This looks so cool. Only wish I have is that the super fast timeout music didn't play, because it gives me anxiety. But my lowkey favorite part is totally the more modern Luigi color palette from SMBDX. I always hated turning into Fire Mario colors on the NES.
I'm more surprised that it was pulled off without special enhancements chips (such as the MMC3 or MMC5). Though if you notice in the level design, the clouds are on their own top rows in the levels, allowing for them to be parallaxed without scrolling the whole top of the level

Its not just 1-1, any overworld level that has all it's objects below a certain point does it. It work by creating an IRQ break. So the scroll value is made to be slower, but once the scanline hits that part of the screen, it is set to the normal speed so normal scrolling can happen.
no, original luigi is just white and green. You only see that as wrong because that's not his colors on later games. It's funny to view that Luigi as wrong but Mario's colors are totally different than modern day too lol.

It's not a pal version thing, Its on NES too. He probably just does it because he can? edit: if you are referring to 3-3, he wanted to break the blocks.
Mario can only run over gaps with running speed, not walking speed. And it takes time to get up to running speed. Most of the time he jumps over the gaps, it's because there isn't enough room for him to run long enough to build up speed, so he would die

It's amazing how he can wall clip in every hack.
The physics are usually the exact same between rom hacks, so yeah wall clips are easy in whatever rom hack you're playing

The timer is slower because it actually counts RL seconds and not Mushroom Kingdom Time Units, which is also the situation in New Super Luigi U.

If you want to play them on console, you need a cartridge called an everdrive, that allows you to load roms from an SD card.
