Their acting and responses are so smooth and natural, as opposed to some of the acting in those times. And the way he says "Good!" At 2:01 just melts my heart, so endearing🌸 apart from all that rogue bravado, Cal was such a misunderstood sweetheart💕
My niece visited Fairmont Indiana and his grave.(she lived in Indianapolis) I always wanted to go there(I lived in Pa)..I remember when he died (iwas almost 12)my neighbor told me ..I thought he was so handsome and just the greatest actor and many were sad when he died..just loved “Rebel without a cause”…”east of Eden” and Giant…
I think we are lucky to have "East of Eden" still available today to showcase the wonderful actors who were in it. James, of course, died much too early,but we were graced with Miss Harris for a much longer time.I would have enjoyed lunch with her very much, just to get a glimpse of her personality. She was a powerhouse as an actress.

Kazan talked a lot about there off-screen chemistry. He knew what he was doing, this was Dean's first big part and he needed somebody to keep him steady. Harris talked about her first meaning with dean and how they took a drive in his sports car.
Just a perfect interaction between 2 people. Love watching Abra with Cal. She is herself, maybe a bit mischievous and flirtatious with Cal. She was a different woman around his brother. I felt that she was herself, who she wanted to be. The scene where she begs Cal's father to tell Cal he loved him, that if he didn't, Cal could never be a real man. Finally confessing to him her love for Cal. But without him knowing he was loved, he would never love anyone, and she wanted his love. Just heartbreaking.

I didn't get why people thought he was attractive...until this scene. I understood the charm and that iconic twinkle in his eyes. I particularly love his smile and laugh and his dimples. :)
I don't think Dean would ever play another character with that dimension. Cal looks like an angel, but we know there is something imperfect about him, which only a psychoanalyst or a serious theologian can explain. Maybe it's his humanity or maybe he's one of the seven fallen angels.
Well, it helps having a great rich novel to take material out of. Steinbeck’s book is a beast of a story. An epic even. Although I’d argue Jimmy always chose interesting roles
