2023 is an absolutely stacked year, but I gotta give it to Gollum.
Either Gollum or Greyhill Incident! We have been so blessed with so many bangers.
Nah bro king kong was much better
Gollum was my fav until Walking Dead Destinies came out last week
Idk Walking Dead Destinies might give Gollum a run for it’s money.
@@nickbrown801 true, especially when it comes to cutscenes and face animations The Walking Dead destroys the competition
That open scene in Ghost of Tsushima, riding through the tall grass, the music swells just right right. Still gives me goosebumps.
Same. It gives me goosebumps every time
For amazing music (and music that changes as you roam and engage with the world) I recommend trying NieR:Automata.
That's easily the best done dynamic soundtrack in gaming.
43 songs, almost every one of them has 3 variations (quiet, medium, dynamic) and there's vocals and no vocals versions. So most songs have 6 versions.
Doesn't stop there, the game has an algorithm that can convert any of its songs into 8-bit versions on the fly. So there can be 7 versions of 1 song.
Then theres a few songs that have "become as gods" and "this cannot continue" mixes.
The official ost says 43 songs, but if you include all versions of the songs there's probably closer to 150-200 songs in the game. All of which can be played in-game in the resistance camp with the jukebox.
Very very different kind of music from ghost of tsushima(sci fi), but the quality is unmatched and I think you'll enjoy it.
Just started this game on PS5. I found the opening scene extremely dull and uninspiring. Just would have skipped the scenes if was allowed to. Riding through the tall grass was nice, combat of this game feels absolutely excellent (easily the best part). But acting, character design, boring side and main quests.... I just find it really grindy.
Ghost of Tsushima is game of the ever for me
The charm this game has is better than any game I’ve ever experienced. They made fetch quests actually worth doing because the world building was 10/10. Great story, epic mp mode and very good dlc. One of the best games I’ve ever played. Fuck it got me into photo mode ffs
Jake you totally should keep going. Take it all the way to 2003. One of my favorite things to do is be reminded of great games of the past. Like the last of us came out ten years ago! Wow!
maybe do a decade by decade version
Absolutely. The 2000s had some stacked years. That 05 - 08 stretch was magic.
Oh yeah! Great idea
@@SevCaswellmaybe in 20 years
From the last decade, my top game is without a doubt RDR2 !! I can go back to it any day, spend the entire day on it , and still feel that immersion, that excitement. I'll never stop enjoy this game
Facts
i respect that but for me it got so boring so quickly that i quit as soon as i finished chapter 6
@KadUnionhorizon L
@KadUnionyeah it is
waiting for 60fps before I play it 😢
I would pay to watch the GR crew deliberate for 8 hours on GOTY. Imagine Falcon with a mask during the debate 😂.
Wait, that's not his real head?
Love that Falcon...awesome persona
Falcon would literally be on a zoom call only showing the falcon head 😂😂😂
@@fabrislemosfor me, the Falcon image is canon.
@@fabrislemoswell he is at least bald as a Falcon
Sekiro was also an awesome game in 2019.
Best combat so far in any souls like
Best combat if you like to deflect until you have no more fingers. Otherwise, the worst combat in any soulslike.
weird to chose control over it if their staff liked dark souls 2
@@pomelomarino7710 Tell me you don't know how to play sekiro
@@pomelomarino7710 skill issue
@ryanshoults123 Be nice now y'all! He can't deflect all that 🥹
I love Jake...dude stops himself and doesn't spoil a 2 year old game in Metroid Dread...yet Falcon just goes and says random bits about a game that came out like a month ago. Appreciate you Jake :) love that thoughtfulness.
Yeah, there are some people who think 6 months after a game being released can be spoiled completely. Probably people who aren't busy and spend all their money on games/pre-orders.
I much prefer Jake to Falcon, cause Falcon rambles on about things and tries to be funny whereas Jake just gives us all the relevant information whilst being as spoiler free as possible.
Yeah Falcon sucks and often sounds like he doesn't wanna be there
@@nikelas6 Well shit, I love them both. Gamreranx is the only gaming channel I even follow anymore.
which game was that?
My only thought would be in 2019 and it being Sekiro. That game was built to perfection and even though it had a large gap in figuring out the gameplay but once you did it was like dancing with swords. The timing, cadence, rhythm of the battles; amazing boss fights, the character arc and story was built flawlessly, to the incredible boss fights. I know most people will say bloodborne but I will die on this hill that sekiro is the greatest fromsoft game ever made!!
Yuh and 2021 is easily Returnal. Hard games are not being acknowledged in the later years
I should try it again. I’ve bought the odd game, started playing and quit because I wasn’t enjoying them and just “going through the motions.” But in 20 years of gaming I can honestly say that Sekiro was the first that I quit because I found it mechanically too difficult. I just couldn’t get my parry down. Lol
@@carpediem6431 I would definitely suggest trying it again; use genichiro in the castle as a practice dummy, because he is the first (outside of optional madame butterfly) that plays like how the game should be played and can be used to master parry. The way to get used to parrying for someone trying to get used to it is hold block the entire time and when you see a strike coming then tap block again, by holding block you are able to take more hits, your posture is going to rise quickly but you’re not at risk of just getting chopped down immediately, then once you have that down you can move to not having block held the whole time; ALSO a MUST is to unlock mekiri counter!!!!!
It is a masterpiece - totally agree with you.
lol I do totally prefer blood borne but sekiro is equal and sword saint iishin is my fav boss fight
Control is one of my favourite games of the decade. Has an original story and setting, great gameplay and physics, and is very stylish. I instantly felt like I was playing one of those old school 3rd person PC shooters, like MDK, but with a much more modern feel. Remedy is such a solid studio, I've loved their games since the original Max Payne
$10 for the ultimate edition on series X right now
Control and Hellblade are the only games I've felt like getting 100% on in years.
I really loved the experience too! cool combat and unique concept!
Am I the only one who felt control is boring? I mean other than the bosses, the rest of the fights and levels felt pretty mediocre to me.
@@gokuafricano you are not , some channels even mention it in the worst games of 2019 category, I don't get why gameranx praise it so much , it can be good for some people but goty level ? absolutely not
Control needs more voice from big people, such an amazing game that went under the radar.
Hopefully AW2 will kickoff some interest with the Remedy Connected Universe.
Nah
👆🏻
I’m playing through it right now on series x and it’s amazing.
No it didn’t. Control is the game that put remedy on the map. The game sold over 3 millions copies and was nominated for a slew of awards. Including winning a game award and a BAFTA award.
Alan wake 2 is great and I can't wait for the max payne duology remake.
I truly loved Ghosts of Tsushima and after I’d finished it it gave me a feeling I hadn’t felt for a long time (having played games for 30 years) although I can’t explain why. It’s in my top 5 all time favourites.
Same, I really love the game. It will always be one of my favorites
What are your other favorites?
Same here 40years of gaming and ghost of tsushima is in my top 3. Now maybe baldurs Gate 3 at 1. Farcry 3 at 2. I also liked AC origins, tropico 6, rdr 1 and gta v.
Ik what you’re talking about. Had the same thing with BoTW a few years ago and something else, very unique, when I played ToTK.
With Tears I took my time, avoided teleportation as much as I could, tried to make Link wear clothing that felt the most appropriate without repeating too much and … wow.
It took my about 5-6 months to beat it and when I did it felt impactful.
I got Ghost of Tsushima a few months ago but I’m waiting till next year to play it so I can enjoy it more
No need for explanation….. anyone that has played would know it’s one of the best games ever!!
I love all the love you guys give to Control. Such a gem and one of my favourite games !

It's one of the most overrated games in recent years. Not bad but I honestly don't get all the hype.
Rewarded with a gameranx video for being up early. Appreciate all the content y’all!
🤝
Control is amazing and a weird note for me was it’s one of the best sounding games. From gunplay to scrolling through the menus.
Ghost of tsushima was truly a masterpiece
I appreciate you guys for doing this for so long. I may have only started watching your videos frequently in 2022, but i always enjoy the content
Glad Ghost of Tsushima was on the list! Great game hands down!
Love Ghost Of Tsushima. In my top 2 favorite games of all time. Really enjoyed playing that on Lethal + with broken armor and a couple perks. 🙌🏾🥷
I hope they make a sequel
@@DarksideRTwhat's the other one

Seeing this makes me want to see a series of videos discussing each year individually. There are so many games you simply forget about!
Yeah, good idea - that would be really interesting!
They already do that with single player games.
I Just included Metroid Dread in a Switch top 10 list of my own! It truly is an an amazing side-scroller, proving that it's still a solid genre. All these choices are excellent, all faves of mine! Thanks for another awesome video guys!
I still play Ghost of Tsushima to this day, I platinumed it a while ago and I’m recently did new game plus and left most the side activities for stuff to do after the story, just finished the dlc story and now just have all the side material, I absolutely love the game, one of the most memorable games in recent years
Same, I still play it to this day. I finished the DLC recently, it was so worth it. I love the game so much, it will always be one of my favorite games. The DLC is now one of my favorite things about it. Iki Island is amazing
Control definitely is a masterpiece, glad to see it here.
Personally, its a tie between Arkham Knight and Witcher 3 for me for 2015 , but Witcher 3 wins in terms of story, Arkham Knight wins in terms of gameplay mechanics (the cape physics was mindblowing).
If you tried arguing GOTY for Arkham Knight in 2015 you would be bullied lol. The game really has aged well and I've always loved it despite the initial criticism it received.
True
Batman Arkham Knight and Bloodborne both blow TW3 out of the water. CD Projekt Red is the Marvel Comics of games.
Bloodborne for me by far
@@timeup2549So great?
Control is masterpiece and love it. I have all the games in this list. I have such big game collections but above all Control has special place in my heart. Thanks jake, great video mate.
Love this video! Kinda wish it was 30min. Long and you talked about runner ups from those years
Personal fav was Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy and the machines in a beautiful post apocalyptic vista blew me away.
I wish more period piece games would come out. Rdr2 is my favourite game ever because of the well crafted story and the excellent setting. I hope companies like rockstar continue to make these style games because I would love to see another game that takes place in the 40s, like an LA Noire 2, a WW1 game, maybe with Jack marston, or any game that can nail the atmosphere and characters of whatever time period as well as games like red dead and La noire have done.
@@ryanshoults123You’re a bunch of Cannucks
@@ryanshoults123 riding that bandwagon I see. I've experienced all the ups and the quite depressing downs for a long time, like a true fan.
You may want to check out the Alone In The Dark rebbot =)
@@MaxRamos8 Thanks for the recommendation
Same! I loved rdr2 so much! It's the reason why I eventually bought a ps4 when I wasn't really ever planning on getting one originally. And I never regretted it for a second! 😅
Ghost of Tsushima is my favorite game ever, literally everything about it is perfect
Same. I will always love that game
Man, I'm not a big fan of Ghost of Tsushima even though I'm weeb, but objectively speaking I admit that game is one of the best games ever made. They did so many things so well there. If not for Sekiro I would give GoT the best samurai game out there.
@@plipplop728Sekiro is a ninja
I loved GoT but cmon its got some flaws. Stealth sucks, especially considering its supposed to be tied in to the story, and it definitely suffered from open world filler/busy work, idk why everyone always claims it doesn. 49 fox dens were ridiculous...
@@Frost4RealNah, if you think fox den is crazy you should see riddler trophies on arkham games
Wow, looking at this and how many years you've been putting up videos, would love to see a journey of Gameranx
2014 for me Shadow of Mordor no doubt. One of the best and fun games I have ever played. Story is awesome. Enviorement is awesome. Characters are awesome. The nemesis system was just special. Everything about that game was great. Still has a special place in my heart.
I'm so glad you mentioned it 💗
how did read dead 2 lose to god of war lol cmon now
It’s a funnier game. That’s all that really matters
You talk, but even you didn't get it's name right. Self-indicative at that point.
I love both , but God of War just a little bit more..
That's kinda true tho
“How did read dead 2 lost to god of war”? Doesn’t make any sense 😂
Ashtray maze is still my single favorite level in any video ever. I love it so much I even jam out to the song “Take Control” while cleaning or something.
Along with the Ride over Rio Grande in RDR1, it is one of the most impactful video game scenes I can remember even experiencing.
@@oscarn- I never really got into RDR 1 or 2 (i know its criminal), I have a huge backlog of games I just haven’t been able to get to as Im a single parent and cant game all the time so I have to really choose which ones to focus on. But aside from the Ashtray maze my second favorite level is also a Remedy game, the new Alan Wake im fact with a certain musical number performed during a level, it was freaking wild and I loved it.
Think my top 10 would be
2022: god of war ragnarok
2021: forza horizon 5
2020: Last of us 2
2019: metro exodus
2018: marval spiderman
2017: wolfenstein 2
2016: uncharted 4
2015: witcher 3
2014: far cry 4
2013: gta 5
FINALLY someone said metro exodus
Great topic Gameranx!
2018 was so stacked between gow, Sekiro, and rdr2. It was impossible for everyone to be happy, but each of those communities is still proving how deserving each one was
Sekiro came out in 2019
@@nathanflacke5904 wait you're so right
Between a 'rail' boring game like GoW and a masterpiece like RdR2, it's easy...
@XxKidnoffxX between a horse riding simulator like rdr2 and an action game with deep combat system and great story like gow its easy
@@thelegandgamer2830 we can walk on foot in rdr2. And its better than a rail game with corridor where every move you do is what developpers want... With the combat too arcade and pathetic.
For me, Dragon Age Inquisition was the best game the year it came out. It brought the series back from the dead, and made me fall in love with that world again.
Control was the first game I played that didn’t have a difficulty level option. What an amazing and satisfying game to play. One of my top 5 fav
Would love a part 2!
I don't know why the idea of 2013 being 10 years ago bothers me. But it does 🤣
Don’t worry it bothers me too 😭 it’s just a scary thought
It’s always weird hearing your name said correctly Gameranx, when I’ve always pronounced it Gamer Anx. Love the channel whatever it’s called.
Nice list. Now I am happy that we have so many fun games to play. Specially campaign or single player games.
Good to see Control is still getting some recognition.
Such an awesome game I got the platinum a couple weeks ago
aaand its on sale till tommorrow along with Disco Elysium, another banger!
i played demon souls back in 2010 in my friends apartment while he was working. I stayed there for a week when finding this game. Now years later i have completed all the dark souls games and elden ring was my fauvorite. if anyone is to experience elden ring like i experienced demon souls they are blessed!
dark souls 3 better than Elden ping
@@andrerocha3998 dark souls 2 is better than dark souls 3
@@KABLAMMATS whattttt? nooooooooo big nooooo
@@andrerocha3998 I dont know. I love Dark Souls 3 and it was excellent but also feel like a compilation of previous Dark Souls for pleasing fans. And the game world was very linear and not surprising, compared to the brilliant level design of Dark Souls 1 or atmosphere.
While Elden Ring completely shocked me again and gave me back the same sense of exploration and immersion as DS 1 or Bloodborne. An experience I'll never forget.
I am currently playing BotW. It is the first Zelda game I've ever played and it's mesmerizing. With this and Odyssey really worth deciding to get the Switch.
I am looking forward to playing Control.
I agree with a lot of your picks on your list. For 2023 (which was very hard to choose) I'm going to say for me it was Resident Evil 4 Remake with a close second going to The Legend Of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom
Would love to see this format but for underrated games.
Only difference I would have made is because I'm not a soulslike fan and because it already got a slot with the well deserved elden ring, I would have marked Shadow Of Mordor GOTY for that year. The Nemesis system is just too much of a juicy beaut. Plus running around stabbing orcs *never* got old. It was pure simple fun that Shadow of war really expanded on.
My game of all times is Elden Ring. Granted, it was one of my first games I played after 30+ years of doing other things so there was a "first love" thing going on. It is just so wonderful and captivating. I hope there will be another game that I'll love that much.
Liked the video, maybe make one with the close second games of each year??
I love Control!!! I'm glad it's getting the recognition it deserves! Fun innovative game play! It's unique and amazing! Best game of 2019! It's Challenging like a souls game. The enemies hit like a tank! The most difficult game I have completed 100 percent.
I liked The Last of Us Part II. But Final Fantasy VII Remake was Game of the Year for me!
I do know though that there were a lot of people that just saw that the game killed off Joel, and people got mad because of it. But I see what they were trying to show people, and so many people missed the point….
I think two things would’ve helped had they of done things differently. One, we should’ve played as Abby way longer before she killed off Joel, and two, as bad as it sounds. But I’d be willing to bet money that if they would’ve made her more attractive, and not this hulking man. Then people would’ve been more sympathetic to her and her story, and would’ve been more understanding.
I honestly got over joel dying, I just didn't find abby or the story overall that appealing, I got the point as it was a simple point honestly and it had great moments and some...questionable ones but personally I preferred Ghost of Tsushima far more than tlou2 from the world to the characters to the story
@@gamestar6479 I just really enjoyed the gameplay and combat! I didn’t mind the story, I don’t think it was as good as the first game. But I felt like it was still pretty good.
I honestly think certain parts of the game did horror better than a lot of actual horror games. Which I really appreciated!
@@gamestar6479 Yeah same I really love Ghost of Tsushima
Honestly, infamous is a slept on series, I loved second son, and it was my first platinum
great list as always Jake
I'm excited for the control sequel
.control is one of the best games I've ever played. I platinumed it on both the ps4 and 5 I liked it that much
For me it just HAS to be BG3. After finishing that game 2 times and finally moving to other games, it literally made them feel redundant in sooo many ways! I really struggled to get back into the norm of gaming afterwards! Never felt that way before
I have the same feeling. Nothing so far hits the quality in terms of voice acting, facial animations, in-depth characters, and freedom. And its so obvious that its pretty hard to get into the story and gameplay of the games.
play spider man 2
@@king_kb6700 i finished it and was a bit disappointed. not goty.
i cant imagine myself liking a top-down, turn based game, especially when i dont play dnd. I'd imagine it feels like a boardgame, right? Sort of already tried that with tiny tina's wonderlands, was not a fan
@@SuryaGupta-te7fq I've never played D&D myself and I absolutely loved it. Then again i enjoy Turn-based combat. It actually doesn't feel like a board game at all. You really get immersed in the story and the world and can go anywhere. As you basically roam free while clicking, which happens in a lot of games. And you van zoom in pretty far. Only combat is forced turn-based.
2013 for me its Bioshock Infinite, love the other two games but that one is special.
hi great video. question real quick. whats the games @ 1:56? it looks like an rts or something. thanks for the help
It's Age of Empires IV
Control is so good. Especially the maze with the music. Im still paying it right now.
Shadow of mordor was my shyt💯 i loved the brutality it had. It reminded me of batman arkham knight and to me thats one of the best games ive played to this day. I can only wish for a port to the new gens at this point
I agree with your group choices. I may need to go back to Metroid Dread and give it a fresh look.
GOTY award for 2023 should imo go to Baldur´s gate 3. That game is so amazing.
Nah Alan Wake 2 deserves it more than BG3 IMO. Don't care if BG3 is more popular, Alan Wake 2 is more inventive and original
@@jimmythegamer2231 lmao the only thing good about that game is the graphic , boring as fuck
@@andreadws7151I think Alan Wake 2 still better than any of shitty horror zombie's game out there.. AW 2 became boring for some people because not so many of them can understand it's storyline.. I think AW 2 still get 9/10.. the only downside about the game is the highly demanding hardware requirements..
@@jimmythegamer2231Insane take. Alan Wake 2 isn’t even the best horror game this year.
@@jimmythegamer2231this is coming from someone who really liked AW2 - BG3 is as envelope pushing as AW2. Imo both of them deserve to be there for their writing alone.
We need top 3 video games from each year 2000-2023 Please gameranx make it happen ! Much love
I’m sure you guys get it all the time, but these videos are extremely appreciated and out of all of it. I appreciate your honesty. Thank you.
Very cool list! Dark Souls 2 was _not_ my favorite Souls game but whatever year it released, it definitely would have still made Game of the Year for me!
I am late to the game (pun!) on GoT, only started playing this year. But I can say the game is solid in terms of graphics even three years later. Also, the cultural, architectural, ecological references in the game is spot on, as the farmhouses look exactly as they do in Japan. I've been to numerous pagodas in Japan and again, spot on.
Control was just awesome. Picking up forklifts with your mind and hurling them at enemies and just flat out floating.
I am glad to see Darks souls 2 getting some love, it wasn't perfect, I hade my own gripes with it, but at the end of the day I think it still deserves to stand proudly next to all the other souls games, not to be looked down on. Also I understand why Sekiro is not in this list, it would make this video essentially From Software top 10, but such refined combat is still unmatched in my opinion and set a goal for anyone who wants to make a great and challenging action game.
Yes, i love ds2
@@hyper0505 Me 2 bro. This would have ben a Fromsoft list if they actually stood true to what was really the best games each year.
I think sekiro is far superior to any souls games in terms of combat. It’s so clean and satisfying.
@@tyler2102... if you look at it without build variety and different ways you can approach combat and focus only on the combat flow itself... than definitely yes. Otherwise it's highly debatable.
@@AlexCatable build variety lol souls involve picking either a slow weapon a fast weapon or magic. That’s about all your build variety, stop dribbling nonsense.
I would've loved to see this list from you guys but just very quickly mentioning the 2nd and 3rd runner up for each year. Still great though!
I just recently purchased a PS5 and completed God of War Ragnarok 100% complete. I loved the storyline, the graphics, and the game. This is the only game I own, and I am looking to purchase more games.
I quit Warcraft because of the aimlessly farming and grinding and cash to play. The game got old and felt like a constant grind and farm machine with no end. I was debating on purchasing Diablo 4 ( I've read D4 is a cash grab and aimlessly farming, no clue) Witcher 3, Lies of P, Elden Ring, Ghost of Tsushima, Jedi Survivor, and Baldurs Gate.. Any suggestions, and is Playstation Plus mandatory or worth it?
Witcher 3 is a must play, and for PS Plus, if you subscribe to the upper tiers of it you get an enormous game catalogue that is only getting bigger. I’d say it’s worth it if you see games you would like to play on the list.
@mitchscott8394 Ty sir, just bought the Wircher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition for $14.99 😆 and Star Wars Survivor with the Deluxe Digital upgrade for $40 and $15 for the upgrade 😀
If Days Gone is still on ps plus such a good game!
RDR2 was such a banger. I wish they'd cared to build out and support RDO.
2017 what a crazy year for gaming! Persona 5 was my personal GOTY. Nier Automata runner-up
Funny, I would have expected a different pick from someone with your profile picture...
That would have been my pick, btw.
Honestly in everything but exploration they were better than BtoW and Horizon wich were the most awarded games of 2017
but you know how it is nowadays open world gets all the hype and help
We JRPGs lovers are really a minority here 😂. GR teams very rarely gushing about jrpgs, and there's not many comments (and likes) about them from the community either, oh well..
@@DarkprosperHollow knight is my fav game of all time(more than fromsoft games) , but that doesn't mean it is goty. It had it's flaws
I so need a video on the years that were stacked with good games and then branch from that video to a detailed analysis of what games made that year great
Maybe too much to ask for... i dont know
Great Choices, I can't rock with Metroid Dread as 2021 Goty over Guardians of the Galaxy or Ratchet & Clank but it's better than It Takes Two which is certainly not Goty in 2021. Happy to see Control on here, everyone should play it as a Goty should be, for nearly every gamer. Cheers Gameranx.
I feel like 2023, 2017, and 2018 were really highlight years for gaming.
2018 is overrated let’s be real here
@@YesNo-yl6ws Agreed. The only good thing was RDR 2 and maybe Hitman 2....
@@bobtom1495 Yeah, I would say God of War, Spider-Man and Detroit Become Human too. But that’s only 5 games. I guess Forza Horizon 4, Far Cry 5 and Monster Hunter World were cool.
@@YesNo-yl6ws My favorite game of 2018 is X4 foundations (and it's my all time favorite game ever). I loved Detroit Become Human and spiderman, and MHW (I played today lol). But Rdr2 is a masterpiece, technically, visually, story, music... Everything, it's a real masterpiece.
Sure BOTW is a masterpiece, but NieR Automata deserves the GOTY title much more for me
Agreed.
Can you please do a list of amazing moments in games ( such as the opening sequence of Ghost of Tsushima or the Ashtray maze in Control ). I really want to see how many mutual we will have
Loved Shadow of Mordor, I want more tbh. Nemesis system was phenomenal
I actually disagree pretty strongly that Ghost of Tsushima seems like a typical open-world game at first. I feel like the first hour of that game beats you over the head with the fact that you're experiencing something special. It did for me, anyway.

Control is a masterpiece! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Honestly love watching these everyday
Witcher 3, RDR2 and Breath of the Wild are my games of the decade. I can't choose between the 3, they're tied
In Control if you read the stuff through out the game you come to find out that the gun you acquire shape shifts and was apparently excalibur and mjolnir and i think there was some other weapon but i can't remember what now. It totally made the gun feel that much more badass haha
Glad to see Ghost of Tsushima and RDR2 get their due respect
Two amazing games. I love them both
I'm surprised how you didn't pick It Takes Two. Such an big gamble and great delivery
You're not wrong about Control. Currently playing it after accidentally stumbling upon it. Glad I did, it's everything you say it is.
I think you guys at Gameranx are amazing, but I got different games for every year bar one.
2022: God of War: Ragnarök
2021: Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
2020: Last of Us Part 2
2019: Borderlands 3 (admittedly, this was a slow year for me)
2018: Marvel's Spider-man
2017: Horizon Zero Dawn
2016: Uncharted 4
2015: Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
2014: Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
2013: Bioshock Infinite
Metroid Dread selling well is great news. That's a series that really needs a game every 3 years or so. It's criminal they ignored it for so long.
It got games, people just didn't like them. There was the 3DS new game and the remake. With those two it didn't really miss the 3 year average
I’d like to see gameranx do a video on the top 10 games that changed the gaming industry… games that set new standards for their respective genres. Ex the Witcher 3 set the standard for making interesting side quests
I love that you guys gave metroid dread attention, it's really not talked about enough IMO
You guys shld do a part 2 for 2nd place! Maybe even part 3, 4?! Wld be interesting
Agreed with yall on so many of these lol
• Ghost of Tsushima- absolutely
• Control- Obviously
• Red Dead 2- Unquestionably
• DOOM 2016- Legendary
• Witcher 3- Flawlessness
• The Last of Us- Iconic
great video i hope you do more of these
2022- GOW Ragnarok : Elden Ring was great but GOWR just scratched an itch especially with the characters and how the story cilmaxes.
2021- RE: Viilage : Simply fun its actually one of my favourite games despite the flaws and the writing being pretty meh at best
2020- Doom Eternal: Was genuinely surprised with this because i thought it would a copy paste of Doom 16 but for me it advances the doom formula in all the right ways
2019- Sekiro: Probably the best combat in any game for me. Really love what from soft did with a more story focused souls game
2018- RDR2: Combat can feel repeititve at times but the level of detail and story are exquisite.
2017- P5: Loved the story and turnbased combat never felt so fresh prior or since this game (although BG3 is close)
2016- Uuncharted 4: Great linear game and the climax was amazing and the acting overall was so good
2015: The Witcher 3: probably my favourite game of all time. Was looking forward to it like no other game because witcher 2 really changed how i viewed games.
2014: South Park Stick of Truth: weak year imo but this would have been a contender in a strong year because the writing was so good; couldnt really sink my teeth into Inquisition even though i tried which was a game of the year contender at the time
2013: Last of Us although i've only played the remake directly. I thought the storytelling and acting again were very strong. Other than that game Bioshock infinite was also really good.
Skyrim? God of war? Horizon? Not even a honorable mention?
Glad to see Control getting some publicity!
I played AC Origins a lot a lot. Also DayZ. And Tomb Raider games. Horizon Forbidden West. Farcry 5. Fallout. Resident Evil games. RDR2. The Witcher 3 ofc. 2023 was a big year for gaming but i cannot say i have a huge favorite yet.
the best thing about elden ring is how not empty it feels, all other open world games feel super empty
Ghost is one the best games I've ever played. You couldn't tell me I wasn't Japanese for those 50 hours. The way it brought the culture to life was on some next level sh*t.
I like this channel because of how unbiased they are and how fresh their videos are. great video
Loved control. Great game hands down glad it’s on this list
2022: I played Elden Ring on release and I had a really good time. Good enough to get the platinum twice, but for me it was either A plague Tale: Requiem, because I LOVED the story or Shredder's Revenge, because I've been a Turtles fan for all my life.
2021: Sadly I still haven't played Metroid Dread, but I'm confident that at some point, when I have the money, the time and the motivation to jump into an old genre of mine once more, that I'll finally do it.
2020: Nothing to add here. Ghost of Tsushima was my choice too.
2019: Nothing to add here either. Control was great.
2018: My game of this year was Spider-Man. I can see the appeal of RDR2 and it looks like it has a great story and pretty much everything that a GOTY needs, but I have not played it yet, because I'm a trophy hunter and knowing that it'll take me like 200h to get the platinum as prevented me from giving it a try. Not a smart choice on my part, but it is what it is.
2017: Lots of amazing games, but for me it was retroactively RE7, because I only played it like 2 weeks ago. The characters, the atmosphere and baically everything was top notch for me. It has a few flaws here and there, but this is what Resident Evil is all about in my opinion.
2016: Again, lots of great games (Doom, Stardew Valley, Dishonred 2, Uncharted 4, Dark Souls 3 just to name a few), but for me it was Persona 5.
2015: Witcher 3, no questions asked. It's a game that I don't play too often, maybe every 3-5 years or so, but when I do I'll spend AT LEAST 100 hours on it, so yeah - quality work and a guarantor for a good time.
2014: I LOVE the Dark Souls series but I also enjoyed Evil Within, so it's a bit tough to say, but I'd probably give it to Dark Souls 2. For all its flaws it also offers a lot of good stuff.
2013: I never played the PS3 version, but it'd be a no-brainer for me to choose Last of Us, because let's be honest - the first game was great. Rough around the edges here and there, but the story is what really carried the game to all its awards.
If I'd take it out of the equation I'd probably choose Bioshock Infinite, because I finally played it after an emberassingly long time of having no idea what all the fuss about Bioshock games is about and it was a great experience. Again, I only played the PS4 version though, so I'll stick with Last of Us, because I haven't played any of the games in the year they were released.
Dark Souls 2 is not my favorite souls title, but it really was a coin flip in 2014 between DS2 and Bayonetta 2; it was a mid year for gaming
It was a mid year for Playstation and Xbox, but a great year for Nintendo: Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, and Mario Kart 8....
Not mid just the worst year of the 2010s by far
