Many thanks for your research on Dean, and for the entertaining account you give of his all-too-short life. Like TH-cam content, film is primarily a visual medium. When this emphasis on exteriority is coupled to profit motive, all manner of unsavory things occur due to human nature. Greed plus vanity is a deeply flawed combination, which is why so many talented people choose to leave the Hollywood scene and return to a place of relative sanity before they lose their own mind and/or soul. My 1988 high-school art teacher was from Marion, IN & went to school with James Dean. He said Dean was a couple years older & would chase him home & beat him up sometimes in grade school. By High School they had become friends and he would run into him at parties or other get togethers. He said that Dean would do odd things out of the blue sometimes. He would be in a conversation with a group at a party, disappear for a few hours, come back & never say a word about where he'd gone or what he'd done. He said he wasn't an actor and that was just him being himself on screen. He didn't remember him being into drama until they heard a Hollywood Talent Scout would be attending the Senior play. James Dean was quite the eccentric and interesting dude indeed. James Dean along with Marlon Brando and others were some of the first actors who brought the Method Acting genre to the Hollywood screen. James Dean was allegedly bipolar which also has insomnia as a symptom of the illness. Even James Dean's fashion sense is timeless and we can see pockets of it today.
Marlon Brando treated Dean like crap, to the extent that he tortured him sexually (apparently he would put out cigarettes on Dean's back). I'm sure James was delighted though.
He showed up at Pier's wedding at the church, and a marriage application was found in his place after he died with both their names on it. She died young also missing him to the end of her days. Her family pressured her to stay away from Dean.
I love what you say about casting spells with your words, and to rebuke words that have been said against you….that’s great advice to live by. A very classy video ❤
THANK YOU. Lady you know your audience. I paused after the intro to write this. Im a gay man myself and my gay godfather always told me about a lot of old Hollywood being V V gender fluid. I love your work. Now I’ll deep dive into the story of this Beautiful man.
Karine I’m writing a novel and it deals with fame your channel truely helps me understand the weird world of Hollywood and the entertainment industry. If it ever get published god willing, your going to be in the acknowledgment’s.
He was so gorgeous. His look is timeless- he could easily be a model right now, could have been one in the 90’s- just timeless. It’s funny because just an hour ago I watched an interview with Skip E Lowe who knew Dean well, and said he was VERY bi and had a huge appetite for life- men, food, women, drink, smoking- anything. I always was fascinated how Dean would go to Marlon Brando’s apartment, outside, like a puppy, because he just wanted to be with him. He was a pretty fascinating person. His actions make him sound like maybe he was a little bipolar? Possibly? The CGI stuff is so creepy! Great video. I need to watch one of his films. I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never seen one!
I’m spamming but the thing about his scene in the Actors Studio and the S scene- there’s something very crazy about the method that they have to dig so deep and into their memories (which brings up such trauma when you’ve suffered loss, SA, trauma etc) that it really drove many actors to the edge emotionally. I personally think it was emotionally very damaging for Marilyn Monroe as well. Attempting S for an acting scene is not normal! A video on The Actors Studio would be really interesting!
Yes I agree, watch what you say of you own life and what other people say of you. Good 4U Karine to rebuke other people saying things negative about you.
9:55 I remember reading an article that Elizabeth Taylor mentioned she spoke with James and he confided in her that awful secret. I am not certain if that story was true, but if so that is sad the trauma James endured throughout his life. His eyes looked trouble up until his last days.
James Dean was an interesting character and he truly was a heartthrob. I've been noticing lately that people have been comparing Austin Butler to James Dean ( I don't see it, I see more Paul Newman). But the amount of artist that name drop him in music today shows he had a impact. It's so sad that it got cut short at 24.
@No, I'm not a nice person I thought the same thing as well. I didn’t see the comparisons at all but other ppl do. I thought something was wrong with me lol
Thanks for your comment. I can see the comparisons of Butler with both Dean and Newman. However, Mr. Butler isn't nearly so good looking as either of them, imo.
Iconic in his own way, especially for a bisexual guy. Funny how alot of men instinctively identify with James Dean lol, they emulate him and aren't shy to say it either. He reminds me of a few people I've known.
Thanks for your report. ☺️. . .Don't get me wrong, we generally are entertained by Hollyweird but knowing about the amount of pain that these people go thru is heart wrenching.
People who are from this era say he was not famous while alive. Only in three movies or something. Same with Marilyn Monroe. Both became icons after death but were not the Uber famous celebrities we think they were. Happens a lot in Hollywood as we all know.
Off topic but does anyone notice how he has really dark circles under his eyes? So did Paul Newman - it adds to their character and makes them more mysterious - so much more interesting than air brushed to perfection now days.
Apparently all of them have to give it up to make it. James Dean's longtime girlfriend played Steinfeld's mother on Steinfeld. She too once said James would sleep with anyone to get ahead including men.
If he dated Rock Hudson who died of H.I.V. and Rock dated Elizabeth Taylor... All her illnesses of having pneumonia, maybe she had the virus too. Maybe that's why she donated to the cause.
Rock Hudson died from AIDS in the 80s. James Dean passed away in 1955. There’s too much of a gap in transmission to infection for this theory to be possible. One of the first possible cases of AIDS was reportedly of a young teenager in the 60s. However this is highly debated and was only discovered decades later. Because of the lack of knowledge of the disease anyone that contracted HIV 40 plus years ago would quickly progress to AIDS and die from either an opportunistic disease or cancer(sarcoma). It’s just highly unlikely she would have contracted HIV from an encounter(s) with James Dean via Rock Hudson in the 50s. She was incredibly progressive and accepting of gay men at a time it was unheard of. She lost many close friends to the HIV /AIDS crisis. Hence why she donated.
Thank you Karine for mentioning a couple very subtle things that connect Jimmy's life events with certain things people are revealing more and more, about relationships in the industry. You mentioned his sketch of someone he was involved with and you said 'contract' in discussing his death. Nothing I mention is about his orientation. Don't care, because I understand all of it. But this is the first time I have heard anyone allude to the other forces at work. It is even worse now than back then.

Elizabeth Taylor wasn't one of his lovers. She was infatuated with Rock Hudson while filming Giant, and soon enough, Rock confided in her, and thus, a lifetime friendship was born. Ms. Taylor was one two female co-star in Hollywood that never turned her back on him. Doris Day was the other
Doesn't matter whether you were a fan of JD or not His Intense and Believable acting skills was fueled by the problems He experienced growing up. He made it work for him on the screen. Such a shame we didn't get to see more of His talent and that He found NO help for his emotional issues. As for being Gay, Hollywood did NOT start that NOR do they corner the market on that lifestyle. Go back to the Bible. It's in there right along with "Women of the Night" and Adultery. Very interesting perspective. Keep those videos coming. 👍

@lifeisnotworthliving YOU seem to have become defensive simply because I mentioned the "BIBLE". My point IS people need to STOP blaming Hollywood or any other Entity for the way they choose to live their lives. With the exception of minors, the use of drugs , Stockholm Syndrome, etc. Hollywood influencers by themselves simply cannot hypnotize a person into doing anything against their will. Heck the "BIBLE" states that WE were created with the ability to make choices. At what point did my response say that being gay is a "SIN"??? Please point it out for me. Please look up the word "LIFE STYLE". RIDDLE me THIS: IF as YOU say the BIBLE was created to control people, then why does it appear that the people in this world are so DAMN out of control??? 🤔
@lifeisnotworthliving Skin Color falls under the heading of Genetics NOT Human Nature. Human Nature leans more towards a persons Character and what makes them who they are. When the Inter- Direction of a person is heavily affected by any outside Stimuli and that outward Stimuli heavily influences the in-ward character of a person then outward behavior becomes affected and can and does become a Lifestyle. Therefore Orientation IS a CHOICE rather than something thrust upon an individual by Chance. Men are born Male and Women are born Female. IF Males and Females born with a particular set of Genitalia do not want to recognize that fact they are indeed making a Deliberate CHOICE, and LIFE STYLE CHANGE according to THE Perceptions they have of themselves and their feelings. IF every human being on the planet shared that same perception wouldn't WE ALL be a part of the LGBTQ Community??? Humans are individuals who make CHOICES. It's what WE do. I'm NOT shaming anyone. Your CHOICE is your CHOICE.
Women are almost NEVER given the same GRACE as men! I am not saying that abused men do not deserve grace but abused women deserve grace and support as well!
Paul Walker died the same way, in the same type of vehicle. James Dean already knew his fate and he carried on recklessly. He may have already been diagnosed with a terminal illness before the accident. Too bad we’ll never know.
He was an incredible actor tho, with supersonic charisma. His role in Giant is so incredible, you can't take your eyes off of him, he steals every scene easily, with no effort. It was his presence, his gaze, his mannerisms, everything. He looked and acted like a contemporary man. He did not look silver screen.

He sure could take a photo. Like wow. I don't know if it's the photographer vision or his beauty that made it so easy. These photos look like they are from today.
I was too young during his time and found out about him in high school (1974-77). He was disorienting to me especially because he whined and cried his way through scenes. I was trained at an early age not to behave this way when in distress. Anyway it is dreadful that he was attacked by others especially a Christian minister. This is detrimental in the development if his sexual identity. I suspect suicide even though people claim otherwise. Too sad.
"Boy, you'll be the death of me. You're my James Dean. " ~ Beyonce "I was his Marilyn Monroe Brown eyes Tuxedo Fast cars A James Dean on the low Dean on the low" ~ Rihanna "You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye" ~ Taylor Swift "Blue jeans White shirt Walked into the room You know you made my eyes burn It was like James Dean" ~ Lana Del Rey James Dean gets his name dropped by all the current big female starlets, regardless of their race. Paul Newnan, Montgomery Cliff, or Marlon Brando ain't doing that with this generation.
Paul Newman imo, looked better than James Dean. I think the reason why females were more attracted to James was because of his bad boy image or personality. That's usually the attraction til this day
Sex is not a straight line. We are all born of a mother and father, so we have both genes inside of us, some more or less of one or the other. Some people, like Dean, are inherently sensual in nature. It's called "sex appeal" and includes all genders. Most iconic film stars have it.
I've known all along he was a closet gay. Back in the early 80's read an article about him and all this ''unpleasantness'' business he was in. In the same report had a story about MM too and how she let herself be sexually abused by top chiefs to get on the acting ladder. All these reads made me shiver back in the day. Ugh !
Has someone who experienced similar s*** to this they don't understand how hard it is to realize that people only want you for one thing no matter how talented are more skills you are they still only see one part of you and want one part of you

James Dean's life was tragic. Although he was so talented, he was equally tormented and self-destructive. His androgynous look made him an easy prey in Hollywood when he was struggling. P.S. James Dean was a beautiful man. I had one of his calendars years ago. Eternally intriguing. Rebel Without a Cause is BRILLIANTLY inspirational!
What might have been if he didn't crash his new Porche
A beautiful soul gay or not
James Dean was quite the eccentric and interesting dude indeed.
This channel deserves an award...girl you're just so refreshing. I love your content

Hollywood is a sad wild place. This was going on during the “Golden Age”. Can you imagine how many people in Hollywood are living sad lives? 😢
Just started watching and noticed how heavy his eye bags were - and he died at 24! Wonder if was from stress / lifestyle?

I thought the same thing.👍👍👍👍
River Phoenix is my favourite actor. He always remind me of James Dean.
THANK YOU. Lady you know your audience. I paused after the intro to write this. Im a gay man myself and my gay godfather always told me about a lot of old Hollywood being V V gender fluid.
I love your work. Now I’ll deep dive into the story of this Beautiful man.
What's V V gender fluid?
definitely bipolar ...I relate so much to him. Awesome video Karine
Karine I’m writing a novel and it deals with fame your channel truely helps me understand the weird world of Hollywood and the entertainment industry. If it ever get published god willing, your going to be in the acknowledgment’s.
Don't do it, choose to live
Same never seen his films either. On my list for sure though…
I’ve always thought he was gorgeous!
All three of his movies are excellent.
@No, I'm not a nice person hah! I think he’s got a ways to go!
His cousin who is still living says it was all bullshit. Don't try to tell me he was queer-no fucking way!
This should be pinned! A video on the Actors Studio. You are bang on with your assessment btw!
I hope you will do Montgomery Clift and Anthony Perkins
Those would be some good ones. Great suggestions.
Yes I agree, watch what you say of you own life and what other people say of you. Good 4U Karine to rebuke other people saying things negative about you.
Also how the three main cast of Rebel without a Cause all died tragic deaths 😭
9:55 I remember reading an article that Elizabeth Taylor mentioned she spoke with James and he confided in her that awful secret. I am not certain if that story was true, but if so that is sad the trauma James endured throughout his life. His eyes looked trouble up until his last days.
WHAT awful secret ? I was there ...there was no 'awful' secret 😂 You can't keep secrets in Hollywood !
A grounded person wants nothing to with Hollywood.
Tbh…I think the music industry over in the UK might actually be better.
You Mean, ‘HOLLY-WEIRD’!
Such a tragic end.... If only there was someone he could've talked to 😔 Thank you for sharing this !!!!
Luke Perry of his time. Almost a carbon copy.
Thanks for your comment. I can see the comparisons of Butler with both Dean and Newman. However, Mr. Butler isn't nearly so good looking as either of them, imo.
I see James Franco.

Iconic in his own way, especially for a bisexual guy. Funny how alot of men instinctively identify with James Dean lol, they emulate him and aren't shy to say it either. He reminds me of a few people I've known.
Not the 75M black , Hispanic or Latino men of America.
Bullshit.
He was man enough to admit it. Most are not.
For white bi men. James Dean appealed to mostly white people. He's the all-American white boy as well as a bi/queer icon
16:40 you said it. “Don’t speak bad things on your life”
I think words have so much power. We spell words. That’s a secret in plain sight.
Yes girl I agree!! Don't speak anything negative into existence!!
Had a rare attitude. Regarding sexuality. , it didn't matter with whom he slept, as long as the individual. provided him with something he valued. .
If he dated Rock Hudson who died of H.I.V. and Rock dated Elizabeth Taylor... All her illnesses of having pneumonia, maybe she had the virus too. Maybe that's why she donated to the cause.
😮😮😮😮😮 🤯🤯🤯🤯 mind blowing connection 👀👀
They were all involved in the 1950’s, H.I.V. wasn’t around r then
@@tonyabelton4533 Rock Hudson died of communication from AIDS. && E. Taylor gave a huge donation🤷so yes it was around back then
I believe Liz’s son Michael Wilding died of AIDS and that’s when she began her AIDS fund raising donations.
I love this channel ...🥰 Dude was a heart throb because my mother had a picture of him in her hallway...it was more of a poster now that I think about it...🤣🤣 her spirit just made me come back and clarify that it was in fact a poster, but it was "FRAMED"🤣🤣🤣🤗
That’s cool. He had such chiseled looks.

He wasn't gay for pay, he was Bisexual. All his friends new that.
I don't have telegram. Sorry. I'm new at this. My responce was to another person who left a comment about JD and NOT to the original creator of the JD video. The young Lady that created the video did a marvelous job. I learned some things that I didn't know before about JD. Hope that she will share more with us.
You’re a little in denial on that Hollywood part
@@Coco-fi4mv NO . I'm not in denial. I've accurately accessed the situation exactly the way that it is.

Paul Walker died the same way, in the same type of vehicle. James Dean already knew his fate and he carried on recklessly. He may have already been diagnosed with a terminal illness before the accident. Too bad we’ll never know.
Paul Walker beautifully similar
He was an incredible actor tho, with supersonic charisma. His role in Giant is so incredible, you can't take your eyes off of him, he steals every scene easily, with no effort. It was his presence, his gaze, his mannerisms, everything. He looked and acted like a contemporary man. He did not look silver screen.

He sure could take a photo. Like wow. I don't know if it's the photographer vision or his beauty that made it so easy. These photos look like they are from today.
It's worth noting that being a bisexual or closeted gay men doesn't make being a victim of this any better or worse.
He went through a sad life. Sad that he passed away so young 😔😔
Too sad.

James Dean gets his name dropped by all the current big female starlets, regardless of their race. Paul Newnan, Montgomery Cliff, or Marlon Brando ain't doing that with this generation.
I think part of it is also he died so young so the mystique around him is greater. All those men were equally gorgeous in there prime.
