Chuck Jackson was a familiar voice from my childhood. Along with Jackie Wilson, Major Lance, Ben E. King, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett,David Ruffin, Smoky Robinson, Joe Cocker, Tom Jones, Terry Reid, Steve Winwood, and Marvin Gaye.
I was lucky enough to meet Chuck Jackson a few years ago. A real gentleman, and one of the best nights of my life. He was without doubt the greatest singer ever born, and this is the greatest record ever made. R.I.P. Chuck you are missed so much.

Chuck is one of the first voices that I realize could make a women swoon when I was about 10 or eleven. I met him years ago while he was in town. Got his autograph. I sing his songs at karaoke these days. They still get reaction. This "Any Day" track was also used to record the song "Lover" by Tommy Hunt, before it was given to Chuck Jackson. Funny thing happened to me in 1991. I had been collecting them both since '84. I was walking along side a canal in Utrecht, when I saw this sign: 'Tommy Hunt performs, there and there'. I could not believe it. That Sunday, in a small cafe, with only 10 attendants, he was about to perform. I met him backstage; wonderful guy! Turned out that at that time he actually lived in Amsterdam. He was delighted that I knew all his old songs by heart and I got to ask him about Chuck and the old days too. Also about their competition of course. He really admired Chuck and wasn't envious. Absolute stunning performance btw. He is still alive (90 yrs old) and has been living in Skegness, UK, where a very nice landlady takes good care of him. The Northern Soul Scene is still very much alive there. Sadly Chuck Jackson passed a year ago; but I've got practical all of his recordings to enjoy and sing a long to; gotta love them High Ring Notes he did!

This is Classic New York Soul for you. I 'discovered' Chuck Jackson in 1984, when his Wand -catalogue was re-released through Kent Records, and I've been collecting his back-catalogue since. He grew up in the south and was so talented that he got a scholarship for the Music Academy. Though he often sounds a bit rough around the edges, he could sing anything from Soul to Opera. Many of his High Ring Notes are insane. A baritone singing way up in Tenor-territory. Up to 2013 his voice sounded just the way it did in the early 60's. Then, his wife passed, and he sadly stopped performing. To me, he is the greatest male-vocalist, ever. Even better than Ben E. King. R.I.P. the both. I'm glad you liked him to!
