I'm 63 years old and I still love watching these old shows because the TV shows that come on today are garbage with no class stupid comedies these are old classics I can watch all night it brings back memories from when I was a kid I used to beg my mother to stay up to watch these classics one step beyond is one of my favorites

I keep seeing this sentiment repeated, and it's simply not true. Yes, these are good, but a lot of the stuff produced at the time was also crap. Always remember Sturgeon's Law: "90% of everything is crap". There are actually still good programs being made today, it just can be very hard to find them.

This is before I was born, never heard of it before, feel like I discovered buried treasure, this is pure gold I never knew how much class they had back then.
These shows..... Mr. Newland's narration, the acting, the story lines , screenplay and the music tied into an amazing bundle
So nice to be able to watch a great show that doesn't rely upon sex, blood and guts or profanity to achieve a rating

agreed, sometimes our minds fill in many details like when we read a book. someone else will read the same book but the characters they envision are unique to them. think about this question, let me know if you have answer: Do you dream in colour or black & white?

Isn’t it amazing how black & white films are virtually & amazingly full of different shades of gray? It only causes us to use our imaginations & our own authentic conclusions more mixed up with what’s reality & what is mystical. Color causes us to see the starkness of what we are used to seeing. These shades of gray ~ not black & white ~ cause our minds to make up our own imaginations into a ‘dustbowl’ of confusions & therefore conclusions. I love the diversity it gives each individual their own interpretations!

yes and without all that tv adverts that just bug your mind, one third to tell you where to put your money, the second third to sell you junk food and crap games and the last third to sell you drugs to cure you of all the junk food you've eaten. So I just don't turn the tv on anymore... Maybe for more than one year now, it's there only for decoration now...

The home is so beautiful. Gorgeous baseboards, doors, and door frames.
One of many reasons I love the old movies, shows...the furnishings, the clothes, the *class!* We seem to be devolving now...😐
Artistry and craftsmanship were prized and valued....also the age of mass production and consumption/consumerism hadn't yet reached the proportions which would be the ultimate undoing of western esp American culture.....

This was on every Saturday night at 8 pm. My mom would make popcorn and flip the top off a twist glass 16 oz bottle of Pepsi.
I also grew up watching this show. I was so excited when I saw it’s on TH-cam.
This is a show I watched in the 50's, 60''s, 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's and now. I don't know what that says about me, but I'm an eternal fan.Thanks for sharing.

these shows & movies had more insight & imagination than we do now.
That's because there's nothing to write. These stories are true so all the writer has to do is tell it.
Technology has taken a lot of that away from us. Same with good music. Out creativity and imagination is not needed anymore..sadly.
I think that people in general had greater insight and expanded their minds further 50 - 100 years ago than most people today do. It's because there were fewer distractions in the world everywhere back then, which allowed people to think further and more clearly. Most people today would get bored sick if they lived in the world of back then. But people back then were naturally more used to a world without the internet, laptops, smartphones, etc., and they used their time to really think and clear and expand their minds

Which I most certainly AGREE too be the case.
The majority of people today are so wrapped up in who is going to view or “like” their next post on FB, Instagram, Snapchat, Tictok, or whatever else is out, they don’t have a real life, or chance too live it!
The movies and songs are all the same now.

Great series, great actors, can't stop watching, so intriguing, a hundred times better than modern movies :-)
With virtually NO special effects, they created a show with more drama than "The Last Jedi" or many other movies that had big budgets but no plot.
They put a major old fashioned ingredient (which seems to be no longer available) into every one of their shows ... it's called QUALITY!

The man who envisioned the murder actually set in motion what was later to be a murder. The lady was a flirt and had flirted with other men before. The husband was jealous and couldn't take it anymore and on their yearly weekend getaway, got drunk, became very angry, and he killed her.
I've said it before - in these times of lock down, there is nothing better. Thank you for making stay at home much easier.
Watching shows like this makes us more open to the occurrence of unusual events and may be the seed that the Universe bestows upon the open-minded in our own lives.

I remember this show growing up in the Bronx in the 1960's. I only remember glimpses of it. I was too little to understand it. I'm 64 now and glad to see someone preserving it. Pure and simple acting, no special effects or camera tricks. Just a good musical score and talent. Wow. What a treat to see this series. I was 7 or 8 when I saw glimpses of it in a BW tv set. This series was a prequel to the Twilight Zone which some of those I do remember and the original Outer Limits.
Yes all of the great actors and directors are gone now. Now we have instead whiz bang graphics and no talent people running TV shows. Such a pity because younger people will never see great drama on TV like there cwas in the early days.
I agree completely. I quit cable about 5 years ago and my stress level has been nearly non-existent. I have only been watching older shows from the late 50's to the early 80's and still favor the earlier shows. Mostly because they had some kind of moral value whereas the crap that is being spoon fed to our youth is nothing but pure mind poison. If I were in charge of the military then Hollywood would be the third place I would NUKE.

My mother was excellent at clairvoyance. I inherited it from her. The males in my family couldn’t do anything in the 6th sense.
One Step Beyond, Outer Limits & Twilight Zone were shows that the whole family looked fwd to in our house.
I've had around 30 premonitions in my life that came true. My husband has researched many of these episodes and found they were indeed factual. I watched this series as a child, and still hold the same fascination for them over 50 years later. I do believe there is a 4th dimension. If I could control my premonitions, I would have won the lottery by now, but they just "come to me".
Paula Pacente, I had a friend who saw numbers on a curb in a dream. He played the numbers on Lotto the next day and won. He stood behind me at a roulette table once and said, '29 Black' When it didn't hit, he said 'let it ride' and it hit on the next role. He did it again with 27 Red and I quit and gave him some of the money he'd won for me, to enjoy for himself. I'm fascinated by this ability and hope you're able to follow your premonitions some day and prosper!
Unfortunately, about 95% of my premonitions have been bad, and at 64 my life's pretty well set. I saw the Challenger blow up about 3 days before it happened in 1986, but I was driving with my husband and thought we would see a fiery airplane crash. The other REALLY bad one was in January of 1989. My sister called, and said, "I have some news for you." I replied, "You're pregnant and it's going to be a girl." I then hung up the phone, and told my husband that something violently wrong is going to happen to that child. She was due in September, but on a night in August with a full moon, I told my husband, "That kid will be born tonight, and there will be BIG trouble." She was born that night, spent 3 days on life support and died when they took her off.
That's so sad about the baby. I'm sorry to hear it went that way for your sister and family. Yes, I do suppose it cuts both ways, how every blessing seems to come with an equal curse somehow. People with your gift raise many mysterious questions about the nature of time and reality outside our own construct of linear time. That's why we watch great old programs like this one. They evoke the mystery of it all. Thanks for sharing. Blessings.

I truly believe there is at least a fourth dimension, if not more. I surely wish I could control my premonitions, but I can't. It is true that all of the episodes are based on factual occurrences. There were some my husband researched, and found them to be true.

Agreed. The actors were usually of high calibre. Have you noticed how often Barbara Lord appears in One Step episodes? Very pretty lady, who is the mother of Patrick Warburton, a very busy actor (in the Seinfeld cast, notably).
What a tragedy to be blessed with foresight but unable to do anything about it.

From all the comments I have read it is clear that from watching tv shows from the early years you feel a connection with a time when the world was different and better than today and life for people was more meaningful.
And it is perfectly normal to want to temporarily go back in time when life really did mean so many good things. These old tv shows allow us to go back in time even if it is for an hour.
Having an interest to want to go back in time when people didn’t hate so much, pretend so much, lie so much, be so fake not care for anyone but themselves is okay. When people cared more for others. When old people were respected and admired. When so many people more than any other time in history face and experience homelessness. How did we get here?
Bless you all with peace and happiness and thank you all for making me feel so good and blessed by all your kind words about the not too distant past.
And even though the world has changed so much in such a short time I still demand of myself that I will follow the path of love, peace for all and be the best I can be.
And just because others believe it’s okay to live life with a bad attitude it does not mean that I must follow.

I find it amusing how, whenever Carter starts a sentence, he precedes the first word with "hmm" as in "hmmmthats right".
We kind of do that in Northern Michigan and now that I live in Texas it drives them nuts when it instinctively comes out. In Texas they always ask me, "what"? I still use it at home with my wife, which keeps it in my vocabulary. Like when I lived in England for awhile it depends on the conversation topic. Sometimes it means, "I agree", sometimes, "I get it/hear you/understand", sometimes, "yes", sometimes with a funny face, "oh brother", with a scowl, "perturbed". Usually mostly "I agree" and "yes".

Watched my very first original black & white movie in 1968, on a little screen, a big box tv. I was seven years old. Night of the Living Dead. I watched the whole movie by myself. I wasn't scared.

Did people really leave their front door open back then? Seems like all these old show/movies, the front doors are usually unlocked, or when the doorbell rings, the occupant of the home opens the door without first asking who it is.
yes, for the most part, they did. I remember us only locking the door at night and that was because people traveled the street at night which was very close to the front door (I'm old, right.)
Yep. In the 1950's and 60's nobody locked car doors or house doors/windows especially in small to medium sized towns. Most of the neighbors would hangout on weekends and backyard grill or have garage parties with lawn chairs on the driveway, ice chests w/ beer, soda and hamburgers with kids playing everywhere. You'd see rifles on pick up truck gun racks but nobody ever got shot at. Larger cities were a little more guarded but this was a safe, great country once.

Yes, even in northern Illinois when I was a child, we left our doors unlocked. The early 1960's was another world.
I grew up and we never locked the door 60's and 70's. I still don't lock the door but my wife does.
This was always a lot better than "The Twilight Zone."
I never saw "The Outer Limits," on tv but I believe I heard it on old radio shows on my computer----I really enjoyed it on the computer as old radio shows-----also similar old radio shows.

Steven Grotte: The Outer Limits, (originals) were creepy, some were dopey with childish monsters & effects, others were well done with imaginative effects. They were sci-fi of course... They’re available on dvd, I bought the set at Target, I think amazon also has them.
Uhhh... 'The Outer Limits' ('63-'64) was a very visual-effects show made for the TV Audience of the day. It was never considered a 'radio-serial' aired from some earlier time. To only have 'heard' that series means a lot was lost in translation. ;)

I recognized the lead actor from the movie "The Screaming Skull".

You van buy several different sets with all the episodes from different sources. Very bad quality but still a lot of fun. You can also get the first season, totally remastered. Good as new. This is one of the first. Find it on Amazon.

I just came across one step beyond, guess I gotta get caught up on them. That foriengn accent woman I've espyed somewhere in noir day before possibly another noir 30 min TV show or movie. This episode I found intriguing. Two of of these spools accidentally tapping on them I contrived Warren Beatty, the other Cloris Leachman. I'll look forward to ajudging both.

(You see, Donald Stewart himself was no longer living. He had died unexpectedly in a car crash after leaving his hostess' home the very night that he had experienced his vision of the future. In a moment, a preview of next week's "One Step Beyond".)

Just got hooded on this show last night. On one level, 😂 I call them furniture movies because of the beautiful sets. And the so slim actresses dressed up at dinner or a house party or even at a mountain cabin. (Check out the episode with Warren Beatty and Joan Fontaine.) Corny and campy.and delightful. 😅

How beautifully they CRAFTED the dialogues back then-in the West, and in my country India (in our language Hindi/Urdu, of course).
In the name of 'realism' now we mostly have foul tongue and expletives-again, in the West, and in my country India (in our 24 languages).
I thought Rowland specifically stated that the clairvoyant was not in invited back anymore, which was why he couldn't save her.
