    How tall was John Newland , I can't find it on Wikipedia .

    • @one-step-beyond-1959
      @one-step-beyond-1959  6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I'm guessing that Newland was at least 6'5". And I think that's probably the best guess overall. If he were much taller than that . . . there'd have been prejudice against him in casting throughout his career. There are not a lot of actors taller than 6'5" . . . and those that are, we mostly know for being niche characters. Christopher Lee, John Cleese, and Tim Robbins are all 6'5". James Arness was 6'7" and Fred Gwynne 6'8" -- both KNOWN for being very tall. So Newland at 6'5" seems the most likely . . .

    • @katylake212
      @katylake212 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I'm not sure John Newland was quite that tall. If Lois Maxwell was 5 ft. 8, in this story, she's wearing high heels, say 2 inches high. That'd make her 5 ft. 10. In the beginning of this story, they're walking around one another. Newland is definitely taller, but not towering over her (I'm 5 ft. 9 myself; my husband is 6 ft. 3, and he's definitely a lot taller than me, comparing us to Maxwell and Newland in the beginning of this story.) I'd be more likely to believe he's around 6 ft. 2 or 3.

    • @one-step-beyond-1959
      @one-step-beyond-1959  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @katylake212: The heels are making her look TALLER than she actually is . . . and so making Newland look SHORTER in comparison. I still see enough difference between frame 1:54 (Newland) and frame 2:16 (Maxwell) to stick with my estimate that Newland is 6 ft 5 . . .

      Rock Hudson was 6’5, and he was in countless movies and tv shows. I may have to disagree on being locked into their characters simply due to their height. James Arness stayed with Gunsmoke because they fit perfectly with his lifestyle. Look at John Wayne and Kirk Douglass in the “War Wagon”. Kirk kept adding lifts to his boots to appear taller when next to Wayne. I think it all boils down to their acting skills. But? Hey… I’m just an older guy with an opinion.

    These are good shows and they are interesting because they are based on real stories. Wish we had stuff like this to watch nowadays instead of the crap that's on tv.

    • @fidomusic
      @fidomusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Most of them were not based on true stories. They are pure fiction. But Newland cleverly presented them as if they were true stories. An exception is "Signal Received", which is loosely based around the sinking of the HMS Hood in WII.

    I watched this series in the early 1960's. Didn't see them again for 50 years. Still find the theme music intense and strangely beautiful. Many of the episodes are still very watchable. Although the claim is that the stories are "real life", almost all are very loosely based on events, which is why Newland only very rarely provides names and dates. One exception to this is the Titanic episode.

    Very touching story! I think the phenomenon they tried to describe here is something called a residual haunting; it's where an intense event is impressed upon the aura, like John Newland said, of a place and is repeated over and over, like playing a DVD or a video again and again, traditionally on the anniversary of the event without any actual ghosts being present. Another possibility is that the guilt-ridden Morrisons either astral-projected or dream-walked themselves back to their prior home on the anniversary of their daughter's death, and that Will and Esther Hollis were sensitive enough to see them reenact their tragedy.

      I seen , felt and heard a few things and decided to keep them for me ever since I discovered not everyone will buy what you say and so keeping off humiliation was best. I understand the disbelief. I suffered, or both my son and I, both ways but will keep on going.
      Spirits are real. Heaven created them long before man and they come in different shapes, sizes and occupy different envoronments. Little I know but one fact is true that a few tribes of them are good meaning they won’t do man any harm because they’re God-fearing.
      As for the story in here. It is definitely a recreation done by spirits for the truth to come out. Why does it matter.. I cannot answer that and it shall remain a mystery.
