I appreciate how your husband asks good questions to understand the method of harvesting rice in Uganda. He observes that it is different than in China but does not judge whether one way is better than another. This is such a wonderful lesson for us. It is so tempting to think that our way is best.

They did have a short break in China which I would say was a vacation but this is a 'homegoing' for Rose not really a holiday. I can remember my mother going back to her country after 20 years of not seeing her mother and siblings. I was 17 and it was an amazing experience but definitely not a vacation. I had to help my aunts with household chores and help feed the animals. Rose and her husband are indeed so hardworking and selfless. I hope in the future they can go on a real vacation and just relax and have fun

Rose, you could try to speak your mother tongue at home with your son. He's still young and he will catch up very quickly( if you haven't done so). I have female Chinese friend who marries a foreigner and lives abroad. She's the only Chinese in their rural community. she speaks Mandarin to her son at home when he was still a toddler. The son is 20 years now and speaks Mandarin quite well, well enough to communicate with her grandparents in China. To be able to speak another language is a massive asset which will connect him to his Uganda heritage in a deeper level. God bless

Hi Rose! Hi Mr. Wu Jianyun! Oh Rose! Such back breaking work! I remember my father always telling us kids, while growing up, how important it was to finish our whole bowl of rice, because of the labor intensive work it took to get that bowl of rice. I never understood, until I saw a rice field, on my first trip to Japan as an 11 year old. Watching you all work so hard together with your daddy, without any type of machinery to harvest the rice, AND deal with giant ants and leeches, WILL definitely make me appreciate any future bowls of rice even more. Continued prayers for you and mama Margaret, as you both continue down that path of healing. Your voice still sounds a bit hoarse, but you look so much better than you did in your last vlog, when you were really sick. I hope Anzai was okay from that ant bite. Blessings to you ALL.

This brings back memories of my father growing rice in Jamaica and me playing in the water by the river. Hard work but very rewarding. God bless you and your family and the harvest. Love jackfruit too. Very filling. Our lives are similar in every way. We are no different. We are all living and working in the same way no matter what part of the world we live in. Watching this brings back childhood memories. Im mixed race. My asian dad together wt my grandparents, great-antie & great-uncle use to work in the fields. Im watching from a distance. I dont like dirt or mud (till this day). Even the chicken coop🐓🐓🐓 was a no no for me, too much chicken poop😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 Im definately a city girl, born & raised. But also love the outdoors, not working in d fields though. Im a daddy's girl. Thk God he took me everywhere incl. d fields. I treasure the time spent wt my grannies.👵🏻👵🏻🧓🏻🧓🏻 I helped a few times sowing peanuts🥜, picking oranges🍊, bananas🍌. All kinds of fruit🍈🍉🥥. I loved sitting next to my grandpa milking the cows🐄🐄, brushing the horses🐎🐎. In my 20s-30s when I visited my dad & start craving for jackfruit or any fruit, he just went barefeet in the field to pick fruits. We dont have the fields anymore. Elderlies are no longer wt us. My dad & his 2 siblings are 2 old. The younger generation is spoilt 😂😂 or live abroad or in d city. My dad is 83. I treasure those memories, I miss my grannies, I miss their house in d countryside, I miss their cookings, miss their chat, miss sleeping next to my great grandmother. I was fortunate enough to know her. Great memories. Im extremely greatful for my paternal👵🏻🧓🏻 & maternal 👵🏾🧓🏾ancester's hard work, perceverance for giving us the younger generation a better life. ❤❤❤❤❤. I wish Rose & her fam a marvelous time. Lots of fond memories, especially for Anzai. Take lots of pictures💝💝💝💝💝

This brings back memories.. my mom used to bring us to the field with her when we were kids.. it's fun way to learn and appreciate things in life, small or big. I'm happy I know how to work in the fields and know how much work goes into it. I have big respect for our farmers. I am now a nurse but sometimes I miss the fields. 😊

A family that works together, build together. Even on vaca and not feeling 100, Rose & Wu went to the rice field to help grandpa harvest the rice. Whilst Anzai played with his little cousin. So sweet.
Whilst I love rice, I will be so frighten to venture into that rice field; for I am terrified of snakes, snails, bugs, frogs, toads, locust, and all things bugs or flying insects.
But love the family unity and Wu is such a pro, moving fast fast fast
But rose, you both get plenty of rest and stay hydrated.

Simple, beautiful, challenging, often hard work.
But always unity and cooperation among family and community.
It's the same globally.
The loneliness and isolation many of us feel in the West is unknown in village life.
I have fond memories of my childhood in a Jamaican village.
Anzai will always remember these memorable days in his maternal home...

Everyone here saying Anzai is a cry baby has not been bitten by that kind of ant. You hear ant and all your thinking is sugar ants. Get bitten by fire ants, black carpenter ants, red harvester ants or any of those painful sting ants and you'll understand. No matter your age you'll definitely understand 😅
I, too, wait for Rose’s ❤️🌹❤️videos. The longer the better. I’m smiling as I listen to 2 foreign languages and read the subtitles. I used to teach French. I oftentimes watch the videos twice. Once to read the subtitles and another to enjoy the action and landscapes.

@@enlightened1005 I know. They live in China and just visited. She learned his language & culture while living there. That's why I said, he should learn a word or two for when they visit his in laws. A lot of inter cultural couples make the effort though.

The way your husband gives things with two hands, I had noticed that before, it’s the same as in Africa. Respectful gesture which Europeans often don’t automatically understand and give things with one hand. Your husband is very very nice.

I really enjoyed this video watching Rose, Wu and Anzai working alongside the family. Wu learning the differences in techniques of rice harvesting, and maybe he will also realise what Rose went thru when she moved to China to be with him. More video's please x
Rose do you teach your son your mothertongue as well as English? It would be great for him to spend his summer holidays with your family to become fluent in those languages. Chinese is great for him but he also needs to converse more with your side of the family.

What a wholesome video. Thank you Rose, I learn a lot from you. Did not know rice is grown in Uganda. And how good for you and Wu J knowing how to do it. Anzai, I feel your pain! Those ants are huge, and their bites sting for quite some time afterwards. In Zimbabwe they are called Mashingi-shingi. And they stink after they bite!😂 The Jackfruit looked delicious. My friend here in South Africa has a tree that bears abundantly. We cook jam and make pickles from them. The huge seeds are good to roast. It is good to see how Anzai is enjoying himself. I was wondering if he maybe feels a little bit left out because of the language barrier. But hunting toads and riversnails and swinging high under a big tree surely does not need a language to have a great time. ❤❤❤
Heheh I didn't know we had jackfruit in Suthern Africa because we did not see them growng up. I had my first taste last week when I saw it in a supermarket in Toronto. That taste! So fresh. I want more. How are you my fellow Zimbo? Now I have to find out what mashingi shingi are in Ndebele lol. I dont know if we have them sincee our land is so dry/for ranching. PS my materrnal grandmother useed to grow rice (mupunga) but I never witneessed the process, just the product.
