    Hi,
    And I am pleased for you that you found a Mast and Mizen. It the main mast going to be a temporary one, with the walls being thinner than you might need, using it until you can find the correct thickness?
    I am not ofay (sorry on the spelling) with how you might fit it, but can you do one of two things, first use this mast and strengthen it so it will have the same strength, welding narrow strips to it which will allow you to get other measurement as the mast is raised, and I am assuming you have the outer dia the correct size, second, use this mast as a temporary one until you can find the correct wall thickness of a second one?

    • @SVSeeker
      @SVSeeker  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +mrbluenun We got what I wanted. The main is 5/16 wall, 16" diameter. Not much was gained by going to 3/8" wall.

    If you need to strip of the galvanizing from the pipe to elongate it, the best way is to brush on straight hydrochloric acid until it stops bubbling. It will strip it to a perfect clean surface and you can even mask the pipe of with painters tape to control the stripped area 100%. For a pipe that size you can properly do it in less than three minutes.
    I use this method for plumbers pipes I use as a cheap construction material for odd projects. Small pipes is easiest to just dip in a mason jar with acid and wait a few seconds for the bubbles to stop.
    Don't forget to clean with plenty water after you have stripped the galvanizing.

    Sorry, afterthoughts... You always want to use the same metals to mitigate galvanic corrosion. The DeadLights(?) being aluminum, you might use ferrules/ bushings/washers of zinc. On the other topic, maybe one of your fans know how to set up a crowd funding scenario. (I wouldn't know the first thing about it)..I think I remember seeing that you have 62k followers... that probably means 10 fold are watching your shenanigans. You are legit and I'm sure minions would donate at least 10 bucks... my two centavos..

    Anodic nobilities.....Hi again... Your show is better than Mad Men... Wanted to throw a few cents back in.. Being the "boat that the internet built". Building is easy..Deciding is labor intensive. An easy way to decide on dissimilar metals is easy. Use the least noble metal on screws and replaceable shit. Lesser Noble metals will corrode first. Pick what you would rather replace...Keep up the great work. You inspire me..

    Hello Doug, Check out a paint supply store or Grainger for 'radiator brushes' . They make painting odd angles much easier (like in behind angle iron). They come in 2 through 4 inches and 45 degree angles both vertical to the handle and horzontal that I know of. We used them on ships. Very useful but you never see them in box stores or even hardware stores. Doug

    Oh fuk... Just powder-coat the aluminum DeadLights! use Teflon washers and bushings. You need a few more exotic tools in that workshop of yours. Plus you could p coat the first 6 inches of the pilot house and use some sort of non conductive gasket between the aluminum and steel.

    So many things I love here. I don't want to sound trollish, and I absolutely love the bed if the truck, but I'm curious why the gooseneck ball is behind the axle. I know it wasn't your build, but if that trailer is loaded down, the front wheels of the truck will be up in the air. Again, not being a jackass, just curious. Also, this video is entirely too short.
