I don't know how to put it into words but when Dimash sings songs of his homeland there is an added dimension to his voice. His heart is full. When he speaks of Kazakhstan he gives full credit, thanks and admiration to the ancestors who through immense difficulty saved their language, culture and precious land.
Can we talk about how he was sitting cross-legged on a wooden piano bench through all of that? And just sitting there like it was the most relaxed thing. Watching Dimash is sublime. Thanks for another great reaction, John!
To sit cross legged is no big deal. But to sing in that position is not easy. Has to do with position of the diaphragm. Dimash however is built for it. He has a long torso and straight back. Still...its amazing.
I read a bit about the 1916 revolt against the Russian Tzar conscription of men on countries in this region. It is extremely sad. Many countries and men have been forced o fight for colonial powers. I'm sure these counties, including my own, all have their Samaltou. But no Dimash to sing it so we all make do.
There’s just something extra special when Dimash sings in his native tongue. The passion, the conviction and the love for his mother land is unspeakable. Amazing!
Hola John.
I love the Kazakh folk songs, especially this one. Dimash is untouchable as a vocalist. His relaxed performance shows how he absolutely loves what he does, especially when singing the folk songs of his beloved motherland. Thanks again for a great reaction 😊🙏💞
This was during COVID and he taped the song into the concert in Japan. He had to show it was authentic. He just shines when he sings songs from his country - such respect and love
I agree: This song is perfect! ❤ Somehow his Kazakh songs always make me cry. 😅 And at the same time, they give me the comfortable feeling, that if I could hear only him for the rest of my life, I‘d be ok. 😊❤
This was still during some of the COVID stuff so this was recorded live to be shown at the Tokyo Jazz festival in 2020. I get chills from head to toe every time he sings the first three notes no matter how many times I've seen this.
Aloha John and I always appreciate your reaction to Dimash! There is no one in the world that can do what Dimash has no problem doing, obviously! He is just that once in the universe type of mega-talent! He is definitely a God-given gift to the world!!!
One of my favourites. The instruments at the beginning reminding us of the sounds of the animals, wind through the trees, babbling streams etc in the mountains. It is very emotive and of course a sad tale of young people being conscripted and sent to Russia to fight (and generally die) in the first world war.
I love the ambiance created by the Qobyz before Dimash begins singing. One of my favourites. Truly so happy for you to see him again. Cheers from Canada!
I've already listed this music so many times, and I love it like if was the first time! Does someone do the same has Dimash does? He is amazing, perfect! 🙏💙🎶🎵♥️
This is the song that moves me the most, even more so than, Daybreak, Ikanaide or Marigolds. Thank you John for your reaction to this incredible performance.👍 🥰🥰Hugs from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦
Loved your reaction, John. This is one of many of Dimash’s beloved Kazakh songs. So heart breaking and full of emotions. The event of 1916 when young Kazakh soldiers were forced to fight a war far from home. Dimash is a very proud Kazakh and very passionate about their independence. In this video, he brought us into his studio to see and hear him sing so intimately. It’s so awesome.
Thank you for this reaction. I believe his family has instilled all the stories of his Kazakh heritage. He carries these stories in his heart when he sings songs from his homeland.
Dimash is like alittle Buddha here😊. Beautiful song in traditional style and so much emotion , one of my favourite performances ever. Thank you for always positive reaction ✌️❤️
Dimash, the unparalleled virtuoso of vocal prowess never phase to mesmerize audiences and any one of his performance defies all expectations and showcases his unmatched talent in a display that can only be described as legendary!!! Way to go Dimash!!! 😍😍😍
This is my all time favorite, I like the simplicity of it. Dimash just telling the story, every time I listen to this song it brings me on the top of the mountain looking at the valley, with flowing rivers , beautiful wild flowers , eagles soaring the blue sky.
Every time he performs this song it is amazing. I thought this one let’s you focus just on the instruments and Dimash’s delivery. As always I am happy to see your enjoyment. You always share so much love for music and positivity.

6:45 IKR! It's a common thing amongst dears that we absolutely ADORE this version of Samaltau! It's just SO RAW AND PERFECT like you put it! It chills me every time! 😩💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I also love the performance in the digital concert. Again, sitting, and the special effects added giving the effect of the turmoil of war. Wish Dimash sang this at concerts. Maybe it is too emotional as it is about young men being torn from their families to fight in a war in another land.
The kobyz at the beginning sets the scene for this Kazakh folk song, which is about the time when young men were called up to fortify their land during the first World War. The instrument, for me at least, calls up the howling of the wolves in the mountains and later, the eagles. The flute and rainstick recreate the wind and streams of that place. Dimash embodies the emotions of the young soldier who has been torn from home and family and all that he loves, finding himself bereft in a world he could never have imagined, directionless and alone. We should probably remember that it is Dimash who arranges almost all of his performances, so in addition to his stunning vocals, the instrumental arrangement is no doubt his work, too. It's a masterpiece like his performance of Ikanaide, also for the 2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival.
Esse Festival foi incrível! Música folck histórica Cazaque espetacular! Músicos incríveis com seus instrumentos tradicionais Cazaque! Dimash simplesmente extraordinário e apaixonante! Incrível! 👏🏻👏👏🏽👏🏾👏🏾👏🏼👏🏿❤️❤️🎶🎶🇧🇷🇧🇷

Hola John. Singing or praying? Both. So beautiful -
the kobyz is used to help penetrate into the deeper layers of human subconscious for meditating.
