Besides Mary Wickes and Thelma Ritter there's Michael Ansara another character actor from the golden age of black and white TV. He was Barbara Eden's husband and you saw him play a few characters on the show.
Robert Stevenson the director was a Hitchcock favorite. He had a real Hitchcockian flare for the 26 minute story format. Note the accent on food, milkshakes, gossip and more food in this playlet and the ending with Thelma RItter curled up with a cheap romance novel next to a pile of gnawed chicken bones. Very Hitchcock indeed.

OMG, Mary Wickes’ portrayed a nurse twice in 1942 and both movies starred Bette Davis! “The Man Who Came To Dinner” as Nurse Preen then Nurse Dora Pickford in “Now, Voyager”. My personal favorite was in 1956 Abbott & Costello last film, “Dance With Me Henry”. A career that spanned over six decades. An extremely intelligent woman who never married or bore any children. Thelma Ritter was nominated for six Oscars, unfortunately she never won. Not only was she a terrific comedian but playing Elizabeth McCartney Stroud in the “Birdman of Alcatraz” 1962 she was just phenomenal! (Of course Burt Lancaster played her son Robert Stroud.) Ritter was also nominated for several Golden Globes and Emmys. She won a Tony award for best actress in a musical, “New Girl in Town” 1957 and she had to share that because it was a tie with her costar Gwen Verdon. The one thing I am very shocked about was Thelma Ritter was 54 and Mary Wickes was 46 when this was filmed... I am 59 years old and l look my age but these women looked older than I do. Which is very surprising because they ate healthier foods I’m assuming. 🤷🏻♀️ Anyway I’m seriously enjoying all of these Alfred Hitchcock Presents so Thank You from the bottom of my heart! ♥️ Lately they’ve been playing the same movies over and over again on TCM 📺 I am a huge old movie buff and TV shows from the 1950s and 60s.
@@jccurran9327, Merry Christmas(?) to you, too! (Lol) And I did not know, but am not surprised, that the exotically beautiful Ms. Eden once had a handsome exotic-looking man.
@MRWorldGuy Yeah. That's the trouble. The policies change like the weather. Like the new thing about deleting accounts that aren't profitable...or something like...as of December '19
Moviegoers of the 40's and 50's will definitely know who Thelma Ritter was. She was one of the most consummate character actors of her time. She literally stole scenes from the protagonists of many films. Here in this Alfred Hitchcock episode she plays the Baby Sitter to a warring couple. Prima facie, the wife seems like the culprit for all the unhappiness that is unleashed in this constant bickering household. While Ritter's character does an excellent job of looking after the son, the husband too feels gratitude for the quality of her work. The baby-sitter literally worships the husband to the point of acting like a giggling teenager in his presence. She tells herself, she couldn't help this girlish intuition. The wife blatantly carries on with her lover [played by Micheal Ansara] much to the chagrin of her husband. When the wife is murdered one night, the baby sitter is interrogated mercilessly. First the wife's boyfriend threaten her not to reveal any information to the cops, then the investigators make her repeat her story, making her life a living hell. When she goes home eventually, she's alone and hears a knock on the door. She is more than surprised to see the husband enter her house. While she is excited, she is also puzzled. He takes her into a room, closes the door, and with a face that would make even Christoper Lee cringe, he puts an end to her life. Ms. Ritter is excellent and literally walks away with the episode.

Thelma Ritter and Mary Wickes what an awesome duo.
Thelma Ritter! Loved her so! Best role was in “Rear Window” with Jimmy Stewart. Flawless performance.
Loved her in Pillow Talk. Drank Rock Hudson under the table.
She was great in “The Misfits” too-Marilyn Monroe’s best performance as well.
Is she John Ritters Mother or Aunt?
Try "The Model and the Marriage Broker." Love Thelma Ritter. Also, "The Mating Season."
Yes, but I liked her in The Mating Season.

Thelma was in Dorris Day movies. She was her maid, and ended her day drunk. Her roles are perfect for her face and voice. I enjoy her.
Thanks for Great video! I can always come to your channel be relaxed at good videos of Hitchock
Mr. Nash wasn't Mr. Nice afterall.
Thelma Ritter got killed in a similar way in full-length feature, 'Pick up on South St.,' too.
Her greatest dramatic role in a film noir. She walks the streets selling ties, holding them up like she's offering men a noose.
Poor thing. She just wanted to be loved.
At her age, she should have just settled for Mary Wickes.
