Dude this has literally the best game design out of all the hacks Not many soft locks, all pipes go somewhere intended You can't get stuck without the power up Just awesome
(14:18-14:34) That reminds me of the massive amounts of glitchy points you can get when stomping a lot of Wigglers without touching the ground in Super Mario World.
I can't believe how perfectly Bobomb Battlefield's music fits with SMB1's OST. It really does sound like it could've been written by Koji Kondo at the same time he was writing everything else.
I am super curious what would've happened if you'd kept going with that shell at 14:09 since it started impacting the score so significantly. (Also, I love seeing a hack where things are really put together well).
one of my favorite things about this series is kosmic discovering the mechanics of the hack in real time, like how he stomped that bullet bill underwater or the fast running speed.
Just want to appreciate the editor cutting the video in such a way that the song doesn't sound like it was cut and you don't notice it, except it always throws me off and i notice it every time lol
23:06 Who knew the NES had Blast Processing all along. Man if this game was available in the 90s, it woulda been one of my absolute most favorite on the system.
Hey! I don't know if you already tested this rom-hack, but I think its cool! It's a SMB Rom-Hack that makes stops the game when you don't do anything. But when you move, the game is moving at your same speed. The Rom-Hack is: "Super Mario Bros: Time and Place".
For anyone wondering, I'm pretty sure this is the background music in the hack: th-cam.com/video/rQAnfvhfOr0/w-d-xo.html VinylCheese makes some sick chiptune covers tbh.
The bomb mechanic looks really fun, the level desing also looks really fun to play, the music selection is amazing and those little touches like the coin-block under the pipe in the underground level to avoid a softlock or the modifications of powerup in underwater levels make this one of my favorite romhacks so far ^u^
You should go back and break the blocks above the vine and see what levels the vines take you to. There was a couple spots like 8-2 etc that had vines that you use to clip walls
1:05 i somehow didn't notice the music was off until bismuth pointed it out in the chat, and now it's gonna kill me too.. i can't believe you've done this :p
Kosmic: do you want to know how they program stomping koopa underwater and opening block underwater in the original super mario bros. The unused flying animation looks like swiming, except it allows opening block, and stomping on land enemies that are able to be stomp, and while flying you can't stomp on water enemies.
14:10 But there _are_ points. So far, up to this point, you only got 1 point for each coin and nothing else. For kicking the koopa, normally you'd get 100, 200, 400, 500, 800, 1000, 2000, 4000, 5000, 8000, and then 1ups for the rest, but for some reason you still got the 8000 and the first 1up, and none of the others.
What is funny that Blue Television Games just played this rom hack but never found the secret's but you take the time to try to uncover all the secret's.
Y'know, if this ROM-hacker wanted to, s/-he could change things up with Wario instead of Mario, and include a storyline about revenge of some sort, using this power-up. That could turn this into a terrorism-oriented gag. It would be dark and macabre, but it could be possibly kinda cool and funny... If it could be pulled off tastefully. IDK... That might be too adult-themed for the rom-hack community.
At 14:09 the shell glitch. Is that not similar to the item glitch in crash bandicoot where you bounce on the box like hundreds of times and it gives you one ups and all the crystals and everything?
@@redrover8096 no, there is more than 1 speedrun in existence lol. Simply saying "attempt another speedrun" can't imply 4:55.64, and saying beat/tie your own record almost implies you're specifically not talking about that one since it has not been a record for like 1.5 years lol
I just discovered the channel and before asking my question I want to make it clear that I'm not familiar with this community, so it may sound arrogant. Why does it seem like in most of there rom hacks, the creator altered the physic in a way that, to me at least, seems to make it way worse ? If the romhacks are based on original mario ROMs, surely they could just keep the jumping physics and enemy interactions. From what I can see in the video, the game looks like it handles a lot worse, and is a lot more more janky all around. Can anyone enlighten me ?

He did 28 bounces, here are the ones that did something noticable:
Bounce 10: 800 points
Bounce 11: 1up
Bounce 15: 100,000 points
Bounce 17: 500,000 points
Bounce 26: 12,000 points
Bounce 27: 100,000 points
I was going to comment I was disappointed about the lack of an 8k kick, but the 1-up kick is way cooler!
What do you mean by the 8K kick? Does the K stand for kicks, as in the ability to do 8 kicks?
@@DJIncendration it's K as in thousand. An 8,000 kick is a shell kick that gives you 8,000 score. I don't really know how or why but yeah
@@DJIncendration eight kilo-points

Yeah, and in a level as inviting as the first stage of NES Mario. Was pretty much the perfect introduction to a new generation of games in every way.
Sounds a bit like this cover - th-cam.com/video/rQAnfvhfOr0/w-d-xo.html

Horrifying hack when you remember the lore that Bowser turned a bunch of toads into brick blocks.
only the blocks that have powerups in them are the mushroom people
@@Kosmicd12 That's what I get for commenting as fast as I can and not fact-checking myself. XP
@@alexnobody1 it's not really your fault, everyone says misinformation about smb1 and smb2 haha
It's nice to watch Kosmic enjoy a hack from start to finish with almost never griping about some clear game design faux pas. Great job Nesdraug!

That NRG video went hard today already, then we got a banger RomHack Wednesday
that could accurately describe like half of the mario game franchise

I love the Bob-Omb battlefield music!
Unbelievably cool day for content. Rom hack Wednesday and the NRG release. Boom
21:52 I love it when it makes a remake of SMB All Stars remake of the original SMB lo l
You did awesome!
bob-omba
Well done. I was fearing it'd be more a Super Bomb Excavation World, but this is actually great.
Mario goin' pretty crazy with those Robert-ombs
Yay! Wednesday is here!
There's definitely a bit of Mario 64 speedrun parody energy going on in this one
Missed opportunity to call it "bombermario"

I want to see a SMB1 romhack where Mario just runs faster, and see how fast Kosmic can beat it
There's a hack called Smooth Mario Bros or something that removes all the level transitions and cutscenes. It's a good show.
Oh yeah Mario, straddle that orb.
That was a good hack.
that bobomb battlefield chip tune is cute
That was one sexy hack!

Super Mario Bros. but you can blow my mind!
