How about Bryan Fogarty? Arguably the most talented player ever lived. That is what junior hockey coordinator said: "From the time he put skates on, he was better than everyone else. We had seen Wayne Gretzky. Wayne had to work at it. His game was outsmarting everybody else. Fogarty's game was outperforming everybody else. That's like comparing a Volkswagen to a Corvette." *So what have we learned? More than likely, if you are a forward, who puts up 6 goals and 10 points, in 6/7 games at the WJC, you'll be a flop at the next level. Same with 85% of power forwards. Boggles me, why teams still draft them soo high, while guys like Point, Gaudreau, Debrincat etc, get considered as steals, when its just lack of intelligence for draft choices. Size never copes for overall skill...it especially does not for a smaller player who has the drive to want it more.*
Another goalie you could argue to put on this list is Jack Campbell. I remember being disappointed every time he was in net against Canada in the WJC bc he seemed unbeatable. And while he's a solid backup now, the first 8 years after he was drafted consisted of 7 total NHL appearances
What the hell happened to Christian Dube? I remember him playing an NHL playoff game right after winning the Memorial Cup, and guy stood out. Only really good hockey players stand out when watching on tv. Then the guy disappeared. The hell?

This is why I don't pay much attention to either the World Juniors or the NHL draft. In the latter, it is crazy to watch everyone jump up and down after every selection as if they're already Hall of Famers. The media feed the senseless hype.

He's in a goalie logjam in Washington tho, they already have 2 outstanding young goalies in Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vancenek, plus they have veteran goalie Craig Anderson.
Maybe Seattle gives him a shot 👀
It took me a while to figure out an excellent performance in the World Juniors was all too often a total non starter in terms of transferring that to the NHL.
Nice vid!
Thanks Max!

As a Leafs fan ill never forget when we traded Rask away because Pogge...still bitter
Man, Zach Fucale. That’s a name I haven’t heard of in a while.
Fucale finally got his start only one but he made the most of it, big shutout
Fucale doesn't count he didn't fail his teams failed him.
I just hope that the Capitals can help him, because they have been producing amazing goalies lately.
Zach Fucale didn’t like his name being on this list, so he fixed the issue.
😂😂😂 As he should. The ppl on the channel have all been huge supporters or Fucale since the video came out so we're all glad hes doing well!!
Remember Pavel vorobiev?
The quality of this channel is inspiring for the amount of subscribers. I hope you get more subscribers in the future, really love the work.
Thanks sm man!! I’m currently working on a 40 min video set for tmrw ( If I can get my school work done ) It rly means a lot to read something like this! I hope u decide to stick around!
Can you do the opposite, like nhl stars who failed in the world juniors? Cause a lot of people are calling Byfield a bust just because of the world juniors and I want to see other nhl players who panned out after a bad juniors.
That’d be interesting
Is it too early to put Kaapo Kakko on this list or ?
What we’ve learned is that if a player gets 10 points in 7 games in the world junior, they will be a bust
That's like comparing a Volkswagen to a Corvette."
Disclaimer: I am not sure if Fogarty ever played at junior championship if that is the requirement for being included. If yes, I think he deserves a video or at least a mention later on.
I was gonna do a video on him as the biggest what if. But I can’t find any footage of him at all haha.
@@idontgivetkachuk There are some short footages of him when playing with Habs and Nordiques like this one th-cam.com/video/es03ZMaGp3c/w-d-xo.html, but unfortunately none from his junior years.
@@volodja99 omg! This is amazing thank you!!
Was that a young Marian Hossa I spotted in the Brendl clip?
I think it may have been Marcel. Pretty sure it was Marian tho!
The Pogge situation was so disappointing. He was way overhyped and coupled with the fact that everyone was bending over backwards for him didn't help. I felt bad for Pogge. It was alot of pressure on him, but also he was a victim of poor management and terrible training/development
Nic Petan: In his last three seasons with the Portland Winterhawks, 322 points in 188 games. At the 2015 World Juniors, 4 goals and 7 assists for 11 points, tied for the tournament lead with Sam Reinhart and some kid named Connor McDavid. I remember being thrilled when the Jets got him 43rd overall in the 2013 draft (he had 120 points in 71 games with Portland that year). A solid point per game guy first with the Manitoba Moose and now with the Toronto Marlies, but, for some reason, he can't seem to have any meaningful impact in the NHL. Still only 25 years old, but the writing seems to be on the wall. Check out his highlight reel from the 2015 World Juniors. Looked very promising: th-cam.com/video/EmMViaQyg1c/w-d-xo.html
Fucale getting a go with Caps was nice to see this season
I wish Pogge worked out. After being such a stud in the juniors he really got thrown under the bus.
Wasnt Matthew tkachuk picked 6th overall by the flames too?
Yup!
zach fucale is playing in the ahl with the hershey bears and just one the best goalie award
Oh wow! Good for him! Would love to see him make another NHL game
Glad no Alexandre Daigle, everyone calls him a bust but he didn't do to bad considering his early career points per game stats.
Didn't do bad? Worst 1st overall pick ever.
@@corymac1140 I'd go with Patrik Stefan or Nail Yakupov, Daigle wasn't a great #1 pick but his overall numbers were ok if he'd been picked later.
@@1bert719 dude, nobody was more hyped than Alexander Daigle going into his draft, FACT. He was suppose to be the next Mario Lemieux. Yakupov had 31 pts in 48 games his rookie year.
@@corymac1140 This is true, he's certainly not helped by the depth of the draft around him, with so many HOF talent makes him look worse. The guy can't help what people say about him though and he was pretty decent as a junior. I don't think he failed due to effort, he just wasn't as good as everyone (who should know hockey better than us) expected.
@@1bert719 true, all are very debatable, and all disappointed big time. I was actually surprised how long Daigle played. Stay safe buddy, and Go Leafs Go !!
*So what have we learned?
This didn't age well. Soup for Vezina.
This comment once again did not age well
What the hell happened to Christian Dube? I remember him playing an NHL playoff game right after winning the Memorial Cup, and guy stood out. Only really good hockey players stand out when watching on tv. Then the guy disappeared. The hell?
Last I heard he was playing in Germany, but that was years ago.
@@wiseguy3675 Thanks, Wiseguy. I would love to watch or read a piece examining what went wrong. Or maybe nothing went wrong. Who knows? The only thing I am fairly certain of is this guy was an exceptionally gifted hockey player. You know, one of the best no one has ever heard of.
This is why I don't pay much attention to either the World Juniors or the NHL draft. In the latter, it is crazy to watch everyone jump up and down after every selection as if they're already Hall of Famers. The media feed the senseless hype.
I think way too much pressure out on these young men. Very few can jump to NHL. I think smart path is stay in Junior as long as possible, then AHL to develop more etc then bring up and phase in slowly. But I’m not a GM so what do I know.
I would get Brendl in my nhl games even at 80 overall he would get 80 plus points a season. All talent no work ethic
I agree 💯, wasted talent.
Tkaczuk was my teams skating coach lol!
can you do a video on jack campbell. he has a pretty interesting backstory.
Rask being traded was the best thing for his career and Pogo as my dad called him was ruined from the word go with the Laughs in the earlier years
Justin Pogge spent his signing bonus on a new car for his mom. That's unselfish behaviour.
GOAT ‼️
Fucale broke an NHL record this season 😂
Pogge, Sparks, and Joseph Woll might be next
Man oh man!! pavel brendl !! Could skate like the wind compared to being possibly better then bure just didn't work out
In feel like Devon Levi will be the next on this list, people are over rating him, he's doing good cuz a stacked Canada team is playing in front of him.
Seems like everyone agrees he'll be next on this list haha!
Like andrei vasilevskiy isn't good because he has a good team in front of him oh wait, there’s problem in my sentence like there is with yours Levi and Vasy make there teams good
He definitely has a lot to live up to now
@@iamyou2303 are you seriously comparing the two? Lmao, Levi was a nobody before this tournament and Vasi was a 1st round pick and already established prospect when he played
Anyone else here after Fucale made his NHL debut with the Caps and shut the door?
I’m so happy for him!!
i remember the habs picking fucale and my dad being a former goalie was so hyped that our team picked him up i on the other hand didnt like the pick knowing the the halifax mooseheads were stacked as hell always thought he would be a bust guess i was right lol but he got me back with ryan mcdonagh and patches didnt like either player i wanted david perron in that draft i was way wrong there lmao 😂
Well Fucale finally did get a shot in the NHL and in his first start for the Caps, he got a shutout. Honestly good for him.
Yessir!!
How has Fucale not had a chance to showcase his skills? Seems to me he has showcased them and it’s not good enough to hang in the AHL. He’s a bust.
if Fucale was drafted to a different team it woulda been a different story imo
I can’t help but think that I’m watching kto
Oh thanks man!! KTO is my favorite TH-camr so that rly means a lot!! Hope u enjoyed!!
Actually Fucale could earn himself a spot with the caps for this season if he does well at training camp as the backups are still undecided and he’s here
I'd love to see him make it personally! But him being loaned back to the ECHL again is concerning.. I hope he can crack the team and finally get a chance in the NHL!
I’m hopeful for him also but we’ll see what happens
Naw Craig Anderson has that spot, if not (which would be quite shocking) then Phoenix coply could find a spot again
@@jadenippersiel912 Anderson needs to prove himself as he only has a pto
I hope Zegras doesn’t become a bust
Me too. He was so fun to watch!!
Angelo Esposito was not good. That's it. He was just not good.
No middlestat?
