    The hybrid system is actually really intelligent. It never leaves you with a heavy 320i, it always keeps some juice. And if you select a destination into the navigation system, the car automatically plans the energy usage for the route, so when to go electric, when to recuperate, when to go fuel only, etc. Even with an empty battery, this system works. Sure, it's a compromise, but taxes are a lot better for this, especially if you drive it as a work car. It's even better when you can charge for free at work. It's the choice for cheap luxury.

    I actually quite like these. I recently had the chance to test a 320e and a X3 30e. The g21 I drove clearly is the better drivers car compared to the X3. Felt much more like your typical BMW. Nicely weighted steering, low seating position and a stiff suspension. The X3 was good, very comfortable and quiet. But I absolutely didn't like the high seating position. It felt like getting in and out of a truck. But all in all I have to say, that I actually really enjoyed driving both of them. By the way, this comes from someone who owns and drives a 530i E60.

    I had a 330e sedan as a loaner from the BMW dealer, and it was awesome. I liked the initial surge from the electric motor and driving around in pure electric mode at low speeds. It felt like it was on even footing with our 330i in terms of power. I think it makes a ton of sense as a commuter car but was also rather enjoyable to drive.
    Obviously I think the 330i is more fun to drive, especially with the M Sport package like ours has.

    If you use it well, the PHEV concept is great! I have 2.9 Liters of fuel consumption over 30.000 km with about 50-50% Autobahn and city driving. Comparing that to the performance I think it's amazing. Also in electric drive the car is very relaxing and comfortable which is important for a daily driver.

    I Have 1 (320I). My first BMW and when I see the car in the driveway it looks very nice on all sides. Bought second hand, the first depreciation could be done by someone else. Due to an occasion shortage, even more valuable after a year. Very practical (often even use the extra opening rear window, very quickly accessible). And drives wonderfully well, what they say about BMW is really true. I love the touring and the looks.

    Around 11:33 you say "As soon as you run out of battery, you're left with an 320i". Typically when the range drops below 5km and you're driving in sports mode, the battery gets charged automatically until a range of 4 to 5km is reached again. So yeah, the power is there but for quite some time the car will be consuming a lot more fuel to charge the battery. The fuel consumption while driving and charging the car simulteneously increases with 3l/100kmh. Highway driving at 130 km/h is +/- 7.5l/100kmh (without charging and just driving with petrol)

      @CarlFuckingJohnson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Indeed, it’s a big misconception, when you drive fast using sport mode for example, you never run out of battery because you’re braking hard too.
      The only way you will end up with a 320i is when you’re on a autobahn trip without any traffic (no braking or rolling) and you’re pushing the limits out of the car, wich is a pretty unrealistic scenario.

    Thanks for the video.👍 I didn't think the 330ie would fill up so badly.
    The other day I drove 1000km with the 340dx M T. Apart from the fact that the steering wheel was constantly crooked by about 3°, it drove very well. The swipe felt brutal. Mainly on the freeway. Unfortunately, many people cannot think as fast as the acceleration of these cars.
    By the way, I found the active steering on the 3 Series to be very precise, even on the freeway from 140 km/h. Unfortunately, I can't say that about the 530d. The 530d is "exhausting" to drive without lane assistants at speeds over 140 km/h. Anyway, both nice cars.

    I mean my father has a 330e g20 sedan and i personally think that car is quite fun to drive maybe not the best in feel. It is also stage 1 and does 100-200 in about 10 seconds flat and takes the win in a rolling race against a 2018 rs3 sedan with the new engine. It’s also on H&R lowering spring wich really helped with feel. A great car imo.

      Tuning an 330e or better yet, an 545e sounds like best of both worlds. Great fuel economy for city driving and great power for highway fast driving, with the electric power filling in for any turbo lag. The risk is the reliability and voided warranty though.
      I have both an 330e and X5 45e in my household. Hoping both cars stays reliable stock through most of warranty period. By year 3 or 4, I'd be very tempted to tune it when the 2022 DMEs are unlocked.

    I think a 330e is a great family car. It is very economical for commuting, it sounds good when driving sportively, and you can travel long distances with a big trunk. It feels always quicker than a 320i as the battery is always kept with a minimum charge to support the engine in full accelerations.

    • @abdulmonnan2307
      @abdulmonnan2307 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, that is very useful to know, the reviewers say that when the battery is flat it is just a 320i with extra weight, which would suggest that it is slower than a regular 320i with the extra battery weight, but your comment means that is just not true.

    I recently went to a BMW dealer for an i4 or 330e or an X3 30e for a new company car. After the worst experience I’ve ever had with a dealer I narrowed my choice to a Mercedes C300e estate or a V60 T6. Advantage of those 2 is that both those cars have bigger batteries and a bigger fueltank. On top of that they both have a fair bit more power. They are less sporty, but for 2 tonne cars that aren’t sporty it doesn’t really matter.

    • @michielvans.6092
      @michielvans.6092 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      very true, every manufacturer upgraded their PHEV batteries except BMW.. Literally only 20km of realistic electric drive and after that a higher fuel consumption vs regular combustion cars and no battery upgrade in 6 years.. Really only a choice for tax reasons and BMW has nice car colors. He should only compare this car to other PHEV and indeed Mercedes C300e and Volvo V60 T6 or T8 are much better alternatives since last year..

    This car is a better ride without adaptive suspension and without runflat. Like I have chosen after testing before buying. The non-adaptive suspensions have a new developed progressive damper type that the adaptive system does not have. And the adaptive system are stiff and stiffer in its two settings, not firm vs comfortable. But the M-suspension I have are also too stiff for a streetcar imo.

I really like the power at lower speeds, the car accelerates very well, but at higher speeds the power fades away quite quickly. Also the small fuel tank is a drawback. Biggest plus is the discount on the “bijtelling” you get for driving a hybrid here in Germany, otherwise I would have chosen the 330i.

      You will run out of power when you are travelling constantly at higher speeds. At high engine loads, it's not able to charge the battery concurrently. You either have to let off the gas or brake to regen or travel at lower speeds.
      It's very distinct reduction in power that you can feel, at higher speeds; indeed like driving a 320i.

      @@deesknees7009 The Vmax is reached even without the electric engine. So even when driving at over 200 kph for over 1h you still got power from the electric motor when accelerating

      @@stormdancer1910 I disagree. If you select a mode that conserves battery charge, then yes you would have power, but not for propulsion.
      Having owned a hybrid myself, the battery definitely runs out of juice at high speeds. Which is why PHEVs are never recommended if you do a lot of highway driving. Diesels serve that purpose better.

    Just get a look to the consumptions displayed in spritmonitor and you get a sense of the wide range of capabilities of this car.
    Average is 4.6l/100km, with 9% of users below 2l/100km and 9% above 7l/100km (max 9,7).
    Even with no recharge, the consumption remains reasonnable, at least comparable with some 200hp petrol cars.
    We can assume most of the users regularly charge their car, with 60% of them below 5.0l/100km...
    This technology is certainly not for everybody.
    But, in case you have the right profile, you can perfectly commute on full electric the whole week without starting the petrol engine, with electricity costs 4 times less per km than petrol, at least here in France.
    You can cruise long distances on highways at less than 7l/100km.
    And finally, you can still get fun on small or moutain roads whenever you want.
    You should not believe it is a 340i, even not a 330i, but it remains a very pleasant and dynamic car. With the bonus of absolutly nice electric driving within cities.

    I have a 530E, I agree with your comments. The electric driving is nice , comfy and suits my needs (over 60 pct electric km). Unfortunately my electricity contract expires in a few months and I probably won''t charge anymore in future unless at work. Prices for electricity are up to 5 times higher making electric driving a lot more expensive then petrol. Looks like I'll be hauling 200 kg of useless batteries around for most of the time.. I also thought the performance above 100KMH was a bit lacking. My garage added a mosselman mod. Mid range and accelerations above 100 KMH are way better.

      Wheres the common sense in pushing EVs but electricity is 5x expensive ? Unless thats the plan, push EVs and then make prices soar as people wont have another choice to get around. Thats why I cant believe this is about ecology. Its just another bullshit to make more money.

    I’m usually a fan of autotopnl, but I think this review misses the mark. I’m tired of reviewers trying a car for 10 mins with wrong tyres even, and then making a conclusion. Yes, runflats suck. Every forum says so. The bridgestones also suck. Insane that bmw offers them. My bmw 330e on dry roads with 18 inch non-runflat pirellis, drives like a stiffer mx5 with x3 the power. Fun fun fun. And it still has xtraboost with a “flat” battery.

    • @justus9694
      @justus9694 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      even if it was already warm for the video, that's what I think is a problem with PHEVs. It works if you have your short commutes where you'll drive in full electric mode and then only use the petrol engine for longer distances. But the standard "hybrid" mode, which uses the petrol engine whenever it thinks it might be necessary, is like an even worse start-stop feature for the engine.
      It might be usable if you actively decide how you want to drive before you go, and might be more durable if one has to always manually decide which mode to use for this drive. But I guess more comfort wins over more durability.

      @kirthgersen3968 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The power or rpm meter shows you the range you can use until the engine is warm. The more the engine warms-up, the more graduations you get displayed on the counter. Still, waiting for the oil temperature to be high enough remains under the responsibility of the driver. No secret; nobody forbids you to run your diesel engine in high revs in the first kilometer either...
