I love hearing Aaron's oppinion on things, I think he has a really good grasp of where the car scene has been and is going! I do think he is like 5-10 years ahead of our time on this. We still have cars... for now, but at some point I think drifting will have to unfortunately go, somewhere in this direction.
He's just been around and doesn't participate in the ''hype'' because he's owned all the different cars that are now way over priced. Pretty much like anyone his and my age
Almost all great forms of racing end up with guidelines an rule books for safety purposes. So I say enjoy it while you can as is. An of course there will most likely be a modified class of the drift cars if that happens. Or outlaw 🤣
If we don't elect politicians that want to protect racing it will all die eventually. Already they tried to make it so you can not use any vehicle with a carb cert for racing or a carb cert engine. So you would have to build a tube chassis vehicle and cast your own engine block to race it
That is a flat plane crank old school Chevy motor and sounds great. Aaron has no idea how rare that motor actually is. Special camshaft and super rare crank. Do not take that engine apart unless you know what it is. Those parts are like hens teeth.
Def not a flat plane crank, just high reving and well balanced the headers are what give it that sound. And the cam probs just a normal mid lift - steep slope cam i just hope he plans on doing valve springs soon reving it that high all the time lmao
Aaron is awesome and this car sounds so GOOD!!! This is why I snagged a C6 Corvette right before COVID. Having a chassis that was designed for racing gives me so many options for building out whatever I want to do and it's great to see guys like Matt Field, Rob Parsons, Josiah over at FDF Fab etc etc who are making more and more engineered pieces for these cars.
He is onto something. I have long had the thought someone needs to make a kit car drift car and sell different fibre bodies. Cheaper designed right and easy to work on. Class racing but in drifting. Up to the driver then all cars equal
The closest idea I have seen is Nigel with his engineer to slide hilux. But that was a one off build. Imagine a factory making the same thing. S15 crossed jzx100 with hilux body, tube frame purpose built.
This appears to be an IMCA Mod or some sort of limited late model. For slightly more money you could find a full tube frame late model and probably take another 200lbs off the weight of this. Biggest thing would be getting a rear suspension geometry that could be setup symetrical and a chassis with minimal or no offset. Lots of variations out there, take someone versed in these cars if you want to find one. If you could find one setup for road coarse you would be gold but those are much rarer than dirt track setups. I've seen rolling IMCA chassis (no engine or trans) as cheap as $600 including the 9".
Ever since the game Daytona USA featured drifting throughout the series, I always wondered if it was possible to convert or drift a Stock Car, and wanted such a car for that. Turns out that it's possible to have an Oval Racing Drift Car, and this man's out here living my dream.

Yeah but i think a truly unlimited league should happen. Like prototypes for drifting. Group D; no rules. Edit: Maybe keep a similar tire/weight ratio so people cant run 305s on a 2200lb car.
I'm hopeful that Formula Drift will start having different classes of racing too. Pro-stock, a spec group, The current series, and an unlimited class is a good idea.
@@kylee.woyote7237 the thing is I was looking into the rules and all the suspension mounting points and stuff have to be factory too, implying the the full frame/chassis has to be stock at least in between and at those points.

Looks alot more like an old asphalt late model than a "Nascar". I also hate it when people call any oval track stock car a Nascar. The chassis setup on this, with the Chevelle front clip reminds me more of a short track car, like a dirt modified or a super stock, or an asphalt late model. And as far as I know Nascar has been running full tube chassis since the 80's, I mean I could be wrong but Nascar chassis have routinely been clipped anytime the frame gets damaged, but they only clip the front in front of the firewall, and the rear behind the cockpit. Never ever the center section, once something in the center section is bent they are junk, and having that stock front clip would make clipping this more difficult and complicated than if it were a full tube chassis, whether its square or round tubing.
@@joshjohnson707 it's probably some lower division like a late model because I find it hard to believe that the car that dale won his last championship with wasn't snatched up by some museum.

More than likely just a well built set of 180 degree headers, still neat, but common as dirt on circle track stuff
This car hasn't sniffed a nascar team and nascar hasn't even experimented with flat planes in a very long time
Stop clout chasing and go learn something
You’re advising a car builder not to disassemble a race engine unless he “knows what it is”, but you called it a “flat plane crank old school Chevy”
That thing is so cool. Aaron's perspective on things is always on the money
The sound of a pushrod V8 at the sort of RPMs you expect from a Ferrari is something truly magic.
