When I was younger I would leave them in for 6 months bc we couldn’t afford to get it done more AND nobody knew how to take care of it 😂 the growth over those 4 years was def insane
your hair didn't loc?
@@rmv1214 Hi. I've had my braids in for around five and have months and they haven't yet loc'd 😅. However, I do my best to really take care of my natural hair while it's underneath the braids.
@@wendiweramundi2923 WOW! 5 1/2 is crazy XD, you must have had crazy hair growth. If you have it that long, make sure you don't use synthetic hair extensions as they are harmful to your health.
@@rmv1214 nope! as someone stated I used a human/synthetic hair blend. Made sure to wash and condition often and was good to go! Unfortunately I didn’t keep all the length as I had a lot of split ends.
@@rmv1214 thank you for the info. I'm taking them down in approximately 2 weeks. I'll be back by then with an update.
Your mini twists still look good after 3 months 😍.
I know right? Looking fresh and polished!
Don’t they??!!! 🔥
I'm a huge supporter of Black women taking care of and rocking their natural hair. Our hair is so beautiful, unique and versatile. In my humble opinion, Black women generate a different type of beauty when we rock our healthy natural hair regardless of the length. One of my favorite pics of you is your TH-cam channel profile pic. Beautiful picture of you.
I second that thought ❤
I third this. 😊
I agree as well. Completely changed my life when I decided to care for my hair.
I did the same thing a few months ago. I swear by mini twists for growth but the thing with them is the longer they stay the better they look to me. I was at 3.5 months and realized the back of my hair was locing so I had to take them out lol. Thank god for the african pride prepoo cause it saved my hair that day.
yes i love that pre-poo lol! do you find yourself going through a lot? i use like 1/3 to 1/2 the tub each wash day and my hair isn't even that long idk if i'm being heavy-handed
I'm finally coming around to liking that pre-poo. 1st time I tried it, I hated it😅! Now I know how to use it.
@@lisaisa I recommend you ignore the jar saying to put it on dry hair, use it on wet hair and you can use sooooo little because the slip is actually insane.
@@lisaisa do you guys have 4c hair. Which shampoo and conditioner do you use afterwards?
@@breeeeeee thanks, i’ll try that!
Now sis lmao you knew that even 2 months was pushing it with mini twists. You were about to be loc gang with me lol I started mine with mini twists.
❤❤😂😂
Im a 3 month protective style warrior 😂 i used to have take downs similar to this video but now my takedowns are a breeze. Heres What ive learned from leaving my hair in 3 months at a time over 7 times already…
Dry hair locks
Moisturized hair doesnt
Thats why when you get locs you just shampoo and retwist because any moisture is prolonging your hair from locking
I currently have mini twists in im on month two and they still look moisturized and will be easy to take down due to my moisture routine.
Next time spray your hair daily with water and aloe vera or leave in conditioner. Add oil and glycerin every other day and thank me later q
Facts. I do the exact same thing
I have a question ...does ur hair smell when u spray it daily? Bc i tried spraying my hair failing anf oiling it and for some reason when water stays in my hair it doesnt leave a pleasant smell
Thank you for being so honest about what happens when a protective style has been in too long. ( I've done that 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️) and what happens when you destroy the bathroom during wash day!!!!😂😂😂
ok but imagine Isi with locs 😍
That’s what I was thinking. 🔥
I’ve done mini braids on myself. 6 months with shampoo and conditioning once a month. Refreshed the edges every 2 months. When you braid your own hair, it just hits different. I wanna get all of the wear out the braids.😆
So does the shampooing and condit keep the hair the new growth from matting/getting linty
2.5 months with mini braids and I’m definitely not going further than that with my type 4 hair!
I’ve been off YT for a while but I came back because I’m thinking about letting my hair loc. But there is never any good examples of my 4c hair. I started following you because of that. Your experiment gave me the knowledge I need to go forward. Thank you
It was a dare between my mom and I. 7 months with small braids. I used my hair only for braids. The takedown was hell as my roots were interlocked with each other. I normally leave them for 3 months and I'm okay, but 7 months was a lesson learnt. Also I tend to keep my mini twists in for max 6 weeks. They are washed and moisturised weekly after the 2 week mark. I found that helped with separating the hair so it does not tangle together.
There is no way I would have the patience to take down all those little twists. That would drive me to drink. 8 braids max!
Did u notice alot of growth u and ur mom after the 7th month takedown??
@@MilkyWay-vr7ku the growth was there. Only downside was the shedding. To have to comb out all the shed hair, especially as they were knotted at my roots was the time consuming part.
My mum used to have that yellow red and black pattern you have on your gown as a Nigerian wrapper , it’s exactly the same😊felt all nostalgic. Thanks for the video.
hi
The VOLUMEE from the new growth in these mini twists is giving siss 😁✨
But it's not hair growth if you're losing the same amount of hair that grows.
@@cidneyoliver4706it’s shedding. When your hair locs, the shedding gets stuck in your locs. You look like you’re losing more hair but you actually aren’t.
This was so fun to watch 🤗 I pray you’re truly as happy & joyful as you seem 🫶🏾🥰
Yass Isi with the new video. 😊Hope the Mother’s Day dance was a good ol jolly time!!! Even after all that struggle, the hair is still popping and flourishing
I had braids for 3 months with a touch up around the perimeter after a month in a half...do not recommend 3 months either 😅 I had to stop after a few hours and start again the next day because I began to rip the left side of my hair out... so once I regrouped I took my time on the right side now my right side is about an inch longer than the left side. Please take your time during take down ladies!
The new growth was insane though 😂
I leave in the protective style for 2 months max with washing it in between and touching it up in between. It’s soo good.
I had two strand twists in for 7 weeks. I braided the roots and twisted the rest of the way down. My hair was flourishing and grew out super quick. The roots started to mat together 🥹 It took me 4 days to take them out. It was brutal...and I had crazy shedding BUT my hair was thicker and so much healthier!
Chile ive left my mini twists in for 6months 😅...the twist out from them is my fav and best twist out. My 4c hair just loves smaller twists cuz of my tiny coils.
How did the twists not lock up? Asking for myself.
@allhailthegreatmother7342 I don't really wash it too many times throughout those months but with that being said I do not layer a lot of products either..I have seborrheic dermatitis and so when I put my hair in mini twists the oil from my scalp is enough to keep my hair moisturized and at the same time keep my SD at bay. Spritz with water and let it flourish
@@BabyBoo0492 Ok cause baby I've been spritzing with water sealing with evoo and im tempted to let it do what it do. But I do not want locs. Thank you for your response 🙌🏾
@@allhailthegreatmother7342 you're welcome 😊
I was inspired by your video of the installation of the mini twists that I decided to do my own! They took me 8 hours to install and I left them in for 6 weeks, took them down a few days ago
i started my natural hair journey a year ago, and girl you have helped me through so so much
I'm loving the editing 😊
Finally I've been waiting for these ...my favorite type of videos ❤❤...missed your new content on hair
its the fact shell say dont do something and then boom she waiting half a year to take down her hairrr lolll
Longest I kept in a protective was 3.5 months, i washed my hair every month while they were in. That helped with the breakage at the take down. Wasn't alot. Did a trim then too
i love me some mini twists omg! and the longest i've ever left a protective style in was a month and a half.
Isiiiiiii!!! So nice to see another video from you!!! Love since 2016 always 💗
Whenever I do a protective style with added hair, 2 months with scalp care was good for me. A regular mini (smedium) twist style would last 2-3 weeks before I wash my hair.
Glad to finally see your view on mini Twists. I loooooove mini twists so muuuch !! Longest i went into a protective style was back in Uni i went 4months in braids. The growth i reappped!! maan it was something
Wow, did you use hair extensions to braid your hair?
@@laurettaajunwa4628 Hii Lauretta, yes I had extension braids 😊
my longest protective style was for a year in head wraps . lol when i saw i should be covering my head but i misinterpreted for prayer and prophecying for all the time. lol. well i mean i talk to God all the time so i thought i was praying...... but yah a year my hair grew about 6 inches with 3 to 4 trims :D
I love watching your wash day videos ❤I’ve learned so much on how to take care of my type 4 hair because of you so thank you 😊
I love seeing your growth! We have similar texture so you’re definitely my hair goals.
You absolutely eat every style up every time Isi. I feel that you would also look soooo bomb with locs! Would you ever loc your hair?
Lol the way I got so happy at that length check! Girl you betta inspire us😂💕
Mini twists looked really good. I kept mini twists in a 2 months and same as you they were acting like they wanted to lock. Watched an entire series taking them down🤣 but the growth was so good.
COME ON LENGTH!!!💚
😂 sis I knew this was a disaster since I saw 3 months, under such circumstances moisturizing and oiling is vital 💯
I always keep my protective styles in at least 2 months. I feel like it’s just a waste to have it in for like 1 month
Babe, in the 80s, I left cornrows in for a YEAR. Washed and conditioned weekly, tied with a scarf nightly. Nobody else was wearing braids then, so nobody said anything. Straight 4c. My shrinkage hid a lot.
Yes! I got mini twists... to start my locs lol. Loved it!
Gurl that new growth is beautiful and calling me to retwist or retie it lolll just come on over to the loc side😍😍
Girl we missed you! Would love to see you back on here more ❤️
Gorgeous hair girl!! My go to protective style is crochet faux locs, and I usually leave them in for 3 months. I love the style because all of hair is tucked away and the older it gets, the better it looks (imo).😊😊
Do you cornrow your hair before installing the crotchet faux locs or do the individual braids method?
Wow now that method is so smart thank you !❤
Appreciate the realness. My hair wants to lock too bad for twists of any size. Sticking with 3-5 day WNGs with ample gel to help separate hydrated and conditioned strands. Thanks again for the upload.
Your hair is beautiful. Thanks for the thorough video. I left some micro braids in for over 3 months while I was in nursing school. I regretted it cuz it took forever to take down and the tangling was real! I also needed a trim really bad 😢
love the quality of your videos :)
The patience >>
My current mini braids are in for 5 months now😂
Thanks for the steaming tip ...I will try that next. Your hair has grown a lot thanks for sharing!
I liked twists so much that I was wearing them all the time, I would continuously redo them that it just made sense to lock my hair😂😂😂
You have such beautiful hair😍💕✨
Back in the day, I would rock a style for three months. I would take it down and it wouldn’t be too bad with the shedding or breakage. This was before I know what I know now after my natural hair care journey, and there are so many more products out there to help with detangling!
If its one thing i know, its if you are going to do a protective style for a long period of time. make sure its a loose, simple, hair style with large parts.
I LOOOOOVE to see how happy your twists made you! I feel like that deep sigh before the takedown… that moment where you realize you gonna miss not having to do your hair. The natural girls’ constant war on the inside! 😂😅
I’m just saying… if you were to lock up, you’d have such a beautiful head of hair and most likely locs down to your low back in NO TIME!!! 😏
Thank you for this detailed video. ❤ You and your hair are gorgeous 😊
A month tops, it’s the itching that gets me more than anything
I keep all my protective styles in between 6 to 8 weeks. Before each style I prep my hair with leave in Conditioner, and oils. When I wash my hair before and after taking out protective styles I always deep condition. I never have matting or any breakage or excessive shedding. I take care of my hair even when in a protective style
I just brushed mine out after 3 weeks, and it was literally matted at the base and was half locs 😭 for waiting 3 months to take your hair down, it looks good!
I keep my faux locs in for just about 6 months every time i get them done and its literally the best thing for my hair
Those broke my hair off so bad 😞 I love em but I am still traumatized that I will only do crochet faux locs.
Just motivated me to convert my medium twists to smedium twists. Took a couple hours so rip sleep but should be worth it.
those mini twist looks so good
This was a good video. I have left crochet braids in my hair for over three months and the breakage was more than expected. I used the African Pride pre shampoo cream with Aloe Vera to detangle my hair and it works pretty good. I said I will never leave crochet braids in my hair that long ever again! So I can relate to what happened with your hair but in a different way. Thanks so much for the tips on the hja9r steamer.
girl... congrats on starting your loc journey
Heavy on the pre- tangling!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
The longest is 2 months never again. Amazing content ❤
I’m about to be on year 5 of my protective style of locs 😎 come July. Loctician here and I’m LOVING it! 🥰
I love how real you are with your hair 😂
I find that taking down twists on dry hair is better. When its wet it feel like it breaks more and is faster to know. At least finger comb out while its dry to get rid of the matting.
I went off to college and my hair was transitioning. Got box braids and left them in for 4 months. Went to the salon and she was able to cut off the rest of the relaxer. We were all worried about my hair but it was actually thick and healthy
Your hair is so beautiful
I definitely needed to see this last week... I still haven't been able to fully detangle my hair. Left my hair in too long 🤦🏾😭
Your air texture is so bouncy and beautiful omg!!!
That’s why mini braids is my to go hairstyle. I leave it for 3-4 months
Hey Isi.... Chitown girlie (Hillside). I recently did a 4 month sprint with small two-strand twists. I felt so free and confident. First time ever rocking my natural hair on vacation and will be twisting my crown up in the next couple of weeks to enjoy Summer Time Chi ❤ thanks for your vlog 14:17
Great video thanks for sharing your journey and hair update 😊❤.
Isi sis, come through with the contraptions! My Amazon cart just got happier!
This is crazy! I was literally thinking about you last night (but I did not remember your name 😅) and then today you just popped up in my recommended. glad to see you’re doing well!
I feel this pain deep in my soul! I am so sorry. I learned the hard way too. Medium twists forever.
I think you will look really nice with locs
End of November to the end of march is the longest protective style I had, versatile kinky straight sew in
I had starter locs for 7months before I combed them out. I had bad psoriasis on my headline and was just over IT but worth the growth 😂 thinking about doing it again
I have had them in for about two months....I think 🤔. I usually wash my hair while in mini twists and then I moisture, detangle and retwist each twist. I retwist 1/3 each day. It takes hours but it is worth it. The growth is insane. I will do a full head take down soon. Thanks for the tip on using the steamer to help take down the twists!!
Whew now I don’t feel too bad about having mine in for 3 months. Taken it out now for my birthday 😭
Can we just talk about how FLAWLESS Isi’s skin is ! ✨😌😩🤩😇🤗
Clear and glowing. I peeped it too
I leave mine in no more than 3/4 weeks whew 10 hours is craaaazy
I put mine in in the midst of your 3 months .. I tried to keep mine in for 3 as well and took them down after a month .. my hair was so hard it to take down I thought how did she keep hers in for so long and mine is giving me hell 😭 glad to know
I started mini twists 3 months ago, my locs are looking good lol
Welcome back 💖
This why l do mini braids instead of mini twist. l had mini twist just 2 months and l experience a lot of breakage when l took it out so l decided to switch to mini braids and it works best for me. Even though l do experience bit of breakage, it’s not as compared to when l had mini twist on.
taking notes thanks
Yes they will begin to loc. That's how I started my microlocs
If you ever wanted locs those twists would be gorgeous starter locs !
I think I also had 3 months protective style. I redo my style espesially in front because it will get build up and tangled and that is NO joke. I learned my lesson as well.
You helped me a lot with tips
Now looking to watch your video after 3 days 🏃🏾♀️🏃🏿♂️
@isi you should have just join the loc community!
with a major protective style (braids, crochet anything, etc.) ngl i be pushing it two to three months as well 😭 but, i try to upkeep with moisture. on the day to day, I keep cornrows and what not, for two weeks max.
This reminds me of me combing out my 2 yr locs similar process but I’ve been at it for about two months and I have 20 to go😂 I been snipping my ends, having a big plastic bag for dead hair, and twisting them up
Do mini braids next!! 👀
What's the name of the hair steamer you are using?! I love it!!!! Nice video!!!
