Yeah I'm inclined to agree. And my French is definitely rustier and less practiced than my german... just something haunting about it in French. And lyrically, sounds more like something a French woman would feel lol. Or really anyone in the post modern world I guess...
This is the 3rd version of this song I've heard lol x3 The English and german versions are sung by marta jandova English is "how far" German is "wie weit"
Lol same. I'm a lot more comfortable in German and my native English, but my linguistic intrigue began with with French. Took three years of it in high school. Was even thinking mostly in French by the time I transfered to German. And this song was coming out right as I entered high school. Wow. Apocalyptica is getting old... or perhaps I'm just projecting.
Sometimes, I begin to feel that very few new things will come up to spark my interest...but then I find a wonderful surprise. Thanks for the great music, and here's to much more!
I've always listened to the german version, which I love so much. Three minutes ago I've found out that there are other two versions of that song: this and the english one. I think my head is going to explode. Ahahha
J'aime beaucoup.
~Here is the English Translation~ "Why make so much turmoil For tomorrows that sound fake Why ask so many questions Must we be so dumb Would it not be enough to see each other A little bit more, a little less bad Would it not be enough to want And the world all gone to war Let's diminish our sorrows Let's finish ourselves for pleasure Let's distill our hate And let's drink to our memories Let's drink to stop lying Let's finish for pleasure And if one day Everything blooms again And by love We remain alive Why leave things up to chance When our dreams loose their memory Must we be so stupid It's the story that's repeating itself Would it not be enough to see each other A little bit more, a little less bad Would it not be enough to want And the world all gone to war Let's diminish our sorrows Let's finish ourselves for pleasure Let's distill our hate And let's drink to our memories Let's diminish our sorrows Let's finish ourselves for pleasure Let's distill our hate And let's drink to stop lying to ourselves Let's drink to our memories Let's finish for pleasure"
Actually there is an english and a german version of this song, but the lyrics are different to the french one :) (English title: "How far" German title: "Wie weit".)
"Pourquoi faire autant d'histoires?/Pour des lendemains qui chantent faux/Pourquoi poser tant de questions?/Faut-il que l'on soit aussi cons/Ne suffirait-il pas de se voir?/Un peu plus un peu moins mal/Ne suffirait-il pas de vouloir?/And the world all gone to war" ... - EXACTEMENT!
If someone had said to me that Apocalyptica did a song in french I wouldn't have believe it... but I like it so much.
I didn't like any English translations of this song so I went ahead and made my own. It's designed to flow similar to the French lyrics. The word I didn't change was cons, I like how it's meaning changes in English to a shorter version of con-artists or convicts instead of just an idiot or asinine person. These lyrics are an attempt to capture the essence of the lyrics and not transliterate like everyone else did while giving it some flow and rhyme. Why should we make up history For glory tomorrow which is false? Why ask so many questions? Should we also be as cons... Do you fail to see? A little more, a little bit better. Should that one not want? And the world's all gone to war Reduce our sorrows, We are united for pleasure. Distill all our hatreds. And drink to what we remember. Let's drink to be candor, Let us unite for pleasure. And if one day, everything blossoms again through love, one remains in life. Why risk all the hazards. When our reverie loses it's memory? Should it be we are so silly? This is history in repeat. Do you fail to see? A little more, a little bit better. Should that one not want? And the world's all gone to war Reduce our sorrows, We are united for pleasure. Distill all our hatreds. And drink to what we remember. Reduce our sorrows, We are united for pleasure. Distill all our hatreds. And drink to what we remember. Let's drink to be candor, Let us unite for pleasure.
OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for a French song that FINALLY DOESN'T STINK UP THE PLACE! :D :D :D :D YAY!!!!!! (P.S. I can translate for anyone that wants me to lol Je suis Franco-Ontarienne :P)
Dark Wolves it's exactly Quutamo. There were four versions of the song: Quutamo, How Far, Wie Weit, and En Vie. I personally like Marta Jandova's vocals on the German version the best.
I wouldn't necessarily judge the song by the quality of sound in the language (justifying the fact that two different singers were layered over the exact same recording). But as much I want this to sound better in German, the French version is just executed in a more mature and experienced fashion. That's all left up to the singer's personal style preference and the French singer's voice just sounds more fitting. It sounds more "dark-theatre" than" rock-venue"
although I hate french, it seems to me that this version sounds better then the german..but putting the lnguage aside, the song is one of my favorites!Apocalyptica rock!
@Muro666 It sounds sort of taunting in my opinion, the french that is. What's the name of the German version? I should give the original a go too, shouldn't I?
I was so freaking scared when I heard the cd and a long time after the last song finished it started as a hidden track. just thought what the fuck, I have to shoot the damn stereo system decepticon :D
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I heard an instrumental only version of this song in my pandora, but now I can't seem to find it. Maybe it was covered by another band?
I heard the three versions (How Far, Wie weit et En vie) and this is the better. Her french voice has the perfect tone for the darkness of this song.
I never knew there are others versions
@@earlgrey243 yeap, Quutamo are an instrumental version of that song.
Yeah I'm inclined to agree. And my French is definitely rustier and less practiced than my german... just something haunting about it in French. And lyrically, sounds more like something a French woman would feel lol. Or really anyone in the post modern world I guess...
Fun thing is we see both faces in each video ( en vie and how far)
On the hooks

This is the 3rd version of this song I've heard lol x3
The English and german versions are sung by marta jandova
English is "how far"
German is "wie weit"
You posted the same under the german version. Which one was now the third? The french or german version?
The instrumental version is called Quutamo
I wonder what it would be Spanish version...
And here is it, one of the best Apocalyptica songs and by extensions best metal songs I know.
Having listened to all three vocal versions of this song I have to say this is my favorite
It's my favourite Apocalyptica song :)
I agree
This song is so mesmerizing.and breathtaking as well. Love it. I almostly cried while listening to it.
First heard it as a hidden track, and I enjoyed it.
Sometimes, I begin to feel that very few new things will come up to spark my interest...but then I find a wonderful surprise. Thanks for the great music, and here's to much more!
I cried with this great song, one word to this: wonderfull.
I personally prefer this version - I like the sound of flow of her voice better, and the lyrics are eerie. I love it.
I've always listened to the german version, which I love so much. Three minutes ago I've found out that there are other two versions of that song: this and the english one. I think my head is going to explode. Ahahha
Worship creates spirit.
i love that song in all three languages!!!!and her voice is really warm and sensuall!!its a really sad song though!!!amazing!
french is my favourite version! ^^ is really sensual and soft, i love it!
J'aime beaucoup.
Quutamo is the instrumental version, there are 4 versions: instrumental, french, english, & german.
French-En Vie
English-How Far
German-Wie Weit
Wow 15 years ago, in my head it was like yesterday
J'adore! C'est tres belle. Elle chante tres bien!
My favorite version
Apocalyptica is awesome!
I find it interesting how the lyrics in this version have a different rhythm than Wie Weit and How Far. It adds a nice touch to it.
Excellent.
~Here is the English Translation~
"Why make so much turmoil
For tomorrows that sound fake
Why ask so many questions
Must we be so dumb
Would it not be enough to see each other
A little bit more, a little less bad
Would it not be enough to want
And the world all gone to war
Let's diminish our sorrows
Let's finish ourselves for pleasure
Let's distill our hate
And let's drink to our memories
Let's drink to stop lying
Let's finish for pleasure
And if one day
Everything blooms again
And by love
We remain alive
Why leave things up to chance
When our dreams loose their memory
Must we be so stupid
It's the story that's repeating itself
Would it not be enough to see each other
A little bit more, a little less bad
Would it not be enough to want
And the world all gone to war
Let's diminish our sorrows
Let's finish ourselves for pleasure
Let's distill our hate
And let's drink to our memories
Let's diminish our sorrows
Let's finish ourselves for pleasure
Let's distill our hate
And let's drink to stop lying to ourselves
Let's drink to our memories
Let's finish for pleasure"
+Emily Rene thank you so much
Actually there is an english and a german version of this song, but the lyrics are different to the french one :) (English title: "How far" German title: "Wie weit".)

"Pourquoi faire autant d'histoires?/Pour des lendemains qui chantent faux/Pourquoi poser tant de questions?/Faut-il que l'on soit aussi cons/Ne suffirait-il pas de se voir?/Un peu plus un peu moins mal/Ne suffirait-il pas de vouloir?/And the world all gone to war" ... - EXACTEMENT!
Réduisons nos peines
Achevons nous pour le plaisir
Distillons nos haines
Et buvons à nos souvenir
Buvons pour ne plus mentir
Achevons nous pour le plaisir
I love this song!
I began to study french to understand its meaning...
If someone had said to me that Apocalyptica did a song in french I wouldn't have believe it... but I like it so much.

"Con" is french for "stupid". Synonym of "bête"
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
i like wie weit, just cuz i can actually understand german but en vie is actually a damn good song too
Thanks I was wondering because I wanted to translate them to English so that I could understand what she was saying

(P.S. I can translate for anyone that wants me to lol Je suis Franco-Ontarienne :P)
This is actually a pretty lulzy video. Love Apo~
It's french buddy. They've also made an English, German, and instrumental version.
Quutamo?
Dark Wolves it's exactly Quutamo. There were four versions of the song: Quutamo, How Far, Wie Weit, and En Vie. I personally like Marta Jandova's vocals on the German version the best.
Wie Weit IS THE BEST SONG ON THE WORLD AND I'LL PROTECT IT FOREVER.

Why are you disabling embedding? Fantastic song. I'd have loved to embed it on my blog...
@Shadowreaper98 It's called "Wie Weit"
Languages are beyond judgement.
en vie= alive ;)
@MarsAurele Merci pour les précisions Mars =) !
although I hate french, it seems to me that this version sounds better then the german..but putting the lnguage aside, the song is one of my favorites!Apocalyptica rock!
2:24
Why does she need to learn tp walk
She already knows how to sing
I mea. Learn TO walk not tp....
Singing does not get you to the shops.
Okay ^^
@kupfiXbutter metal-archives classifies them as 'symphonic heavy metal'
english version is called "how far"
@Muro666
It sounds sort of taunting in my opinion, the french that is. What's the name of the German version? I should give the original a go too, shouldn't I?

That literally happens to me too
her facial expressions are INTENSE! lol but i like the german wie weit more!
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I heard an instrumental only version of this song in my pandora, but now I can't seem to find it. Maybe it was covered by another band?
weird but wonderful!
Great..This ... Video realize singing songs..
I can't believe I stumbled upon this band listening to Pandora...
