    Something about black and white adds so much atmosphere to these old shows. I didn't grow up in that era but I love these old shows.

      I bought my only color TV used for $200 in 1993 and when my nieces visited, they never even noticed I hadn't had color the many years before so when taking them home, I asked if they noticed I had a color TV. We didn't watch TV but I would rent a funny VCR tape... FYI, YOUR BRAIN IS IN USE MORE, TRANSFERRING IT INTO COLOR so that's probably why you enjoy it more-- YOUR BRAIN IS WORKING as opposed to just watching. OH, ON THIS IT'S DIFFERENT as there are large black edges so it's more noticeable but if it enveloped the entire screen it would be different.

      Yours is an astute observation ! I did grow up in that era, and I didn't realize how correct your observation was until I saw a episode in color . It just didn't create the unsettling ambiance that is perfect for this story . I hope you get as much enjoyment out of "One Step Beyond" as I do !

    What a joy to see these old black and white episodes again.I saw them when I was a young boy and was always scared to death of what they showed. It got me to wondering about what was really real. I found that there are many sides to life and most of them we don't understand yet. Why things happen the way they do has always been a puzzle for me. I think with black and white you pay more attention to the actors. And shadows are important.

    When the train conductor says that Kumar doesn’t understand about classes, it was somewhat ironic considering that India has so many classes of its own.

    My eldest sister was deep into this reincarnation stuff. She purchased the books, wasted her money, some say, on this topic. I used to read those books after she was done, and I have to say, the concept is indeed very comforting, especially when she has now gone on to the great beyond, or has she? Her remains, her ashes if you will, as she was cremated, it's cheaper, and she was a poor lady, are still sitting on the end table in my nieces apartment. Her last wishes were that they be spread across the grass that still grows behind what remains the skeleton of a house where we spent our youth in the 50's. The place where she and my other sister used to run and play on that grass in those ever so happy days. Well both sisters have now gone, and when the snow has gone, and the sun has baked the old dirt roads that lead to that long abandoned farm-site in North Dakota, I will accompany my mom, if she lives that long, and my niece to that place, and we shall sprinkle her ash over the grass, so once again, my sisters can run, hand in hand across the green green grass of home. Then again, do they lay side by side as the twins who would be my youngest sister's great-great grand children?

    Amazing! So many OSB (original b&w ones) that I not seen before. I enjoyed being goosebumpy scared especially watching them alone in the dark. My parents were upstairs (they were not TV addicts) but they allowed me (age 10) to watch all the TV I wanted so long as my grades were good, my chores and responsibilities around the house done and did all the other stuff kids back then participated in. But as a "Tweener" my priorities became girls, sports, getting even better grades, girls, hanging out with my friends and classmates, and did I mention, girls?
    So for me, seeing many of these OSB episodes for the first time is a treat.

    Lots of Love from India, Mr. Newland, wherever you are.Lots of love from India to all.❤❤ And India is NOT as mysterious and unfathomable as the West would have you think. Open for all. Welcomes all (except Pakistanis😬). We are a pretty practical lot. Yes, one thing is true: we do look at life and death somewhat differently. There s so much diversity (with 24 official languages and hundreds of dialects) that even among ourselves we do not always understand or accept each other's views on the matter.

    • @vidhushekhar17
      @vidhushekhar17 ปีที่แล้ว

      And about the trains! Yes, in 1959 perhaps some people from villages did not understand the trains. Today, with 115,000 km of track length, 12,617 trains carry over 23 million passengers DAILY (equivalent to moving the entire population of Australia) connecting more than 7,172 stations, with most passengers tracking the progress of their trains on smartphones. So you can bet we do know something about the stuff.

      Cynthia---- partly right.... Karma is real and so is Reincarnation as it was in the bible in plain view but was taken out by some ??Religious Bishops and others around 550 AD. Reincarnation is still mentioned in the scriptures. And it was the base grounding in the Christian Faith. how could God give to one man a rich life and to another a poor rough life. if all they had was one life to live>???? Exactly that is so wrong today.... The soul reincarnates and as to what is how the soul behaves while on the earth. God gave all Free Will and to choose to do what one wants be it GOOD or BAD. but the rewards at the end are just. Jesus said that all of down here are sinners and have come short of Gods Glory we sure made some wrong choices. and God s Law stands eternal what you sow so shall you reap..... and the soul carries the deeds to the judgement place when one dies. shedds their garb of flesh.

    I believe in re-incarnation, you can’t kill something as intangible as a personality, it has to go somewhere when the the body dies. The logical thing is to hang around until a new body without a personality is born. Then start again without memories.

    • @ucunique7
      @ucunique7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spirit doesn't die. The body dies. Your personality can change through reincarnation based unders the aspects your born under but you are you. You are how the power behind ALL things express itself. Infinite potential. On this plane in this human carnation our actions are limited but potential is infinite.

I disagree with you that there's such a world-shaking difference in the way Mexicans and Asians look and the way these people "should look" and wouldn't appreciate attempts by TH-cam commenters as to what I should 'look like" racially if ever portrayed in a fictional television episode. Boy, was that a needless waste of typing. Night-night!

      One Step Beyond aired from 1959 to 1961. The character was supposed to have been born in 1925. That would mean the character was at most 36. If this were a "true story", it would not have been sufficiently well known right away, meaning he was presumably about 30 at the time of his death, and the man who killed him would have been 50 to 55.

    • @Carly8Corday

      Whatever the case, this episode was a dreadful one IMO. It seemed to be a study in irritants. The wife's sharp, breaking voice shrilling "Len! Len! Len!" without rest, the strange little man refusing to budge, just standing there jabbering after bursting in, as the male tourist's startled rage went from overblown to murderous in seconds, the characters stumbling around without purpose, tripping face-first over things, making me want get up in a fit of defensive cussing and go take a Tylenol, turning it off as I hurried by. What the heck was that all about????

    He had the old man pegged dead to right. The conductor's bullshit excuse "he doesn't understand the different classes on a train" is total bullshit; INDIA is a Caste society. They know damn well their place in society, and they know better than crossing the line. The guy should chill out and lay off the nerve pills. He's overreacting due to his addiction, but he was spot on in his discernment of the old peasant. He would have slit their throats in a NEW YORK MINUTE. In a real life scenario, the Conductor would have in in on the dirty deal, and would have set it from the start. He should have pushed of the train.
