Thanks so much for including us and promoting the show Jack!
Love you guys
Saw you guys at the tower in San Diego can’t wait for you to come back
@@dustinblackesthart359 we'll be back at Tower Bar this month on March 25th!
this horror punk band once opened for rancid in japan.
lars literally said "GIVE IT UP FOR BALLSACK!"
they were called balzac lol
Black Sails is incredible. That album is an overlooked masterpiece. Metal, punk, goth, elements all present there.
What an incredible, in depth video!! We appreciate all the time and effort put in to making this possible!
Massive thank you for the shout out, and for flying the Freak Flag!!! We May Be Freaks But We Are Not Alone!!! 🤡💀🧟♂️
Small world. I never expected to see some hometown buds on this channel. 5 cent is a great band and a great group of ghouls!
Really appreciate all the love for AFIs horror punk years
I was a huge fan of Black Sails in the Sunset Long before i even knew who Misfits were, which sounds crazy now, but because of my age, it just happened that way. I still love that album.
The first Christian Death is amazing. Rikk Agnew! His style, the OC style like The Adolescents, D.I. influenced a lot of so cal bands of later years.
RIP Rozz Williams 🖤
Excellent! I can attest that the Groovie Ghoulies were very important for punk in Sacramento and the larger, non-Bay Area, Nor Cal scenes. Particularly Kepi was always supporting bands and getting shows together and in general helping keep the music alive (or was it...undead).
I'd definitely agree , I can't tell you how many times I seen the ghoulies in sac at the boardwalk or club retro or local clubs around the area
The Cramps actually started in Sacramento...they relocated to NYC
In the pub last week, I put Green Hell by the Misfits on the jukebox. The lady behind the bar turned it up.
One of the greatest Death-Rock albums to get anyone into the genre is this compilation called, Killed By Deathrock. Think they've made a few of those comps, but the first one is pure gold.
Alien Sex Fiend for earlier UK stuff, Skinny Puppy for blatant industrial gore, GWAR is important, and the nerdiness of Ink & Dagger for 90's vampire hardcore. For recent sounds, Blu Anxxiety are fantastic! And Final Gasp are great for a recent Samhain kick as well. Otherwise, great vid there sir!
Thats a cool report! Thanks for bringing us in! STAY UNDEAD!
But The Necros! Lol…great video man. I’m an old punk rocker and had all that early stuff and death rock like 45 grave.
I’d love to see you do a doc on DC band Scream lol but that’s a tall order. Keep up the great work boss! 😎👍
Love the first clip of some entity of blitzkid. Much love to you. 0:07
Samhain is essential listening for any fan of Glenn Danzig. It’s the perfect bridge between Misfits and Danzig- not only chronologically but also in terms of seeing the metamorphosis of Glenn Danzig as an artist.
Talked to you at Fest last night after D4!! Turns out I had watched this video as well as 3 others of yours. Crazy coincidence man!! Quality content, got my sub.
Sidenote, RIP Jason Trioxin. The horror scene isn't the same without him.
Aw, thanks for the acknowledgement Mr Punk Historian! Great video! Happy Halloween! 🦇🦇🦇
I skated to A.F.I especially Fall Children along with every Misfits songs
That was weird and cool to hear bands that I’d played in (Raw Dogs) and with (Evelyn’s Casket) in the intro.
Deadbolt 👹
DUDE! i fucking forgot about Murderdolls! That song about being in love with Reagan from the Exorcist was my shit as a teenager lol 🤣 (also i had a GIANT poster of Reagan all green and fucked up looking in my room)
This channel is so much better than The Punk Rock MBA.
Great video. Please make a SAMHAIN video and release on November 1st 🩸🔥
Hour Of The Wolf is great too. Highly recommended horror garage punk
Love them
Calabrese, Nim Vind! Rosedales, Blitzkid!
yo this is my first video of yours and this was DOPE! been a huge horror punk fan since high school, so a good 16-17 years now!
Awesome! Looking forward to the Psychobilly video!
I am glad you at least put 45 Grave in there. Mary has a great voice. Not to mention their drummer was Don who was the drummer for the Germs.
there's a band called Creeper from the UK, and they really got me going into horror punk. they started off as an AFIcore band, got kinda experimental with their second album, and really embraced goth and heavy metal on their new album
Menzingers video when
Take a listen of my music. I think you might like it.
So glad you included 5 cent and Evelyn’s Casket in this video! Those are the kings of our current wave! I play in a band called The Writhers and you might dig us as well. We mix cramps horror punk with dead kennedys CA punk
I really love your work, guy. This video, like many others on the channel...are so easy to take in and drink up.
Glenn Danzig reigns supreme when it comes to horror punk and I think this video proves it. Two of his bands are on this list not to mention offshoot bands like Son of Sam and other bands from Misfits members. Nobody does it better imo
Been watching your vids for about a year now - i think they’re great and i realized how much i like your consistent narrating style. Also my gf is from washington so we recognized the names of the towns in the PNW sponsor. Anyways thanks from a fan!
I've needed this video for soooo long! I am glad TH-cam put it my way. I've been a fan of Wednesday 13 for a while already, and I have wanted ever since to check on more Horror Punk, but besides Misfits, never knew what direction to take (metalhead here). This is not only documental, but very pedagogical. Thank you so much! I'll be checking more of your content.
I'm more into gothic rock, darkwave and industrial, but I love the Misfits. If you're going to mention the Jasons "Get Sued", you need to check out the biggest Misfits cover/parody band, The Misfats. They were literally the biggest.
Their vocalist sounded a lot like Danzig, but the lyrics were changed to focus on the band's obesity. There was "Mommy, Can I Go Out and Grill Tonight", "20 Pies", "Butter" (Danzig's Mother), "Hungry Moments", "Diet, Diet, Diet, My Darling", etc. Some of their stuff is still on YT, but they will never get back together. They also won't restock merch, which is a shame, because their logo was a fat Crimson Ghost skull.

I loved to see The VIndictives get a mention. They were a very underrated band! A video on them would be sick! There are a lot of people that haven't heard them.
Hell yeah! Long live the horror!
Check out the Casket Creatures guys, horrorpunk for the Metro Atlanta area
Exactly what I needed now! 🖤🔥
A + in regards to your research for the T.S.O.L / 45 Grave Era.
I was there for that and eventually gravitated to more gloom doom bands.
Which led to following "industrial dance" , and as time carried me forward , eventually led me to Drum & Bass / Jungle.
The constant search for HARDER and Faster beats.
Happy early Halloween
Insanely good video, encompassing everything there is about horror punk. I regularly listen to Allow Hallows EP and The Art of Drowning together. Also Wednesday 13, Murderdolls, Blitzkid and Calabrese and Argyle Goolsby from Blitzkid. The Son of Sam album with Davey Havok is also killer. I work at walmart and that sucks, but I'm in the back so I can wear one ear bud. All day I just bust my ass and listen to music the entire time.
thank you for being on the right side of the “THATS NOT HOW YOU SAY SAH-WIN” argument
love Tiger Army
The Cancerslug nod., nice. You're the best to ever do it, great video
always happy to see a voodoo church mention !
The Rosedales for the win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack G, from TSOL called us DeathRockers.. never a Goth,, goth was goth,, Bauhaus, Southern Death Cult, Sisters of Mercy etc . I'm ancient now at 50, still find Solid Post Punk,, my playlist will prove this.. Cheers from Huntington Beach CA 🇺🇸
You say that you’re “under qualified”. Yet I think your posts are pretty good. Well done, dog.
Dude I notice u mention Avail, Off With Their Heads, and D4. You should do a video on Orgcore, definitely one of the best Punk Subgenres.
I would definitely recommend Rock City Morgue, Sean Yseult from white zombie plays bass for them. Great stuff from New Orleans
Psychobilly, esp zombie ghost train is my jam
What an excellent job, very complete 🍷🩸 suscribed
Happy Halloween jack 🎃👻
Good video man!
Also I think the 2 compilation albums This is Horrorpunk from Fiend Force Records is defiantly worth mentioning. They played a huge part of the scene at the time, opening up the ears for many fans of the genrre to lots of great bands!
Do one about crack rocksteady!!! Great vid btw
The Jason’s get sued album is still available on Apple Music .fantastic video, everything you put out is gold
Awesome!!! You should check out the Venice skate-crossover!😎
Waiting on that psychobilly special! Thanks for this video!🎃🎃🎃👻👻👻
misfits famous monsters is not just one of the best misfits albums but one of the best horror punk albums of all time
Blitzkid five cellar below is better in my opinion
Great video. I’ve never seen that strung out shirt with the skull or noticed the cock rock skate deck in the background. Hit me with all kinds of surprises tonight. Rock on brother 🤘
Groove Ghoulies rule and reverend Horton hear might be the best live band I’ve ever seen
Bitch I Want my 4 Hundred dollars!!!!
Every generation had their own groups of horror punk , the cramps to alkaline trio , and with any luck it will keep going.
Great video! Love this stuff. Saw Blitzkid last month. I wrote that band’s Wilipedia article, and also Mr. Monster’s and Cryptkeeper Five’s. Love the Groovie Ghoulies, ever since their 1991 cover of Pet Sematary. I got to see them back in the day, and they honored my request to play “punk part 2”, dedicated to the Ramones.
One FANTASTIC artist that didn’t happen to be mentioned in the video is Nim Vind. Check him out if you don’t know. “Killing Saturday night”, “that girl” (fan video w/horror clips), “jack knife”, and “death defier” are great videos for an introduction. His stuff with Mr. Underhill (underground) and the Vincent Black Shadow (mainstream) also worth checking out.
good overview of the genre.... just a few things....
The Return of the Living Dead soundtrack is a pretty good road map of late 70s/early 80s Horror Punk with The Flesheaters representing the the 70s LA Punk scene, The Tallboys (an off shoot of The Meteors) giving listeners a taste of Psychobilly, Roky Erickson who brought the 60s Psych Rock to Punk fans... and the Jet Black Berries who started off as New Math and had an EP and LP of more 70s/Bowie/ Post Punk Horror sounds...
The Forbidden Dimension from Calgary Canada have pretty much been the best Horror Garage Punk band since around 1991.....
90s/ early 2000s Horror Punk bands that I think deserve more attention include..... Riot Squad/The Staggers from Texas, Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, The Coffinshakers, and Ghoultown... the last 2 of these are more Roots Rock/Country Horror Punk, but have enough punk in them to be listenable to Horror Punk fans.
I would be remiss if I didn't point out that often Horror Punk from TSOL, to The Groovie Ghoulies and even The Misifits have used Horror Punk to comment on social ills, mental illness and especially being an outsider in your local culture...
There is a local favorite for me called MURF. They are a pretty heavy and fun Harcore Punk band and their album Video Nasties is a great take on Horror Punk.
Yaaasss please do a PsychoBilly episode!
Please do a deep dive on Psycho'!!!!! Thanks and Happy Halloween!
Fun fact. Nerve Agents were really close friends with AFI and they at one point lived in the same abandoned UC Berkeley frathouse-turned-squat
That kinda makes sense given timing and proximity. I think the drummer ended up in the distillers too if I’m not mistaken
The misfits will always be considered the top of the horror punk genre. I think blitzkid is up there, too. They have put out some really good albums.
Thanks for including Sloppy Seconds.
Their drummer has been a friend since Karma Records in Greenwood Indiana.
Steve, where are you?
Tsol was not a horror punk band. Jack the singer started his band vicious circle and that every party or show they played there was violence and cops were called so he started the true sounds of Liberty as a punk rock band. Jack likes to experiment with music. That is why his first album and his second album have a different feel but they are not a horror punk rock band. They are a punk rock band. I grew up with them, Ron and Jack are good friends of mine. Some of that live coverage of TSOL was taken at the Cuckoo's Nest. You can immediately know that by the clouds painted on the walls behind them playing. The back door is right there also.
TSOL are Sissies. Hail the Mighty Men of Meat!!
I think in linear history splatter platters come first or at least before The Cramps and Mistfits of which the latter is a very similar construct .
I’m the lead singer of The Amatorculists which is a horror punk band. You can find some of our tracks here on TH-cam.
I went to highschool with Goolsby.
Hell yeah, this was the video I've been waiting for. Great work!
The story of Kepi and Groovie Ghoulies would indeed be a fine tale for the people.
Killer video Jack!
Forgot to add graves several solo projects after leaving the Misfits with chud.
Also another great band that has that 90s misfits influence is silent horror.
SNFU reference spotted!
When my band, Earth, Worm, &, Fire, morphed into a bar band in our 20's we still slipped in TSOL songs. I'm proud to say everybody thought they were originals because I delivered them so good. Nothing For You and Flowers By The Door were always in our setlist. I NEVER said we wrote these masterpieces but they became kind of our own. THANK YOU TSOL. I've made karaoke tracks to them I think.....
Dance with Me is the best album in the genre and mostly responsible for it too
Nice shouts to the Ghoulies. As a punk fan and a Sac music fan I always loved them
I see what you did there “CRASS” course lol 😂😂😂🎉 good job buddy
Graves era Misfits is great when not comparing it to the Danzig era for sure
Good to see you posting again. You must be busy w diesel boy!
45 Grave played in Seattle earlier this year with Nox Novacula. Were you there? I’m the bass player.
Sadly I missed that one. That’s awesome though! Nice!
Great In Depth Video!! I'm From The Atlanta, Ga Area, ( And I Seriously Have To Mention And Plug My Friends In A Great Local Horror Punk Band, Called, ( Casket Creatures!!) I Really Think You'd Seriously Dig Too!! 💀💀💀☠☠☠🎸🎸🎸🎵🎵🎵😁😁😁😎😎😎🤘🤘🤘🤘💀💀💀
Dude, I love how your work has paid off. Still doing TH-cam videos AND playing in Diesel Boy. Fuckin' A, Jack, Fuckin' A!
Looking forward to the nod to Won't Stay Dead.
A couple of my friends had a horror punk/metalcore band called Archiver. They've since reformed as Haunter blending their early horror punk sound with darkwave. pretty cool stuff.
solid video brotha
This video is the best. Seeing the tsol and offspring connection is spot on. Plus their AFI links are in it.
Calabrese too. Sweet.
Make a mini doc of No Fun At All,so underrated
Some more bands worth checking out:
Saturday Nite Shockers (my friend's old band!)
Dark Ride
Ghoultown
Tomb of Nick Cage
The Immortalz
Order of The Fly
Nimvind
Blood Sucking Zombies From Outer Space
The Big Bad
Ghoultown is amazing
@brettkihlmire573 got to see them last year open up for 45 Grave. Amazing show got the setlist and Lyle Blackburn's guitar pick that night!
I love the misfits, and Samhain, t.s.o.l I love goth and death rock
For local horror rock you forgot is 800 octane from Longview,wa there album rise again is great
Great video! I'm peripherally aware of horror punk and deathrock, having come across a band of the latter subgenre (Christian Death) through the black metal band Lamp of Murmuur covering one of their songs on their Submission and Slavery record from a few years back.
What no alkaline trio 😢 and the uks creeper are doing the horror punk thing but with added meatloaf
