As long as you're breathing your hair is growing!!! Focus on low tension hairstyles, healthy and moisturised hair/ends, and a clean scalp!!! Length retention is key
I wash my hair once a week. But I’ve been making sure I prepoo, deep condition with oil, and finally end with doing a apple cider rinse and that seems to be helping the dry scalp and flaking. So far so good with trying this method for a month
I also struggle with a flaky scalp. The biggest thing that helped me was using grease. Specifically, the blue magic mega-grow. I also made sure that I was not allergic to the product I was using. I think that many people forget that the scalp is also skin and don't take into account the possibility of being allergic to a certain product. Finally I routinely deep conditioned my hair. I do every other week but find what works for you. And I would make sure my hair was moisturized before putting it in protective styles. One more thing sorry this is long but I would test product compatibility before putting it in my hair. So I would rub together whatever products I was using in my hand and if it turned white I knew it would flake and if it was clear it didn't. I hope this helps! Also, love the energy in your videos.
I really appreciate how you stated how long this process is for extremely curly thick hair alot of people don't realize how long it actually takes 😅 and how patient you have to be with your hair ❤❤ #absolutely beautiful
Sulphur 8 is fantastic. I couldn’t use grease or any type of product on my scalp for a long time because they exacerbated the itching and flakes. But having no product didn’t really solve my dry scalp issue and it became a big inconvenience. I was just about to resign myself to cut my hair so I could wash my scalp more often but I wanted to give myself one more chance and I happened to stumble upon Sulphur 8. This product works like a charm! I use it after every wash and I can keep my styles in for 3 weeks with little to no itching. Some people hate the smell but I love it.
i was scrolling to see if anyone recommended this! i’ve had issues with dry, flaky scalp since a child as well. i mixed sulphur 8 with another hair grease and oil a few years ago. since then i’ve seen a significant decrease in flaking. i still don’t grease consistently, so dryness of course occurs here and there. i’ve also noticed an increase in how long i can tolerate hair styles. going on four weeks with braids as we speak, so far i have greased my scalp once.
4:05 oh. my. GOD. I ALWAYS think this is only me, but I’m so glad others do this too 🥹 I’m 15, and this sometimes happen on school nights, so you can IMAGINE the stress that happens the next day 😭
For problematic scalp, you should try shikaikai and/or neem paste (just mix it with warm water). Put it on your scalp for 30min minimum and do the rest of your wash day (shikaikai is a natural shampoo so you don't need to do another one after) Do it every week for a month at least and tadaaaa healthy scalp!
Your hair density is GLORIOUS! The twist turned out amazing! I used to love putting mini twist in my hair now I’m entirely to spooked to sit still and do the complete install myself.😅
the as i am dry & itchy scalp line helped me a lot with my dry scalp. i used the co wash but i hear the shampoo and oil treatment are really good too!!
For dry and flaky scalp, I understand that you can use Listerine, for it was originally developed just for that purpose. I have also used Scalpicin, which works great. With using either of these, you do not have to do anything extra. Just apply to the scalp using the applicator bottle. Good luck! By the way, your hair looks MARVELOUS!
I've been SERIOUSLY contemplating micro/sister locs for the past couple of weeks (my Pinterest main feed is proof lol)!!! But then I remember how much I like to see my hair open lol. Though, if microlocs can be combed out with minimal breakage then I just might.....🤔
If ur hair is similar to her texture...you can legit leave ur mini twists in for 2-3 months and still take them down...they will look like locs. They will still come out. You can palm roll ur new growth. I’ve only done it once bc i actually prefer mini twists over locs on myself...but if ur down for the detangling session, you literally can install temporary locs on ur real hair. Good luck!
I’ve been wearing my hair in mini twists for most of the year and finally found a remedy for my dry scalp. I spray warm water on my roots and massage JBCO into my scalp. Then I wrap it with a scarf until it dries. Never thought I could wear my twists past a month, but I’m at six weeks with no flakes or dryness
I had locs for a year and 6 months. I then decided I missed my fro with an incurable passion. I am now 90% done with the take down and I so happy to have it back!
Every damn time I do my locs I consider locking them up, and the happiness and gratification I get from my afro and successful washdays keep me from locking them up. I have minitwists now and the number of times I've contemplated leaving them in as sister locs hehe, totally relate! Your hair is too cute🤩
Tips for flaky scalp - head and shoulders (almond 2 in 1) as a shampoo (use lightly as it can be drying), scalp massager to get into the scalp, also essential oils (tea tree/peppermint mixed with carrier oil grapeseed, a little bit of castor oil, indian coconut oil), apple cider vinegar rinses in the shower (as pre-pro spray into scalp) I'm still learning but these have helped me, I also try to avoid product build up.
I’m so glad that I found your channel. I was considering microlocs but I already de-locd once after only like 10 months because I missed my loose natural hair. So this will give me that feel without committing to locing! Thanks!😊
I love Mielle Products as well. This is first time I heard of someone not using product while doing mini twists. Your hair is beautiful. You are Beautiful! TFS❤
‘ 7:45, have you tried Indian hemp hair and scalp treatment. The grease is affordable and great for applying especially when you are wearing a protective style for weeks or months.
I still have a short cut but this is literally going to be the only style I get. I’m so tender headed so I need low maintenance styles and these are easy to moisturize and wash. Thank you, your hair is gorgeous!
boiling cloves, mint leaves, and rosemary together along with essential oils(optional) completely cured my flaky scalp it was so severe and my hair grew almost an inch with two weeks of me using it which is also a plus. Now i hardly get any flakes at all even without using the mixture.
ACV rinses will help your scalp’s PH! I try to do one every 2 weeks at least; I work out regularly, and it’s been a great way to cleanse the sweat and dirt from my scalp instead of cowashing. It’s also a great natural conditioner and doesn’t leave my hair feeling stripped
Lemme put you on … my scalp used to be very flaky ever since I started studying overseas. So I use the clove water with rosemary and it does the job for me !
I have flaky scalp too after 3 days. I use blue magic on my scalp and I kid you not I went 2 weeks without washing my hair just to test it and I had no flakes or itching. After I do my mini twists I just go back through with the blue magic. I dampen my scalp with a spray bottle of water as well.
I know this is a bit late but if you spritz your hair with clove water within a very short time you will never have a flakey scalp again. Guaranteed. 😁👍🏾
i absolutely love your results and have been trying to perfect my mini twists each time i do it. i never blowed my hair for them, but i love how your hair is still stretched with no heat. how do you stretch your hair with no heat before mini twisting ?
I have micro locs and I use head and shoulders clinical shampoo for my scalp. It works wonders for me. I also use the Royal Oils by head and shoulders. My scalp is really good. Gon head and lox your hair sis.
Very nice video. Straight to the point. To help with your dry scalp. You can use a mixture of apple cider vinegar with "the mother's" (Braggs for example). 1part vinegar and 2-3 parts water. This vinegar serves as medicinal purposes. This also gets your hair back to a normal ph balance by cleansing the cuticles of your hair/ scalp.
Girl I had the same issue growing up! I cured it with First Aid beauty’s anti-dandruff serum and the matching shampoo. I tried everything and because of this product I’ve been flake free for about 2 years now. Wild. Hopefully it works for you too! (If you decide to try it ❤)
Hot oil treatments pre poos with a heated cap as a start to every wash day. If my scalp feels inflamed or itchy/ flaky i put a little tea tree oil and rosemary oil in there. I like jojoba oil and aegan oil in my hair, castor oil on my scalp. I then shampoo out...then shampoo and deep condition. I use protein every other wash. I style my hair on exclusively stretched (blown out) hair…i loooovvveee a 4 week mini twist set.
You are beautiful❤Mini twistest... weekly hot oil treatments using extra virgin olive oil worked wonders for me also occasionally grease your scalp using sulfur 8 yellow jar...
I keep my hair in mini twist 98% of the time. I take about 15 hours to complete mine and that is mainly because I am obsessed with a neat grid. I also have a scalp condition called Psoriasis which causes flaking in areas of my scalp. The best thing I have used is a medicated shampoo and medicated cream that was recommended from my dermatologist. I keep my twist in for about 3 months and wash my hair once a month.
ive been doing spring twists with extensions for a while and i love how natural it looks but idk...im so lost these days..ive had a pretty tough relationship with my hair, relaxed since young age, did a big chop in 2016 because solange taught me how to love my natural hair. it was good for a while but then i started to braid them all the time and went back to hating how i feel with my natural hair. the spring twist i have now took me 2 days to do, usually i do it one go but i did them rly small only to kinda hate it and the rain ruining and puffing my sh*t on top of everything....ig you could say im kind of at my wits end with my hair. i feel like i should at least give my 4c a chance again, even if i feel insecure. idk this video is kinda convincing me (my hair is about as long as yours stretched out) im basically thinking out loud srry, but yeah...could be nice to grow them out fr. because when i braid with rubber bands i make it so tight i dont let my hair breathe i genuinely dgaf and dont take care of it..maybe if i gave some love to it id get it back
I used to get those flakes after just a few days and one day a stylist told me to get it checked out by the dermy. The prescription they gave me didn’t solve it but washing my scalp with nizoral (I use good stuff on my strands) and I stopped air drying. Now I can go weeks and weeks without a single flake.
Me and my sons have thick dry flaky scalp so we use selsun blue medicated shampoo on the regular but we also add apple cider vinegar to the shampoo every 4th wash to clean and control the flakes. See if that works for you. BTW, you have a blessed head a hair
Your hair is gorgeous. Apple Cider Vinegar worked for me to get rid of flakes - directly to the scalp or a rinse. The smell can be masked with an essential oil.
Sometimes I get flakey scalp too. I use dandruff shampoo and just rub it on my scalp. I probably do this once a month. I use a spray bottle with rosemary tea in it and spray that directly to my scalp. I do this almost daily. For extra moisture I sometimes put blue magic on my scalp but that may be to heavy for you. I hope this works for you.😊
this looks so cute at that length! i got the urge to cut my hair almost three inches, so now it's up to my upper collarbone/neck, and now that i want to do this style, i feel like i'm going to be disappointed. here's to hoping it comes out well, though!
Your twists are so beautiful, and you are too! I had problems with flaking too. I use the tea rinse from Bloomballa Beauty on my scalp on every other wash day. My flakes are gone now. Look into tea rinses, especially if u want something more natural.
My daughter use to have this problem with dry scalp. I use selsum blue shampoo mix with head and shoulder. You don't have to use alot of the sel blue. This Is a game changer. Make sure your scraping your scalp add oil of choice then scratch area with a rat tail comb. Then shampoo.
Peppermint oil make sure it’s (pure) and it is really good for that cause I had the same problem growing up 😢and pro tip I add it to my shampoo and conditioner so you don’t have to put directly on your scalp cause it do cause irritation if you use to much ❤
One thing I do to manage a dry and flaky scalp is manage my water intake. Sometimes we forget that it's not just what we do to our hair but what we do to our entire body. Also, I try to get to my scalp at least two, maybe three times a week. I hate using the bottle with the pointed tip to get oil onto my scalp because I don't like having to deal with the oil running down my face! 😩 So I blend my oil with water and lightly spray my scalp every few days and make sure that it's an oil that smells nice.
i spend between 2-4 weeks with them in before taking them out and rocking the fro for a week or so. then i’ll wash my hair and restart the process. i never wash my hair with the twists in. 🙃
To get rid of the flakes on my scalp I get some aloe vera blended with any scalp oil of your choice strain it then apply it as a preepoo now when I'm ready to comb it I just lightly comb the flakes right off
Hey what would you recommend. I would love to know adding braiding hair to the twist will slow down the growing process or should I do twists on natural hair? Also do you have to put in leave in conditioner or can you just use products like blue magic
adding hair to your style will not slow down the growing process, as long as it’s not tight on the scalp. i would probably just use blue magic on the scalp and leave in conditioner on the stands. i hope this helped ! 💗💗💗
Your results are absolutely beautiful. I have long 3c hair but it’s so tin so it always comes out looking a mess, I’m going to continue trying different methods though
I also have a dry scalp! I don’t know why since being natural we or I should say I don’t grease my scalp. Our parents use to grease our scalp back in the day and our hair was thick and healthy. I don’t know why I got away from that, but I noticed when I grease my scalp my hair doesn’t flake or itch as much.
Your micro locs would be so beautiful omg. I had micro locs I loved them. I accidentally cut my hair too short and they just came out. So now I'm loose natural again, growing my hair out until it gets to the length and density that I want to loc it up again. locs are so much easier to maintain than loose hair. I miss them so much lol.
I moisturize my scalp while Wet, after shampooing my hair. I have used oil, body lotion or light hair grease to moisturize my scalp. After 2 months you should see a reduction in flakes.
Great content! Thanks for sharing. Your hair is gorgeous. How long do they last? What is ur routine to maintain them? How is the frizz during the maintenance phase? Thanks.
thank you ! i keep them in for up to three or four weeks. to maintain them, i keep them in a scarf and bonnet at home. any pieces that become frizzy or tangled, re-twist it on slight. 💗
For me I wash once a week no oils or anything on my scalp and I use a medicinal soup you can get from Walmart or wherever. My scalp has thanked me it took a few weeks to notice the difference but it's soo much better!!!
i blow dry with shea butter. shea butter is my heat protectant and moisturizer. check out my blow dry routine or my latest hair care routine video. i explain how i do it in those two videos. ❤️
I prayed and asked God to make my hair grow. I believe he is going to come through.
Mini twists are super beneficial for hair growth and thickening of hair.

how do you maintain yours? im having trouble with mine frizzing and loosening up too soon :(
I wash my hair once a week. But I’ve been making sure I prepoo, deep condition with oil, and finally end with doing a apple cider rinse and that seems to be helping the dry scalp and flaking. So far so good with trying this method for a month
seems like apple cider vinegar really works. i must try it 👏🏾
Is there a specific brand of apple cider vinegar you use?

Try using an aloe vera plant and put it on your scalp
Products with sulphur do help with flaking esp in humid climates.

😂😂😂 no waaaayyy ! that’s about to be me if i keep leaving mine in for too long.
Have you tried Miele pomegranate and honey twisting soufflé? I love it, it so soft and thick
i havent ! i’ll look into it !!
I hope this works for you.😊
this looks so cute at that length! i got the urge to cut my hair almost three inches, so now it's up to my upper collarbone/neck, and now that i want to do this style, i feel like i'm going to be disappointed. here's to hoping it comes out well, though!
just try it out! mini twist are sooo cute on short hair too!
Your twists are so beautiful, and you are too! I had problems with flaking too. I use the tea rinse from Bloomballa Beauty on my scalp on every other wash day. My flakes are gone now. Look into tea rinses, especially if u want something more natural.
im sorry if you already answered this but do use water and re add products when doing this so your hair dont get dried?
My daughter use to have this problem with dry scalp. I use selsum blue shampoo mix with head and shoulder. You don't have to use alot of the sel blue. This Is a game changer. Make sure your scraping your scalp add oil of choice then scratch area with a rat tail comb. Then shampoo.
Peppermint oil make sure it’s (pure) and it is really good for that cause I had the same problem growing up 😢and pro tip I add it to my shampoo and conditioner so you don’t have to put directly on your scalp cause it do cause irritation if you use to much ❤
New subbie!! Your hair is gorgeous!!! 😍😍😍
ahhhh !!! hiii, thanks for subscribing 🙈💗
Sulphur 8's Five Star Scalp cream for itchy, dry, flakey scalp. It's not oily or greasy and super light on the scalp. Hope it works!
I love your mini twist. I can't live without mine. I also use Mielle product Love it! I cannot find those scrunchies you use help
Very beautiful!!!! How do you keep your hair from drying out since you don’t put products on it?
i use shea butter 🤭
Sorry if you answered this already but how long do you leave them in before redoing? Do you wash your hair with the twists in?
i spend between 2-4 weeks with them in before taking them out and rocking the fro for a week or so. then i’ll wash my hair and restart the process.
i never wash my hair with the twists in. 🙃
hey how do i stretch out my hair without using heat??? love you videos by the way
To get rid of the flakes on my scalp I get some aloe vera blended with any scalp oil of your choice strain it then apply it as a preepoo now when I'm ready to comb it I just lightly comb the flakes right off
ouuuu ill add that to my list of things to try !! 👏🏾
gonna be doing mini twists too in the coming wks!
i hope you love ittt !! tag me on instagram so i can see how it turned out. ☺️
Omg I love the install video, could you do the dame with mini braids ? From prep (blow drying) to the braids install pleaaase ? 🙏❤️
awww, i’m sorry! i dont think mini braids is a style that i’d attempt anytime soon. 😭
Your results are absolutely beautiful. I have long 3c hair but it’s so tin so it always comes out looking a mess, I’m going to continue trying different methods though
you got this ! find what works best for you. 🫶🏾
"I have a code, I can say that now" lmaooo I'm new here and this brought me so much joy!
🥹🫶🏾 i hope you stay a while !
Your micro locs would be so beautiful omg. I had micro locs I loved them. I accidentally cut my hair too short and they just came out. So now I'm loose natural again, growing my hair out until it gets to the length and density that I want to loc it up again. locs are so much easier to maintain than loose hair. I miss them so much lol.
that’s why i love mini twists. its like having the best of both worlds ! i’ll lock up later on in life though. 🤭💗
I moisturize my scalp while Wet, after shampooing my hair. I have used oil, body lotion or light hair grease to moisturize my scalp. After 2 months you should see a reduction in flakes.
you used body lotion to moisturize your hair ??? thats a first. 😅
I LOVE my mini twists but I have NEVER considered locs of any kind. I cannot make that commitment. I always want an out. :)
Dark and Lovely Tension Tamer for use on your Scalp. Your twists are beautiful.
thank you !! 💗 i’ll look into trying that.
For me I wash once a week no oils or anything on my scalp and I use a medicinal soup you can get from Walmart or wherever. My scalp has thanked me it took a few weeks to notice the difference but it's soo much better!!!
you look so much like sza omg 😍😍😍
i’m starting to get that alot. 😭💗
How do you take care of your hair while in these twists and maintain it for a long time?
Yes sis! Super cute! ❤
thank you 💗🙈
So with no product did you blow dry first with some type protective spray then you moisturize later
i blow dry with shea butter. shea butter is my heat protectant and moisturizer. check out my blow dry routine or my latest hair care routine video. i explain how i do it in those two videos. ❤️
12:56 What wonderful hair!! ❤
