    Great video! We do let him run off leash - it was a bit nerve-wracking the first time but we went slow and he always comes back (so far!). He is so happy running - he loves ZOOMIES!

    Excellent program 👍👏❤️. The B🎉ST DOGS IN THE WORLD‼️. Intelligent and can understand many words. They are like children and if you are not prepared for this then you should not own one.
    😢They know when it is time for a walk, food etc. use a harness not a collar..

      Hi,
      I live in an area with lots of rabbits and rats, in Cambridge MA. My Italian greyhound gets too excited and I can’t let him off leash since there are also cars etc.
      I did unfortunately, too many times what you recommended not to do, running after him, he started feeling that I am chasing him. Is there any way to reverse that?
      He also gets too excited and is not a big fan of treats when he is in the dog park but loves them during the training at home.

    I still don’t think I’d do this, not because I don’t trust my dog but because I don’t trust other humans or other dog owners…. I’ve met so many people who own big dogs that don’t understand that their dogs’ prey drive gets activated and instead of them chasing another dog (which is play) the bigger dogs instincts say “rabbit…. Kill the prey.” It’s not necessarily their fault but because they might not smell him at first their instincts and prey drive kick in before they smell him and realize he’s a dog. I’d want my dog within 20-30 yds of me all the time…. It just takes one time, and one irresponsible big dog owner that can’t read their dog…. And boom, broken legs and lethal bites and punctured lungs….. to me…. Not worth it… if it’s not fenced in and small enough that I could get to him in 10-15 seconds…. I just can’t imagine doing that

    • @thelifeofnello
      @thelifeofnello  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well as I said in the video, if you don’t feel comfortable doing it, don’t do it. Running is one of an iggy‘s biggest joys in life and therefore I want to restrict that as little as possible. When I see dogs that are a potential risk I call Nello back of course 😊

    I live near a busy highway. And I too, have trained them to be off leash and they never run away. Treats work well for training
    I have a special whistle (tune) that they recognize

    You mentioned puberty and said some iggies forget everything they have learned at this time. Did you mean this literally, or did you mean to imply that they won’t listen to you because they’re obeying their other instincts (to mate) rather than you?

    • @thelifeofnello
      @thelifeofnello  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it‘s a little bit of both. I‘ve experienced some dogs don‘t remember the most simple things you‘ve taught them. It might take them longer to respond to commands or some even forget them completely. Recall, what is that? Or all of a sudden they get scared of the weirdest things, like trash cans for example 😅 But just stick to your training routine - it will pass 😊

    It's all fine until your dog gets attacked by another off leash dog or your sighthound chases down prey. Never let your sighthound off leash in an open area.
