      Great review as always, Thomas! Didn't know you guys were coming down to UAE. I stay in Dubai and would have been nice to catch up with the Autogefuhl team!!
      Nevertheless, a great first step by Audi. However, the idea of side cameras instead of mirrors is cool only for concept cars, actual implementation is quite irritating to say the least. Moreover, the small size of those side cameras look so disproportionate design aesthetic wise.
      Lastly, even though silent cars seem like a nice solution but I think safety wise it will always be better to have some kind of sound to recognise an approaching vehicle. Maybe they could implement sensors (front and rear) that would detect traffic up to a certain distance and the car would produce noise based on that requirement ? Much needed I think.

    Even my Model S 90D consumes more than 25kWh/100km at highway speed. There is nothing to complain about that. Completely normal for an electric car of that size. And 120-140km/h is way faster than normal cruising speed in most countries.
    You should even try standard 19"-wheels instead of 21". I guess the consumption will drop a lot and the range will increase accordingly. That's what is does in a Tesla.
    Thanx for your videos and your recommendations regarding the mirrors. I have ordered my e-tron with real mirrors.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Marcus!
      I had the Model X for a longer period of time and was always realizing 400 to 450 km realistic range.
      I ll repeat that with this one also for a longer time and see how that goes

    • @mati74
      @mati74 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ok. Just remember that a Tesla 100D has almost 100kWh of usable capacity. The e-tron has 95kWh in total, including a safety buffer. The usable capacity is probably about 85kWh which is only slightly more than Teslas 90-battery that has 82kWh usable capacity.
      With that said, a Model X 100D will always have a better range even if the consumption is roughly the same.
      I expect the e-tron to have a realistic range of 300-420km. About the same as my Model S90D.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah good point. Also, I think the e-tron is a little heavier

    Thomas, thanks for being honest about side mirror cameras. In my opinion you've just save a ton of people who are buying this car (or maybe any other car with side-cameras) from a huge disappointment. Based on what I can see in the video - 1. cameras they do not cover as big area as standard mirrors do, 2. they lack depth and increase eye strain since you have to re-focus your eyes 3. the projected area of the screen to your eye is smaller than that of a normal mirror, forcing you to spend more time figuring out what you see on that screen. 4. all those points probably are ten times worse at night. (edit:) 5. As you have mentioned - when you looking at the screen, you don't see what's in-front (behind the normal mirror)
    Maybe cameras have a future if: 1. they are made stereo, 2. bigger viewing area, 3. better screen placement (like on a a-pillar and/or partially on an left air vent/console), 4. wider viewing angle

    Quite agree with you, these camera-mirrors are not practical to say the least. As far as the range of the e-tron is concerned (+ 300km) I wonder what the range would be if you have this car for example in a scandinavian country in winter ... I personally would choose the A7 2.0 55tsi e quattro s tronic with normal mirrors and some options (f.e. a built in Stinger, if they control speed limits from a chopper ...) Thank you once again for a splendid video !

    After sitting in a e-tron ( at electric car show ) with those screen mirrors I partly agree your view about them. Especially the driver side mirror screen is placed to low. I seen bus and truck concept vehicles with them in the A-pillar. Why not place the mirror screen in the corner of lower part of A-pillar and the instrument panel? It should be more in view then than a regular side view mirror.

Is it possible to get the same magic carpet ride when you put the e-tron in comfort mode instead of dynamic mode? Do you miss the upright (commanding) driving position that 'regular' SUV's have? I also understand that you can't have it all, and possibly lose some commanding position and floating to gain some agility. But I am still curious about your experience with e-tron in comfort, compared to Q7 or XC90. Thanx!

      Hey m8, checked the driving part in full length? Because I talked a lot about the suspension. Also there is a Q8 review coming up where I also focus exactly that. The XC90 suspension is worse, that I can already say.

    It’s not my personal taste size wise, and also I like my EVs to be more aero efficient and futuristic looking rather than trying to keep this grille look which wastes energy. But any EV is welcome at this point. I’m sure many people are going to love this, and they’ll be driving it instead of a fossil SUV. So that’s a win.
    I’m not against the idea of camera mirrors, but in this case they stick out too far and the screens are too low. But the coloured blind spot monitoring is really cool. The next version of them will be great I think.

  • @dragetreneren

    Electronic mirrors can probably be placed where the rearview mirror is. The strange electronic camera-mirrors kan probably be totaly removed and replaced with another solution like integrated cameras in the side pillars in the middle and back if necessary.

    Reviews are great as always.. I wonder how those camera mirrors work at night, since normal mirror get more informations, also the camera mirrors are small, and has bad angle (on the side).. Also most configs are touch only, it is slow and laggy.. it is just bad as the age we live in.

    volkswagen corp. really needs to design their ev driveline cars from the bottom, i think this would improve efficiency and range, as well as space utilization in the cabin, for axample look at the cargo space in the tesla s under the bonnet, and the false floor in the back. Otherwise this car looks beautiful, and i think it will be a success, finally a longer range ev with german build quality and (possibly) reliability, would for axample not dare to own an i-pace outside of warranty. Good video btw. :)

    I would say this is one of the best long road trip cars you could choose. Long range, very fast charging, no engine drone for hours that would drive you crazy in a fossil car.

    • @christill
      @christill 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kraenk12 yeah I did reconsider the comment after I saw the range result. But it’s still enough for long trips in my opinion. Tesla would be better of course. Just not quite as relaxing due to the extra wind and road noise. It looks as if Audi have got the same result as Jaguar in refusing to go aero in design and so are giving up a lot of efficiency.
      I love how EVs really make clear the difference size, weight and aerodynamics have on efficiency. Hopefully it’ll persuade quite a few people to get a smaller car with more range.

    • @onepunchbud1472
      @onepunchbud1472 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For my taste it needs 200km more range and we need more fast charger at various places at the autobahn, then this would be a great option.
      If you don't have enough charger where you can make a coffee pause your trips will take so long. Imagine you have to wait until another car is charged and you need to wait for 1 hour, jump out and rush to it, so no other electric car is faster. This would be horrible.
      And since I cannot buy two cars I need 1 to cover not only the normal day trips, but also longer ones, I think 500+ is the sweet spot, so you don't need to make a 30min stop every 2 hours... that's just insane.

    • @christill
      @christill 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      One punch Bud I saw an interview with a guy from Inside EVs recently and he predicted that in the next couple of years we’ll see some cars with unnecessarily long ranges (400 miles or so). That will attract people who are scared to switch. And then once those people live with the cars and realise they don’t need that much range, manufacturers will reduce to around 300 miles or less. Probably 200 for a lot of models. Especially as we get more and more rapid chargers, excessive range will be just making the cars heavier and less efficient for no real benefit.

    You should probably consider active throttling with paddles on the steering wheel. A concept known to those who drive motorcycles and airplanes. This that can be donw with paddles on both sides. The downside is similar to that of motorcycles and airplanes, again - drivers hands will need to be on the same place on the steering wheel. But not all the time with the right recuperation mode.

      @@autogefuehl I commute to work 50 m (~80km) one way. After a few roundabouts I get on the straight motorway, bring the car up to speed, hit cruise control and for the next 40 miles just hold the steering wheel. So why would I not be able to stretch my legs during this time? In the other scenario, if I drive on holiday, let's say, from Calais to Rosenheim (1000km), why would I want to sit all this time with my knees hitting my chin :) , if I don't have enough leg room? Shouldn't driving be relaxing and enjoying or should it be like a nightmare?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@utube521 I understand, sadly that's highly dangerous. You always have to be sitting in a way that you can apply the hardest pressure to the brake pedal for a full stop. That's not possible with stretched legs :(

    Crazy to put the screen for the right side (mirror) camera all the way over on the right side of the car, close to where that mirror was. Why not put the screens just to the sides of the steering wheel, where they can easily be seen? Instead, they perpetuate the weaknesses/limitations of the old technology. Like keeping radiator grilles, creep, big front end that was needed to accommodate a fossil engine, etc.

    Fine automobile. Maybe there was a quality lapse on the trim that came up from the top of the dash? I don't know about the rear view mirrors. It's something different. Interior is modern and looks like the next step in Audi interior design. Still a bit bland exterior but it is improving, in my opinion. Style is subjective. Others will love it and they'll be right.
