I never forgot Hasek playing for Ottawa, it was the first year I started watching them. He didn't just leave the team, he was let go, he offered to play for less money and management sent him away
I actually remember Sundin in a Cannuck's jersey. I remember on Hockey Night in Canada he returned to Toronto and ended up getting the shootout winner. I watched that game and had mixed feelings, missing him and upset the Leafs lost, but I was so glad he got one final big moment of his career. He's easily one of the best players to never win a cup and you can argue that if it wasn't for the 2004-05 lockout, the Leafs would have had a chance that year. But that is only a "What if?" Nice video!
Every Leafs fan ever knows he played for them, I think it maybe harder to remember he played for quebec. Unless of course your a leafs fan because thats when Captain Clark got traded.
Imagine if Matt Sundin stayed one more year in Vancouver? The following year they head to the cup final. If he played on that roster would he have been able to win a cup before he retired? Would it change the narrative of the Sedins legacy? Would he be the difference of the nucks winning there first Stanley cup in there history? If only Sundin stayed one more year😔.
@@kenna7686 you knew!!!! I remember swearing up and down to my boss Bruins were winning the cup that year. How i knew....Bobby Loo one of the all time great goalies awesome personality but never had that killer instinct, when he gave up that tying goal in the olympics to send it to overtime you knew he wasnt clutch.
Theoren Fleury ended his career playing a season for the Belfast Giants in the British Hockey League. (You didn't say it had to be a random NHL team!!!)
Another two players who surprisingly played for the LA Kings were Milan Lucic and Ben Bishop. Lucic was traded by Boston to LA in 2015 where he stayed for one season before getting over payed by Edmonton. Bishop was traded to LA in 2017 by Tampa at the deadline (guessing Quick was hurt), but they missed the playoffs and Bishop left to get paid by Dallas.

There was this funny interview on the score when Chris Chelios got called up from the Chicago Wolves to play for the Thrashers and he was interviewed by comedian Gerry Dee and was asked how it felt to get the call up and play for the thrashers. The joke being he's got over 1000 games and was asked like he was a rookie. Chelios gave him a stern look and didn't know it was a joke
Great story about Hasek! He was Drafted in 1983 by the Black Hawks in 1983. But when he Finally could come over, he was stuck behind Belfour, who had a Rookie Season of the ages. ***But in Game 4, of the Stanley Cup Final in 1992, Keenan put Hasek in. Even though the Penguins were 1 period Away From Cup… Jagr who was from Czech, And knew about Hasek, was literally terrified and told teammates “We have to Win NOW! This guy is So good, they could Come Back!! Not Joking!!” Hasek put on a Display So Worth Watching that period!! Check it Out!! There’s a video of it!! Pens of Course, Won.
I’m ashamed to admit when I was still new to hockey, When Iggy was traded at that deadline to LA I described him as quote: “ some old veteran who is a depth player.” And I’ve never been more ashamed in my life
I actually remember Chris Chelios playing for the Thrashers. He made his debut against the Jackets and I remember he got into a race for the puck with Antoine Vermette (one of the fastest skaters I have seen live,) and it wasn't even close. lol
Older players often go to different teams, usually to teams with quite a few younger players on their roster. Most great players have a strong work ethic and skills they can pass on, that often influences younger guys.
I’m a penguins fan, but always loved the dominator and osgood. Paul Coffey (who played for the whalers at on point) was my favorite player of all time. So Detroit was my favorite non hometown team. So that cup he got was bitter sweet. I remember the Stanley cup in Chicago when he replaced the eagle when Pittsburgh won, thinking, this guy is going to be special.
How about Hasek being a Blackhawk, they had the best 1a 1b ever, had it not been for Belfour, Haseks career could have never led to Buffalo in the first place.
Hasek's tenure in Ottawa ended ugly....after he returned from the Olympics and said he needed time to heal that stretched forever, television cameras showed Hasek, in civilian clothes, standing just behind the Ottawa bench during the playoffs. It gave the impression to more than a few that Hasek wanted no part of playing again for Ottawa, healthy or not.
I was at the Leafs game when Sundin made his return to Toronto, I happened to buy those tickets BEFORE Sundin signed with Vancouver. The standing ovation he got was one I will never forget. I hate that we lost the game, but it was only fitting to have Sundin score the winner in the shootout.
I watched him play in Buffalo. Unfortunately, we couldn't score, that much. But it only took two or three goals, to win, at that time. Greatest goalie ever, not even arguable. P.S.: I used to love when he would use his head, to deflect the puck.
Very good stuff. Yeah, it always kind of hurts watching the greats in the twilight of their careers bouncing around like a ping-pong ball as little more than role players, but you have to give them credit for plugging away nonetheless. Jagr was a great example when he returned from the KHL; that guy bounced around all over the place but just kept going. Anyway, enjoy Tennessee. And beware the moonshine.😬😬😬
