Thank you Derek very helpful video. This week I will service the same boiler. Now I need to make a 15 mm flat pipe for my vacuum. This is a great Idea 💡💡💡 Thanks
Top job mate 👏 another good lesson would be the filter that gives all sorts of high temperature problems when blocked , don't do many of these but I'm now a better service engineer, straight to get that kit ,thank you kindly sir 🤩
The cleaning with that brush is awkward. I've done it twice. I was surprised that this expert wasn't that sure if he finished or not cleaning with that brush. I thought he would know exactly how it is supposed to be done and I could learn from him. Anyway I am grateful for this video. Thank you.
Great Video Derek I have my first strip and clean of this Worcester model in a couple days, the coca cola trick as you said didn't do much I've heard from other engineers bicarbonate soda does a great job I will try on the baffles and see how it goes 👍
Thanks again for taking the time to do these videos! It would be good to see a strip service on some standard efficiency boilers, removing the fan & burner on the likes of worcester, ideal classic, glowworm micron, vokera etc 😁
Enjoying your new videos, got to renew my exams in a few months, so will be watching more to get my brain back into remembering regs and so on. I really struggle after changing the rubber and probes, getting the fan Assembly to push down and turn, there must be a trick to it, as i took ages on my last one, any tips would be a great help. Also great tip on the 15mm pipe, gonna upgrade it by using a cut off of push fit plastic to help if a slight bend is needed. keep up the top work, cheers
Nice one Derek, excellent tutorial with some great tips, it's a thumbs-up and a sub from me. Just one thing for your info, 13mm spanner for 8mm stud/bolt, 10mm stud/bolt uses a 17mm spanner.
Amazing video. This helps a lot for me. I love your comments about cleaning those things in Coca Cola to Harry Kane’s performance in last match😂😂😂. Thank you very much Derek. 😃👍
I am struggling at the first step, I have remover 4 screws from the top of the cover and the top is loose the bottom has no screws I can see but seems still solid, can you help with what I am missing please, the video is excellent by the way, thanks
This highlights one of the reasons I don’t particularly like Worcester. Need a special tool to get the baffles ( which is just a hook) . You need special keys to fill the older ones. You need access from the top, so if it’s in a cupboard ……. . Expansion vessels behind All the components. Everything is just overly complicated. Nice video though 😀
Hello Big fan of your videos as I have had to watch it a bit over the past few days. Can you think of a scenario where there will be fluid in the Gas valve and fan for these boilers. I moved to a new place with this boiler in it. After an initial diagnosis of a broken fan, the gas safe engineer found fluid in both the gas valve and fan when replacing the fan. I'm very baffled by this. any ideas. I'm trying to access the situation to avoid throwing parts at it
50\50 mix of warm water and bicarbonate of soda in a pressure bottle, spray it in the heat ex and leave for 20 mins then brush out and flush condensate, job done
Buenos días son super interesantes tus vídeos. Te propongo que pongas subtítulos en español para los españoles y nuestros hermanos que hablan nuestro idioma. Un saludo 🇪🇦
Hi Derek. A question for you on my 14-year-old Greenstar 24Ri boiler. After a change of the orange/brown gasket and the 3 electrodes (as shown at 10:15) it has started leaking water from the top of the heat exchanger. It is a slow leak from around the area where the gasket was changed and it runs down the body of the heat exchanger. It leaks when the boiler is off. Any ideas anyone?
see the green part at the top of the heat exchanger, its mounted on the front. should that read 0 ohms normally? mine appears to jump about in the 100s of ohms range. System runs hot and cold after being used for 10 minutes. and the gas goes out with a puff noise.
Worcester boilers never easy even though I've installed for over 30+ years. Another excellent video. Maybe try soaking baffle etc completely in coke 😂👌
A suggestion for the cleaning of the baffles, instead of using tubs - get some empty 2L coke bottles and cut the top bit off so thee baffles fit in and can be filled completely covering them with your chosen fluid be it Coke or white vinegar. How clean do the baffles need to be? apart from the fluid can\should you use a brush on them? Also do we have to play crappy music when using a vacuum? lol
I only clean them if the fan presure reading is close to failing . White vinegar is better . They are a terrible design ,this is why they get neglected . I cant beleive the new 4000 series as the same crap heat exchanger . I prefer the cdi or 8000 series . They are a doddle to service .
@@johnward5006 white wine vinegar or baking soda mixed with warm or cold water. I shouldn't see why a small amount of diluted system cleanser wouldn't work.
You coward.... Lol, i would have liked to see you do one thats never been apart in a cupboard with a low ceiling, trust me guys it is not that easy i have spent half hour just to disconnect the gas connection without splitting the plastic. and over an hour removing the bottom baffle, white vinegar works well on breaking down the aluminium oxides. Great in depth video thank you, i like the 15mm tube trick..... Im having that one as my own 😜👍 Keep up the good work, stay safe!
On the combi wi that h/exc there is videos on how to put cleanser in to clean it. The new erp boiler wi same cell has no way to bleed air from top and no inspect plate at bottom for checking how much muck in it. There's wb for you
The ribbed heat cells are due to a lack of servicing and poor system water quality. Due to baked up and sluged waterways through the cell. I think the heat can't dissipate downwards below the baffles and causes positive pressure in the top part of the hex. It's why servicing's essential on these kebab type heat cells. Worcester should buckle up and change their design. They do offer a 10 year warranty on these flawed cells. I've managed to get them to change it once for a customer. Those burner door gaskets are a poor design altogether. It's a pain to clean the hex especially when the flue systems covering the casing window plate. I find white white vinegar works well to help free up the baffles. Great tutorial Derek, why is it the bearing plates start to stick on these? These 1st time I removed one I almost installed it the wrong way. Head scratching and looking through the Mi's I managed to figure which way it was supposed to go. That day common sense went out the window 😏.
Worcester and others MUST put access for repairs and servicing on top of their considerations when designing. Why make it so difficult when other manufacturers have already shown you how its done.
I do love these boilers but people keep saying when I strip one down that the last guy never did that before. The pictures are on the front of the heat exchanger about the baffles let alone the MI . I said what did he do and they say just hoovered out the inside of the chamber. No burner out nothing. I wonder if he rode a horse but am I being harsh
Pour loads of water town the flue. The only reason these block is because the p.o.s heat exchangers rot and collapse. All that gray sludge in the trap is your boiler becoming less economical each year!! Save ypur money on this garbage and fit an Ideal.
Use coke and wait 2 hours 🤣.. kamco ls3 surface cleaner or dual x it’s proper combustion cleaner used in oil combustion engineers . Clean that in about 5 mins
Great Videos as always. Very handy for all who are newer to the industry. Many thanks
I think that this is one of the most informative videos i've ever watched. I will be looking out for Worcesters from now on .
Cheers mate !
Another top quality accurate video. Thank you Derek. This helps a lot. I like what you did with the copper attachment on the vacuum cleaner😂❤

Heat X cleaning kit and a 1Litre bottle of special sludge cleaning fluid. Great thanks for this helpful & informative video! 👍👍
Don't envy you engineers servicing theses boilers especially in tight kitchen wall units ....ace video though...nice one Derek.

Started servicing boilers.. brilliant video for when your head goes.
Thank you Derek for the explanation of servicing a 'Kenab ' heat exch. I've never been a fan of this model.
Great video. It was great to see a demonstration on how you actually carry out the cleaning. Thanks Derek. Much appreciated 👍🏻

How do you remove the battles with a right hand flue outlet
and fitted into a kitchen cupboard.
Thought that would be obvious buddy. Take the boiler off the wall
Pull the heat cell out.

Water in the gas supply is really the only way water will get in the gas valve
Another great video, Cheers.
Very helpful thanks Derek👍👍👍
Straighten the handle on the brush and put a drill on it, makes cleaning the hex easier
Great video must get round to ordering some gaskets and new probes etc... and do ours! Only cirtisism....PPE no gloves 😄👍
been doin one of these today and looosing the will to live, mine seems to be blocked, so much that it was not possible to start up.
Really good video thanks! Can you explain exactly what the baffles are and how they work? Thanks 😁
Good call I will put it on the to do list 👍🏻
Can't wait to see you cut it open! :D
Any idea if there a life expectancy on the Greenstar 24i Junior. I mean, in a domestic situation, would twenty years be expecting too much. Cheers.
Most boilers are designed to last between 10 and 15 years

Derek if we find heat cells are kebabing does that mean they need replaced or do Worcester give warranties on these ?
Don’t always need replacement and I have known Worcester replace them and not
Worcester boilers never easy even though I've installed for over 30+ years. Another excellent video.

could my heat exchanger be blocked thers nothing coming out the pipe trying to bleed the system ?

Hi Thanks for the video. Where did you get the cleaning kit? You say you paid £28.00 for it. I cant find it for that price. Cheers!
Got it from a website not sure what one
Direct heating supplies £27.84
Great Video
I come across these all the time where they run the flue to the right across the removable cleaning hatch .. !!

What chemical cleaner do Worcester engineers recommend?
Their own brand 😉 WB1 & WB3
I meant for cleaning baffles etc.

Aluminium oxide particles - heat exchanger disintegrating...How about stainless steel heat exchangers, some other brands use them?
Well how to justify time and parts doing this boiler which is never being serviced
Most i see have been run with no water in which causes the kebab.Expansion vessel always flat.(no pressure sensor on this boiler)
It shouldnt fire up.
Great video. A vokera compact if you have 1
I don’t have one but I guess it won’t be long before I do 😜
Service one of these then service an intergas then tell me what your fitting in future
Nice video I would have used a little scraper to clean out that and not a screwdriver
Would have liked to see it being put back together because they are fiddly
Had one today when we had to take the whole heat exchanger out because the baffles did not want to move
Coke for me man🖖 works all the time release the bottom baffle not to clean, use a small wire brush to clean 👍
What would you use for the top baffle? A light abrasive?
Top boy ... 👍
Dave Thompson 👍🏻
How many " inspections" I wonder will be that intrusive. I think I'll go with another stainless steel heat exchanger.

Baxi platinum combi so much easier to service never been keen on Worcester boiler s😂
HATE them! Charge double
Only the Germans would design rubbish like that .
Compacts are even worse .

Absolutely despise them. The worst design by a long shot for servicing or working on the hydraulics.
Designed by a clown.
Poor boilers all round Worcester’s are installing them isn’t as easy as it should be
£28 for a bottle brush and a bent piece of sheet metal. Sounds about right for WB.😮
If not doing this regularly then just use some 2.5mm electrical wire with a noose on the end and a new bog brush.
Total cost £1.99 :)
Vinegar might have done a better job, instead of coke, Vinegar removes rust so I know it works on iron.
