Composed as part of Shostakovich’s Suite for Variety Orchestra - Waltz No. 2 is one of the composer’s most famous works. The suite was composed post-1956, and was subsequently used as part of the soundtrack for the Russian film The First Elechon. The suite itself is comprised of eight small movements, all of which are scored for a large orchestra. The ‘variety’ element is supported by Shostakovich’s addition of a full saxophone section, a celeste and two pianos. In the composer’s note at the start of the score, Shostakovich writes that the movements can be played in any order, and they do not all have to be played in one performance. Waltz No. 2 is certainly the most famous from the suite.

This makes me want to practice my piano more 😅
Do it! :)

I was thinking the same thing...
@Rose_gold I just passed my grade 1 exam 😊😁
@Rose_gold Thank you 😊
Played this song for my 5th year piano exam
I read somewhere that Shostakovich composed this after hearing/reading a description of jazz music, then tried to compose his own "jazz" hence why there is a sax and trombone solo in the original score.
I definitely believe that considering that it’s not Jazz in the slightest. Still good music though.
Oh yes definitely classical waltz. Gives me tchaik vibes (king of waltz
He did know influential jazz musicians like art tatum, but I dont think he made any solo piano pieces nearly as complicated as art
da goat I tried to learn Tea for Two by Art Tatum and it was so frustrating it made me cry. and I have a degree in piano
@@kathleenleonemakesmusic tea for two really is aids with its left hand jumps, having said that I learnt it, and you should have no difficulty if you just take your time and build up speed. Tiger rag on the other hand had me crying
Not sure what this song is about, but I could feel a sense of sadness and happiness at the same time. Nice playing!
Thank you for the kind words! :) Best wishes!
It's a waltz, but I'm sure is about deception and hope.
@A.H lmaaaooo
@@juanpablogutierrezblanco3811 Thanks for your info. I can tell it’s a waltz from the title 🙂
Btw, how did you know this piece is about deception and hope?
@@hoangminhnhat5776 my guess is it’s because it’s by Shostakovich... hope because it sounds happier than a lot of pieces, deception because he constantly had to deceive Stalin and those helping him to allow his music to be accepted. If I had to guess, again because it’s by Shostakovich, and because of the title, I’d think it would be a slightly tongue-in-cheek imitation of jazz, not that he hated it or even disliked it, but rather he was asked to write jazz and didn’t want to...
It's suprisingly not that hard. I'm really out of practice, just getting back into playing the piano after a long while but after playing this every day for a week I can see myself actually learning this in a month or so to some acceptable level. Thanks for the video! It's great inspo
Glad you enjoyed it and I am happy you are back at playing the piano :)
Wow you got big hands
This piece will always be special to me, there's not anything else in the world that could make me feel the same

One of Shostakovich best compositions :)
Beautiful. Will look in my books if I have this piece. It doesn't look to be too difficult to play , but sounds so beautiful.
This is the music they played in the tour bus when I was in Prague. I love it so much I learned to play it on the piano when I got back to L.A.
You're my favourite pianist. This gave a lot of emotions. It makes me sad and at the same time it makes me happy. Very beautiful. 💖💖💖
Thank you very much for the kind words! :)
SO BEAUTIFUL AS ALWAYS!!!!! Thank you for this famous well-known Waltz by my favourite
Shostakovich and for an excellent performance (already I have my playlist with your 119 videos), congratulations for over 33.000 subscribers to your great channel, again my best wishes from Poland, have a nice Sunday.
Thank you so much Joanna for the kind words and the support!! :)) Best wishes to you as well :)
One of my favourite pieces. Love your version.
Thank you very much! :)
Thank you for your performance again. I really like the different way of video editing - instead of the popular Piano Hero way, you are using the sheet music. I think this is not as interesting for the majority of people that can't read sheet music , but for the rest is very interesting and priceless. Thank you !
Thank you very much my friend! :)
О, привет братьям-болгарам!)
My legs out of control to dance with this music

Thanks man :) I did that on purpose since this was the way I played it with the trio in Germany when I worked there. And people seemed to like it as well :)

I totally agree . Other versions are either much simplified or very hard and this one is between both so I love it . Just by curiosity ,how many years of piano courses do you believe that are needed in order to learn it ? ( I’m an autodidact so it took me a few months )
