We can thank the GREAT Kenn Wingle for his incredible expertise in re-energising these songs🙏🙏 . When I first heard this song in 1972 on the radio it sounded exactly like this. Over time and especially when the transfer of vinyl to CD took place, quality was lost in a lot of 70s songs. Salute Kenn.
Flat Feelings - Kenn does not have access to the master recordings - so they can be re-mastered by him. Though I wish he did have access to the masters so he can enhance them into a new separate recorded version along with his excellent input. But most of the time he just gets a good digital copy and then adds instruments - that he plays himself. There is more to it than that. There’s quite a story behind that steel guitar solo. They actually had two or three players come in and drop it into separate tracks until the final mix when they made the decision. Who did they pick? You’re hearing Red from Red Rhoads and the Detours. Country group that played the Palomino in North Hollywood for years. Even as far back as the days when Linda Ronstadt appeared there with her shoes off as The Stone Ponies!

An example would be the time I played a lead part on the electric guitar (which is supposed to be closed circuit) but the studio mike was still on so I heard these clicks behind the guitar notes and it ended up being a new guitar effect by accident!

I've been listening to this song off and on for almost 45 years and never did figure it out. Also, liked the handclaps near the end and the picture of an analog radio.
One other thing, they were a lot more conservative back then with language. In 1974 , I'm sure I heard "damn" or "hell" on TV, and it shocked me. I was 9 when this song came out, so I would've been around 11 in '74. Now there's no limit to what people say.

They're three hit wonders. This one peaked at #4 and they had two other hits. One peaked at #22 and the other at #23.
