    23:00 Big rules mistake.
    The active player may declare use of all matching Infra located on any one HQ. So you can't combined 2 infra to build. You need to pick only one + cards in your hand.

    We've found 1st Beyond in Starfarers to be a mixed bag - yes, you start on the star at Alpha Centauri, but it's a single tile and if you're unlucky in the Primary Discovery draw and don't get a tile with Colony bonus then it's going to be really hard to build a decent colony on it. You can mitigate it with adaptations like Enviro Tolerance and Hybrids (which lets you build two bases on one primary tile to get the CP bonus for that) but it has to all come together to really work.

    One of the things that surprised me the most was the excellent component quality. Those glossy tableus, and how about those extra thick player aids? I have never seen them that thick!

    Picking this up in this year's GMT sale and looking for some content to tide me over :). I was looking for something less in the monster wargame category than the other games I was getting. This really seemed to fit the bill.

    John Butterfield is also the co designer of the Conflict of Heroes SOLO expansion. The best solo wargame available besides Enemy Action: Ardennes...

    I've heard you guys mention Five Points 3 or 4 times now... I've never heard anyone else talk about it positively (if they mentioned it at all). I'd love for you to do a live play-through of it or, if not that, maybe a mini-review of it??? I'm becoming interested in it now!

    I bought it, I had it on my preorder P500 list and just before it's release I cleaned up my P500 auto purchase list and removed this one...accidently. There is only one word I needed to hear to know this was a must have....Butterfield. If you liked this game you should try Leaving Earth, it's hard to get your hands on but definitely worth the wait.

    the locations are neighbouring star systems, not galaxies. all in one galaxy (by looks of it) - eg. our galaxy...Milky Way. /pedant's corner. Aside from that, great video and game looks right up my space lane! (big fan of Elite computer game franchise, this looks like boardgame equivalent).

      Mark Flanagan +1 for Elite and SpaceCorps’ likeness. Bought SC because descriptions and reviews reminded me of Elite but haven’t played yet. Big fan of Elite since the BBC/Electron days I hope this game feels at least a little like that experience.

    Moving the wrong color block at 20:50. You are yellow not green on the score board

    I should point out an error at th-cam.com/video/m8PJqalCZyM/w-d-xo.html for whoever played Green - the Open Gas Core Nuclear Booster card (Move 4/Build2) on the right of their player card isn't one that can be placed as Infra! It has to say "May Upgrade as Infra" at the bottom! (it's a mistake we've made a few times too!). Another common thing to forget is that in order to move a Team using a Move action you need to start or end at a base.
    At th-cam.com/video/m8PJqalCZyM/w-d-xo.html you also have the option of spending 1-3T that's what you need to complete your move/explore/build action (you can only do this in the Planeteers/Starfarers era)- you don't need to use an opponent's Infra and give them a reward (though one of the adaptations allows you to do that without them getting a reward).

    11:37 taken out of context, totally sounds like a “that’s what she said” moment. 😂
    But otherwise a great review. Can’t wait to play this one.

    Have you guys considered rating the board games you review? Would be interesting to see how you score different games to distinguish between good, great and absolute classics.

    Like to check out your videos from time to time and this one caught my eye. Liked what you presented so wanted to see if there was an extended play through on youtube and found one by jPlay. Really liked the looks of the game, especially since there is a fleshed out solo play along with the multi-player experience. On-line retailers have stock at a decent price point so immediately ordered. Thanks for what you do.

    I've had one eye on this game for a couple of years and I think it's time to order a copy from NKG!
    Thanks for helping me to decide!

    I played 2 player and thought this would be better with 3 and maybe 4. Not sure there was much variety in strategy like I had initialy thought. it seemed more like just a race. I didnt feel like there was much reason to move up the tech and when to build infra seemed best strategy.

    have you tried to play SOLO starting from 3rd era? there is no setup how to do it, just the multiplayer one, and doesnt sound convincing

  • @drbasseri
    @drbasseri 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does what you do in an earlier era affect the next?

    • @mattvanweelden1827
      @mattvanweelden1827 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In some ways. You keep all previously acquired adaptations and breakthrough cards, as well as infrastructure. Also, the first player to reach the far edge of the map gets priority starting position next era.

  • @MB-zf8hp
    @MB-zf8hp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Kind of disappointed that you guys put out a full review after so few plays, without trying the full range of player counts (or even the full 3 era game). I share your enthusiasm for the game, but I am not certain regarding replay ability/ staying power. Maybe you could have done first impressions and do your final verdict after a couple more plays.

  • @MrPush3000
    @MrPush3000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The final era of this game is a problem I think. It's very anti-climatic, almost no interaction, and someone can just get completely screwed by tile draw. Not a fan of this for multiplayer, but solo this is a fun game. And once someone gets a good lead, there is no way to catch up to them in that final era.

    • @evildrganymede
      @evildrganymede 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree. The third era plays differently from the first two because of the colonies but Starfarers is way more brain-burny and thinky than the others. I have played it with solo, 2p and 3p and so far I am loving it. The interaction is limited sure, but 3p was a totally different game - in the last two eras it's a race for the adaptation/breakthrough cards and the Edges can really screw over other players. And all the games we've played have been close, with about 10 points between all the players.

    • @ThePlayersAid

      Maybe you'd want to avoid purchasing. I would recommend giving someone else's copy a try. If there's a Euro you might like, it could easily be this one.
