Nods re the Enterprise should be the main target for a faster express train linking the two cities as the present average is around 60mph which is pitiful compared to other countries express services! One of the main problems in NI rail has been its always came second to roads when cash was given out and not helped by politicians who only respond when a bribe is attached. If you have a look at the closure of the “Derry Line” shows how criminal elements where used to influence its closure. In reality a joint approach to all major rail routes in Ireland should be the modus operandi for all future plans re the railways in Ireland. This should be totally devoid of all political goals and propaganda used for a so called inured Ireland
I enjoy train travel in Ireland
Me too 👍
Your great craic bud
Ah thanks man. Appreciate that and glad your enjoying the ole wanders along with me😁🙏
I didn’t realise we had first class coaches 🤷♀️
With no long distance rail trips in this country I can see why people would think there was no first class option 👍
Cool video, worth checking out the Enterprise if you haven't.
Cheers for the comment. Have been on the enterprise before years ago but not in 1st class which looks a lot nicer for that train type😁 I will have.to take another trip up north soon and try it out! Thanks.
This is a nice ride
Cheers for the comment Solomon, happy you enjoyed man 😊

This makes us realize even more that when designers go ultra modern and minimal. they lose all sense of luxury, whether it be hotel rooms or train cars. So to answer the question is First Class much different from Standard? - Not really, no.
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing. Indeed, the word luxury didn't come to mind during this train trip! 😊
Is there a station in the center of Dublin?
Hey Charles, Connolly Train Station would be more central than Heuston. And the Luas Metro line connects the two stations should you need to transfer between the two.
Im a regular on this train and tbh first class is not worth it, the standard class is much more cheaper and honestly doesnt have much difference compared to first class! love the trains tho - bargain for students/young adults!
Definitely understand your reasoning here. If I had to take this trip regularly, I would feel the same. Thanks for the input 💪

They’ve really tarted up Cork Station since 1994?
😁
Excellent upload. However, I did spot a few grammatical errors.
Cheers Damien for the kind words and yeah some errors will most likely find their way through on my vids despite the rather large amount of time before upload. My apologies for this and any future ones you will probably spot 😂

Why is it that Irish Railway Stations keep reminding me of London Marylebone Stn?...
Even down to the AMT coffee shop..🤣
Excellent train!
BTW while Km/h is to be expected
Please show mph
160km/h doesn't sound as impressive as 100mph
Just read in comment below re AMT and it's problems 😔
I wish their employees well
Thanks for the comment Eugene and for the tip, giving both km/h as well as mph is something I will do in future vids 👍

But i like the way you went about the 2 seats lovely video
No unbound catering is rediculous
Yeah, definitely not ideal. And it seems there is no date yet as when it will return.
Totally agree - the worst of the pandemic is well over , don’t see any reason for the catering outlets to still be closed.
Interesting vid by the way 👍
It is my understanding that the catering company went out of business, but they do appear to be failing to get another one I
Not first class I’m afraid, the loco has the first class carriage
Good video 1 class on 22000 is not much difrent than 2 class only one thing on first class you have table light that all if you be travel on MK4 you will see hows is difrent 1 class and 2class 👍🚅🍀👊
Great info, yeah I travelled standard class back to Cork on the MK4 the next day and was pretty underwhelmed so I can imagine 1st class would be noticeably different then for sure😊. One major difference I noted between the 22000 and the MK4 in general is that the 22000 was a much smoother experience. Far less jerky or bouncy.
@@gottawander in my opinion MK 4.is more comfortably than DMU 22000 i work with 22000 every day lol🚅have a good. Weekend 👍👊

@gottawander Yes, you're right they often do have a better ride quality. First class on the Mark 4s is due a refurbishment too. I saw tenders that hint this is in the pipeline.
Too bad you didn't get to ride on the CAF carriage sets. AFAIK the first class on that is much better, a proper 1st class offering with for example with 2+1 seating rather than the same 2+2 as with standard class like what you got in the ICR coaches. That kind of first class is pointless IMHO.
Valid points Sean, I agree. The 2+1 config would have been a lot better and more in line with what you would expect from first class. Thanks for watching and for reaching out 👍
Didn't know we had 1st class on our trains 🤔 probably the section with lights on the tables lol.... Which we often sit in 🤪

I used to sit in those cabins all the time when I was commuting to and from Carlow

Well, I definitely gave it a down vote that morning too 😂☕
Amt is no loss they're too grand to accept a 50 euro note they don't have their float sorted and then take it out on the customer hope it stays closed. I prefer Starbucks they take any money u give them.

Biggest load of robbery ever. My pet peve is Irish rail.
Thanks for sharing. Yeah the fares definitely seem to be significantly different at times because I checked them again after my trip and if I went the week after, the 1st class was nearly half the price. So I can understand if people can feel both ripped off and on the other side, feel they got a good deal at times.
Not at all impressed with the 2 X 2 1st class seating .
Although it was a pleasant trip, the seats did not have the wow factor for sure! 😊
It's not First Class. They label it Premier Class. It costs an extra 6.75 Euro; half the cost of the First Class upgrade.
TBH for €60 worth of petrol I could drive to Dublin have lunch drive home and still have two to three days worth of commuting, tell Greta to protest that.....
👍 thanks for sharing
Why???? Its ridiculously expensive
For regular train goers who have a good understanding of fare differeces, it may seem expensive alright 😊 cheers for the comment and opinion 👍
@@gottawander ok agreed
Low fares of 21.49 Euro each way are very good value.
It's a fairly boring journey to be honest. I've travelled on that train a thousand times.
It was a bit of a novelty for a tourist like me but I can see how for regular users like yourself that it would become boring! 👍
First class is right but no catering. How could you call this first class.
Yeah, fair comment. The MK4 which has the 2+1 seating plus onboard catering would have enhanced the experience for sure.
That was not a First Class journey. As a business traveller I require a minimum of a 2+1 seat formation and at-seat catering. This journey looked like a glorified local train. I will not be using it.
Aw shucks I’m sure they will be devastated 😂
There’s always one isn’t there and ur it
