Tom's whiteboards are uncannily tidy... The writing is straight, the density of detail is really even, very uniform use of colors and spacing... Does he have a degree in graphical whiteboard design or something??
"so what do you like most about SU&SD? the thoughtful review? the charm and wit? the welcoming, inclusive environment?" "oh, yeah that stuff's cool too. mainly i like when the grown men eat cubes though"
I like the artistic liberty they are giving to Tom. My guess is that in a few more videos we are going to get some really very weird experimental reviews from him, with drone post rock music, no words at all... only feelings, to convey if a board game is recommended or not
That would honestly be really fun as a semi-joke review. Like take some tiny game and do some kind of interprative dance out of it just to cement tom's place as the most insane boy
Hey Tom, just popping in to let you know what an awesome job you're doing. To be honest, when you first joined su&sd I wasnt so sure about you, but I've seen you grow so much as a TH-camr and reviewer and I love it. You're fantastic; keep doing what you do :)
The fact that you made a Diagnosis Murder reference in the middle of a review of a sci-fi Tech Tree-focused board game is why I love this channel...you guys all make great reviews, with great info, but that also always somehow manage to get me dying laughing in the middle of them... Keep being superb, and I look forward to seeing what you review next!
@@marrioman13 Insane to me that so few parts of the world believe that who is an is not allowed in ones home is up to the government and not the homes owner.
This is one of the best review videos I've seen from this channel. It's wonderful to see Tom grow into this role, and I look forward to more great work from him and the rest of the team.
I’m not sure if Mr Tom Brewster will see this but I would like to congratulate you sir on what is one of the best SU&SD reviews I have seen. Been watching these guys for a few years now and this one knocks it out of the park. Was chuckling the whole way through.
I bought this recently and certainly like it, but I think it's more of a middleweight game than it appears. There are great tactical decisions to be made, but strategically, it basically boils down to either being the stronger player on the tech board or the stronger player on the colonisation board. For more experienced strategy gamers, it might feel like a stool missing a leg. Hoping it sells well enough for an expansion to give another path to victory.
Fantastic review Tom! I discovered this game just yesterday on BGA and have watched a few videos on YT to get a better grasp on how it works. Your review is both informative and highly entertaining!
When I first saw Tom join SUSD I was a bit apprehensive of this newcomer to the excellent wit of the crew. But I believe he has more than made us all fall in love with his personality and charm!
Tom is bringing a lot to these reviews - weirdness, enthusiasm, computer graphics reminiscent of 1990s educational programs, whiteboards - and I’m loving all of it.
A masterful review. Tom just gets funnier and funnier and I think we all appreciate his youthful perspective :D (I'm in my 20s and his humor and reviews speak to me on a spiritual level)
I could tell pretty early on this wasn't my sort of game, however, it's becoming a common theme that a Tom video is ridiculously entertaining, no matter the game!
Dude! Haha I mean this as a compliment, and nothing against any other review (because I like them all) but that might be the best review I've watched since the Crokinole review (my 1st experience with SUASD)! Bravo! Bravo! Jolly good show!
I tried this game on BGA and loved it! The planets map, mentioned in passing in the video, is such a beautifully elegant piece of design! The whole game is beautifully elegant!
The writing and the production value is getting better by the video. I love how the gamefeel reminds of the mouthfeel from Brooklyn 99, but I hate that the crew got a collective haircut while in Canada we are still in lockdown.
Gosh darn it, that was a solid video Tom. I was non-plussed by the very blah art and the "dryness" of BtS, but thanks to your thorough review I think I'll have to give the game a go somewhere online.
Im so tired that I just saw "the best tech tree in games?" and not "beyond the sun review", thinking this video was a list of the best tech trees in games, to which I audibly said "I really like Mothership's tech tree" and then noticed this wasnt a question for me to answer, and that Im alone and need coffee.
Had this game sitting on my shelf for a few months. This review helped get it to the table! We all had a blast! Loved how the tech tree evolving shaped the gameplay. One player pushed military so all the sudden planet hopping became the obvious choice!
I hate this boy and i'm never watching "A TH-cam" again! In all seriousness, I absolutely love the energy Tom brings to the show and have been quite interested in this game for a bit. Good to know it gets the Brewster Seal of Pretty Good Game.
Hey, members of the shut up and sit down team. You guys absolutely have to get a copy of Moonrakers by IV games to play. Its incredible and would make for top tier content!
I really appreciate this video. I've been a bit critical of Tom since I felt he was always doing an impression of Quinns but in this instance I felt he had his own personality. More of this please.
This was a great review, Tom, thank you very much. The way you talk about it makes the game sound interesting. However, I really really wish they could have avoided the boring blank cards blanketed in text. Some artwork to give the game some flavour would have really helped draw in us players who enjoy their spreadsheets just fine but want more images and less thousand words when it comes to games.
Eh. I'm not sure how I feel about Tom liking expansions. That's kind of Quinns' thing. You can't have two characters who like expansions, might as well combine them into a single character. Could call them Tinns.
Ah I LOVE this game. Just the right amount of player interaction, just a nibble of worker placement and area control, and the best tech tree game there is. A little imbalance, particularly for tier 4 luck. But I can't wait for (I HOPE!) expacs.
I love seeing this boy roam free, grazing on whatever scripting or editing satiates him. Let him continue to wander into grander pastures
It has been a fantastic journey watching him grow into his own, hasn't it?
Oh, no no no. I'm not his Mommy
Maybe... but what is happening at 16:11 ?

Look at that subtle colouring. The tasteful thickness. Oh my God. It even has a watermark.
That's a doctorate in whiteboard design thankyou!
Ironically, I suspect he plans them out on paper first.
@@Seryn88 A medical doctorate.
I really really hope Tom just asked the team to record themselves making that face without giving any context.

I can't believe Tom is giving us all these 11/10 Videos.
Tom has gone from the promising new kid on the block to the jewel in SU&SD's crown in record time.
I hope all the suasd crew are doing well, really hope soon we get the multiple people in these skit style reviews like old.

This might be the first time that SU&SD hasn't sold the stock out, because the stock was already sold out.
And now, probably: Preorders for the expan-Sun.
Here's hoping my FLAGS manages to pick up a few in the upcoming reprint.
They did talk about this game in a podcast a good while ago, which might have caused it to sell out.
It’s currently in stock at GameNerdz
Loved this video! Great pacing, just the right amount of “how to play” detail, and lots of wonderful humor.

I'm beginning to think you all at SUSD have an inside joke where you have to fit the word "smorgasbord" into every episode and I'm here for it

Oh man, the Diddy Kong Racing music takes me back
If you had asked me if I remembered any music from it, I would have said no. And yet
Fantastic review Tom! I discovered this game just yesterday on BGA and have watched a few videos on YT to get a better grasp on how it works. Your review is both informative and highly entertaining!
The doctor bit was fantastic
I genuinely laughed out loud. That was the classic SU&SD humor that made me fall in love with the brand.
I love how all of Tom’s reviews can be lined up to watch his slow descent into Pandemic Insanity
16:48 Well right in the feels. Did not hear this music for +-25 years. Was it Diddy Kong racing?
If it's no DKR it was made to sound like it. It's amazing how our brains work! Just a few seconds of the soundtrack can bring soooo many memories!!
Watching Tom's reviews is like watching the SUSD of old, but with his own twist and character - love them!
"Party Popper Sound Effect!" - The delivery on this one line literally couldn't be any better. Magical!@

+1 for subliminal last second Quinns

Is this seriously only your 12th video? It feels like you've been doing this a lot longer than that.
It is remarkable how quickly Tom found his own voice, but I'm sure he at least worked on many of the SUSD videos before he began making his own.
Haha so true, he is hilarious, and also much more comfortable than his first vids. Great new team member
This game has been on my radar. Now it will be sold out, so I don't have to worry about it! Thanks SUSD! :)

Probably not on the shelf much longer...
I love the Diddy Kong Racing music towards the end. I really didn’t expect that 😅
I've watched 1:17 of the video and I already feel this could be my favourite video of all time.
