- In this episode of What Makes this Game Great? we go all the way back to the NES and look at Mega Man 2.
In the video, I mention the game music. Here is a link to one of my favourites, a modern take on the music from Dr. Wily Stage 1:

Cool. I like how you are taking great games from all time periods.
Exactly! I want this series to talk about the best games from all time periods, not just new games.
The Metal Blades are one of the most powerful weapons in video game history!
And yes, the soundtrack for this game is insanely good. There are covers for pretty much every song in the game. I always liked Quick Man's stage music, but all the music is amazing for its time.
For 8 bit NES music, you cannot go wrong with this game. I should really find out who wrote all these pieces.
Love megaman! Unpopular opinion but my favorites were the first game and the battle network games
Unpopular maybe, but that doesn't mean it isn't valid. I do have to ask though... is the high difficulty level of the first Mega Man what draws you to it? Some folks like a real challenge in their games, and I can't help but wonder if you're someone like that. 😀
@@cultivatedgamer honestly I had the game when I was like 4 back in 93ish and I would play it so much I remembered the levels. I didn't realize until I was an adult and the internet was a thing that it was labeled as the hardest megaman game lol I also played teenage mutant ninja turtles, contra and ninja gaiden where I did the same memory based playthroughs. Those were the games I had to play and we didnt have a lot of money so I still found enjoyment in them even though they were really hard games for a kid to play. As an adult I cant stand intentionally hard games like souls.
@@BrandonBurns89 Well, that totally makes sense. I personally like a challenge, but I don't like it when the difficulty level ruins the fun factor of a game. I have a couple souls games, but I will admit I don't play them very much. :)
I actually dont like this one very much, in fact, i do think 1 is a bit better despite also not being good, i mean you basically had the run n gun right at the first game
Enemies were placed very well in most stages and it made it a blast to go throught cut man and fire man for example.
But megaman 2? It lacks teaching elements despite havinf way too many gimmicks, it keeps hammering them down upon the player in repetition
And it has so many empty screens and badly placed hazards, starting bubble man stage the falling platforms without any proper teaching
The quick lasers in quickman stage that has also no teaching and it keeps repeating throught the entire stage without any variation on the challenge
The fact it take almost 7 screens in metal man stage for them to present the first enemy in the level.
The awful placements and lack of thematic enemies in flash man stage
Its just pretty bad overall,
Air man and wood man stage are the only good stages and then the wily stages happen and the game suddenly becomes a fan game
If the weapons were atleast well balanced...
It took me until megaman 3 to feel like they finally nailed it
I actually did a short of me "playing" the first game. I could like the game except for the horrifying difficulty level. lol
Check it out...
