I got a water-pump-in-a-bucket based indoor drip irrigation system for my patio plants because I have zero consistency with my water when I got my stimulus check. My plants have never looked this amazing ever. Lolol
So I was much like you Brian when it came to drip irrigation, costly and to difficult were my thoughts. Then I found Mr. Landscaper irrigation at Lowe's. Very affordable and exceptionally easy especially with their video tutorials. I now have one for my front landscaping, another on the side of my house and a 4 line timer for the back yard that waters 2 landscaping beds, all pots and the garden. The timer is very easy to set and has made my gardening less stressful and everything looks fantastic. I had a neighbor walking past my house this week and she asked me who did my landscaping as she wanted to hire them to do her yard. When I told her I did it all she said it looked wonderful and professionally done. What a compliment!
Tip. When assembling the 1/2" or 1/4" tubing to fittings, take a thermos filled with boiling hot water and soak 1-2" of the end of the tubing in the hot water for 10 seconds. Fittings will slide right in. Now for my question. Based on the mfgrs flow rate of 0.5 gal/hour for the brown 1/4" tubing with emitters every 6", how long on average, do you run the water? Seems like it would take a long time to get enough water down to the deep roots.
I'm a gardener and I have seen a sprinklers system that have a dripping zone for the cedar wall, the setting at the system panel is set for over an hour. So, it gives you the idea how long it takes to have enough water to go down to the roots.
I work the nightshift which can get problematic with consistency. It would be a load off my mind knowing my garden is being watered and taking care of while i sleep. Love your videos, and your giveaways are much appreciated. Cheers!
Cant tell you how much i enjoy your program and young Noah is a natural. Have only taken up gardening since retirement and our move away from London, we have divided the garden with a wooden bridge front end with flowers and plants and back end with vegetables and fruit trees. I now have my Courgettes and Marrow growing quite happily up stakes, i am also still growing new seeds for this year as i now know my first frost date. Each morning i am out early to hose our produce but worry that my friends and neighbors will be needed when we go on holiday to continue watering, so to me drip irrigation sounds a God send. Keep educating this novice with gardening tips. Thanks.
I’m in Connecticut & this is my first year gardening. Going out to water the garden during our multiple weeks heatwave was exhausting & my garden certainly suffered on days I didn’t do it. A drip system is definitely something I want before next summer.
Great video. My husband actually put some drip irrigation to my container tomatoes and a soaker hose in my small raised bed. He also bought the Orbit advanced timer but it has been nothing but trouble. When it worked it was so nice because I didn’t have to stand out in this 100 degree Houston heat and try to keep everything watered. It watered deeper and more consistently. But then, it stopped working only after two months. He set it up just like they suggested. This sounds like a great timer. So glad you shared this information. Blessings to you.🥰👩🌾🌻
Great video Brian! The terrible part for me, is I’ve had all the drip materials sitting in my garage for the last month. Every... and I mean “every” time I water, I think about the drip. You are very correct that about it being such a time saver. It just takes some effort (well, time) to put it in. Sooo worth it tho! I gotta say too - your video is far more informative, understandable, and to the point, than any other drip “how-to” video that I’ve seen. Thanks again!
With adding new raised beds, plus the increasing drought conditions we are getting here in summer I know I need drip irrigation in my garden. I've been putting it off as when I check out suppliers here, it all seems so complicated to install. And yet you actually make it seem simple, so I'm re inspired. Another reason for wanting drip irrigation is so I can actually go camping in the summer without worrying whether my plants are dying - and so I will need a timer. As always I appreciate your great gardening support and education. Enjoyed the hens bopping around in their garden home.
We have been trying to get started with drip our garden has expanded far more than we planned on with the help of your videos we added about 5x the space onto our garden this year. It takes well over an hour to water right now. Thank you for all your great videos.
Ok, it’s May 2022 and I’ve ordered my 1/2 inch 100 ft irrigation hose, timer, the fittings, etc. now I’m waiting for everything to come in. I went with one brand to be sure everything fits. Well, except for the timer and Y fitting. My tomatoes went in the ground last month as did cucumbers, zucchini, radishes, yellow squash, green pepper, jalapeños and my sage and one green pepper plant I covered with pine straw and they survived the winter! Thank you for making me feel that I can do this! Im 58 and physically challenged but I’m trying for the first time in over 20 years! Thanks again! -KS
😍 I'm a 1st year gardener 🌾I have had a hard time keeping up on watering because I'm disabled. The drip irritation is perfect for someone with mobility issues 🤗. Thank you for all your advice. You're videos has helped keep my hsrden alive. I especially love the Neptune's Harvest it's an amazing product.
I know it is best for us to do drip, but with our size garden it might be pricey. I would love to have that for next year though. Thanks for this video. We watched it as a family, all nine kiddos enjoyed it, mainly your dog at the end. Once again, short, precise, and to the point. Thank-you for this giveaway.
First time commenting on anything! I live in Tamworth Australia and I'm starting my own veggie garden. I've seen a couple of video's of yours and I've decided to make a patch of tomatoes as well as a different variety of other fruit and veg! Thank you for your video's, they have been very helpful! 🌱🌱🍅🍅
I've wanted to try the drip system in my garden for a while now. I'm disabled and use a cane. It's a little intimidating at times. Having a drip system would allow me that saved time to actually enjoy the garden and even do more maintenance. Thank you for doing this for us! 😍
I planted two gardens this year; one at my house and one at my mom's. I thought it'd be nice for my mom to go out and watch her garden grow...sprinkle a little water on it, and get some food from it. However, having just had her 96 birthday on august 12th, she has reached a time in her life where she no longer walks as well as she'd like and doesn't trust herself outside anymore. So, I've been watering at both places..and begging my brother and sister to go over every now and then a fill in for me. I've been thinking about setting up drip for her...it'll be an adventure! A timer would be the perfect addition!
This video is timely. I was just thinking the other day how I spend 45 minutes twice a day to water my plants. It's hot in Texas and I am getting exhausted. Thanks for explaining the process. I see how automating the process can save me time but didn't even think about savings on my water bill.
I also love my drip system, and am currently installing drip tape on all my beds. One recommendation I would suggest is installing a 6" flex hose and small particle screen between your faucet and timer. It can get expensive if the timer accidentally gets bumped.
I have a drip system using a sprinkler system with is 4 different section which is control by wifi. I can control how much and how long i water and it's the best thing anybody can do bc it free you up to do other things definitely a thumb up.
I’ve used three kinds of drip in my gardens. PVC and drip tape on closely spaced row crops and the kind you showed for things farther apart. I put my tomatoes 5’ apart, peppers 2 1/2’ apart. So I used 2 gallon per hour emitters on most things, but for smaller potted things I use 1/2 gallon per hour. For some things I use one gallon per hour.
@@lindajwilson9848 it depends on how dry it is. In the summer I might set the timer for two hours and be suing 2 gph emitters. That means I’m giving each tomato plant 4 gallons of water over a slow, two hour time. A smaller potted plant might only need a half gallon of water so if you put on a half gallon per hour emitter, set the timer for one hour. It’s really simple.
Something to pay attention to when purchasing the half inch hose and the fittings is to makes sure the outside diameter (O.D.) is the same. Some are 0.700 O. D., some are 0.710 O.D. The 0.700 O.D. seems to be more common.
Hahaha so that's why I had all the trouble with lines and drippers popping off and soaking me🤣Well...lesson learned and I must say, my hubby got some good laughs out of it.
Thanks for another excellent tutorial! QUESTIONS for FAQ Friday: Do you recommend less frequent deep watering over more frequent shallower watering? How do you decide which method works best and how often to water? Finally, can you regulate each bed to have a different volume using the valves at each bed, if needed?
My husband installed a rain barrel and drip irrigation for me for Mother's Day a few years ago. It's one of the best gifts I ever got! We made a new bed this summer and it needs drip asap.
Hi Brian. I noticed you didn’t mention the lack of industry standards around the sizing of the “1/2” inch tubing. At 8:39 in this video, for example, I see you trying to ram a black no-stripe tube into a blue ringed 90. I’d just like to point out to your viewers that while there isn’t an industry standard for exact sizing of this tubing, manufacturers do try to be reasonable about it. You should try to match the fittings color rings to hose with a stripe of the same color. In this example, a blue striped hose will slip more easily into a fitting with blue end rings. Common colors include blue, green, and brown striped hose and ringed fittings, and all black hose with all black fittings. Thanks for the great series. Loving every episode.
Thank you so much for this tip. This is what is missing in so many of the videos. I have purchased from amazon and home depot and nothing I have done has worked in getting the 1/2" poly tube to fit into the converter. It's so frustrating. thank you very much. You just saved many of us hours of unnecessary heart ache.
There are universal compression fittings that solve the problem of using different size tubing. Make sure you note the size tubing. I think it only applies when using the 1/2 in tubing.
I am enjoying my first year of gardening vegetables. I get a lot of helpful information while viewing your videos. We ( my daughter and I) started some cucumbers two Saturdays ago. I need to keep my Sugar Snap Peas and my tomatoes 🍅 well watered. Keep up the great work you are doing;you encourage us and help us to enjoy gardening all the more!
Hey Brian, I am actually posting on here for my mom. She is your number on fan. She watches your videos daily and actually got into gardening because of that. She is 65 years old and spends most of her time at home. She has trouble walking so going everyday to the farm to water it is not easy.... and it is kinda costly to pay someone to do it. I would really love to surprise her with this drip timer so she can use it on her tomato farm. Thanks
@@NextLevelGardening Thanks. How often would you do that or you would just wait for a sign that shows that there is too much sediment i.e. probably stop to water effectively?
@@artinhertz5143 I have a line filter and check it every 6 mos. So far there has been very little sediment. The most important thing to have is the back flow valve!! It prevents water being sucked back into the water line in the house. You should have one on every outside faucet. Sold at all the big box stores.
I had an acre in El.Cajon, CA. Filled with thousands of flowers and fruit trees. And my son in law put in these Drip systems, saved so much water, my water bill was reduced. And my plants were beautiful, because I had A timer on each section, one for my FRUIT TRRES, one for my Suclents etc. Because they went on at a certain time and for a certain amount of minutes or hours. The plants or trees were so totally happy and I never had to worry about them being too dry, I also had bird baths added on my drip system, so the bird baths were kept filed, that made for very happy birds ! Thank you for you very good informative video !
I visited Lowes a couple days ago and was so confused I simply gave up. Thanks a bunch for your video. I'm making a list, checking it twice, LOL. I just completed 2 raised garden beds 5x8 so I desperately need an easier way to water. Its HOT here in FL too!
The drip irrigation system would be so helpful for me. With the 90 plus temperatures here in South Carolina this past July and August I ended up being more soaked than the garden is by the time I water everything. I am such a beginner but I've been learning tons on your videos. I have to write everything down. My husband is amazed at my progress in the garden. Your wealth of information is amazing. Your presentation is perfect. You don't waste our time with what you have to share in your videos. You get to the point of your subject and don't make videos longer than they need to be. Thank you for everything you do for us. Signed: Misplaced California Girl :)
I absolutely NEED to put together drip irrigation for my Houston Texas container garden that I have been working on since this last Mother's Day for my 76 yr old mother whom has alzheimers. My mother has little left of her old self, she can not remember HOW to can or garden but she remembers that she DID and I am trying to bring her some contentment in her last bit of life before she is gone from us completely. My gardening failures this year are crushing me, that I am not able to provide her the lush type of garden that she enjoyed in central Illinois before she had to come live with me here. I have lost the battle against the blight issues I have been hit with, since I have been using a sprinkler system. I really need to install a drip system ASAP and try for a fall harvest. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TUTORIALS AND GUIDANCE!
That is a very nice gift for those of us who are retired on fixed income. My last garden was in 1989 and I am going to start again since making a living took all the time for all those years. I will be using 4x8x10" raised beds which I have made from a friends torn down deck 10 years ago. This has been a challenge since I am 75 and partially disabled in my right shoulder from a fall. It is true that you are never to old to learn something new. Wish me luck and keep those videos coming. Zone 9b.
I desperately need drip line irrigation! It literally takes me about 2 hours for the front and back. Your channel is awesome! Thank you for the garden inspiration.
With this pandemic and threat of food shortages, I planted not only the garden I was originally planning on having this year, but also a second one at the rear of our property. My only issue with that is getting back there to water. At the moment, I'm hauling 5-gallon jugs of water by hand, since that's easier than dragging my hose through a fence, my wife's hostas, and across my yard every time. I could run a buried drip irrigation line back there and really ramp up the efficiency of the back garden. Not to mention save my back!
This would be perfect for my needs. I’m in the process of building 3 new 40x50 garden beds in my pasture. I retire for good this time in February and a drip timer like this will make retirement much easier lol.
I hand water and it’s exhausting! I live in Arizona so having a timer that I could set and trust to water everything would be a small touch of HEAVEN! Thank you
Thank you for a great tutorial. I'm not planning on building an irrigation system as I am doing container gardening and don't want to put in anything permanent. I do want to thank you for the step by step, even going over the 'simple' details like how to poke the holes and what the plugs look like. If I needed to build one in the future, I know where to go for info.
I’ve been intimidated by starting a drip system but after watching your video I feel confident that I can install my own drip system... thank you... this video was very informative
This would certainly be a life changer for me, as every weekend we are traveling to rodeos for my son and every weekend I am so worried about how my gardens are going to look when I get home. I have a rock wall garden that is 85 feet long and many containers. This would be extremely helpful! Thank you Brian and wise orchard for this opportunity!!
Adding a drip system on a timer will solve my inconsistent watering issue and my neighbors won't have to see me out watering in my robe in the mornings. :) I love your podcasts and have learned so much. I got chickens from Dare2Dreams farms too and I probably picked them up from the same location you dropped the rooster off at.
I did it! I did it yesterday! Had to use a 16-gallon container and a water pump since there's no access to an outside faucet. The only thing I didn't know about was a pressure reducer, so I'm off to Home Depot or Ace--or wherever they have one--so that I can finally get my little system up and running. I am so excited about it! 😄
I have a container garden in my huge south looking balcony. It is the most rewarding hobby I ever had. Sometimes when I hand water I might forget one or 2 of the pots and I can imidiately see the difference especially if they are in their fruiting season. I definitely need one of those! I guess it could also work for vacation which would also be nice!
My watering hasn't been as consistent as I would like, I'm a first-time gardener and this would most definitely help my garden in this Rio Grande Valley TX triple digit heat 🤠I've learn so much by watching your TH-cam videos. Thanks
First off, you are one of two gardeners I watch religiously. You are actually the reason why my wife wants to paint our raised garden turquoise lol. Keep it up! Now about my garden: After a few years of experimenting with gardening in pots, I finally committed to my first raised garden this year. Unfortunately with COVID, my plans were pushed back into the summer. I finished mid-July (I live in Central Texas) and started with a summer garden, knowing that next year I'm going to get everything planted way earlier in the year. The first week after completion, we had temperatures around 105 degrees. I ran a water line from the house out to the garden, and I'm kicking myself for not going all-in with the drip irrigation. However, that is on the agenda for next year and should be a relatively easy add. I'll definitely come back to this video when that time comes.
Like to really make a sustainable garden in the desert climate. Have started small with a greenhouse and always loved to watch California Garden T.V. with the many videos and tips.
My oldest son and I were discussing this very subject earlier today. We have a friendly competition for our hot peppers and tomatoes. Thanks for the great information!
I recently subscribed to your channel because I have wanted to start gardening for a couple years but I live in Las Vegas area and I know that's a whole different type of gardening. I believe a drip system would push me over the hump to actually do this😁
I am the only one of the 10 kids that is interested in gardening, which was a passion my Dad had. When he passed away this April, I inherited most of his equipment. Every one of the timers was broken. I would love to have a timer.
Thanks for your videos, I’m not a gardener by trade, nor did I grow up with anyone who had gardening skills. So, needless to say my has been more than a little apprehensive about me tearing up her beautiful backyard. But I’ve shared your videos with her and what we have learned has given us the confidence to go for it. Since we’re starting from scratch, I will definitely put in the drip irrigation system first. Thanks again, and wish us luck.
I'm a rookie gardener thanks to my restlessness during the pandemic. Now I'm hooked and I'm going to be setting up a raised bed for my fall planting. And I'm definitely going to incorporate drop irrigation for the first time.
Drip irrigation makes water a garden so easy and with the ability to control it over wifi, amazing idea! Our hydrangea got over watered last year between the rain and our timer drip irrigation, to have the ability to turn it off with your phone is 👌
I like the information as I was wondering how to set up a drip system. I am expanding my garden with raised beds and your demo really helped. I never thought of putting the main line to the garden underground. Thanks
I had to abandon an old drip irrigation system that never worked and switched to compression, best thing I have done. Now to win an amazing timer. Thank you for taking the time to share with us your process. : )
Drip Irrigation will be great for my sister in law. Not only it will lower the plants getting disease from soil but also save a lot of money from watering the plants. Hope I will be the lucky one~ :D
We just finished our forever home and have zero landscaping. I love drip systems for all gardening/landscaping! What a pleasure it would be to connect the drip system timer to my phone and change things via the internet. Happy fall gardening everyone.
Thank you so much for the video. I have been watering by hands since last year which was my first year gardening. I spent so much time watering that I wanted to give up, sometimes. It's getting harder for me because of health issues, but I enjoy gardening so much, so I kept telling myself to just keep on going for as long as I can. Having the drip irrigation would definitely be a life changer for me. Thank you!
I have used drip irrigation for my vegetable garden before and am about to install it again. It really is convenient especially if you like to get out of town once in a while.
Drip irrigation is something I have been wanting to learn about to allow me more time during summers to get out with my kids and not have to be watering everything all the time! I really appreciate this video! Thank you!
This is the most intimidating part of my gardening life. I wake every morning and water with my hose.
It really isn't once you get started. 😃
Would like put drip irrigation to save water.
I got a water-pump-in-a-bucket based indoor drip irrigation system for my patio plants because I have zero consistency with my water when I got my stimulus check. My plants have never looked this amazing ever. Lolol

My husband installed a rain barrel and drip irrigation for me for Mother's Day a few years ago. It's one of the best gifts I ever got! We made a new bed this summer and it needs drip asap.
My watering consistency has been a nightmare. I need to make the switch to drip.
Do it and you will love it!
I am a teacher and this time of year there is little to no time to water. This would make life so much easier.
So isn't it possible to just buy everything from one source to eliminate the confusion?
Thank you 🙂
I'm having to water almost every day, so having drip would let me have a life and be away for a few days 😁
Ditto...Omgosh...a life past planting?? What's that!!??
Hey Brian, I am actually posting on here for my mom. She is your number on fan. She watches your videos daily and actually got into gardening because of that. She is 65 years old and spends most of her time at home. She has trouble walking so going everyday to the farm to water it is not easy.... and it is kinda costly to pay someone to do it. I would really love to surprise her with this drip timer so she can use it on her tomato farm. Thanks
Any maintenance needed for drip? What about the sediment that may build up overtime etc. Thanks, love your simplicity in explaining things! :)
Not much if you have a filter. It can be flushed to get sediment out when needed
Difficult decision... give up my quiet morning waterings and add a drip system, or continue to start each morning sweating in my PJ's.
LOL same!!
Lol
Great info. I’ve been trying to figure out which way to go for irrigation in my garden. Your Boomer looks like our Daisy. So cute!
I have lupus but love gardening im not very good but your videos are extremely helpful. Especially this one. The heat in northern California is real.
This would make my life so much simpler. Thanks for explaining it all. Like you I had no idea it was that simple.
Wow! I thought it was way more complicated🤦🏻♀️ great detailed tutorial. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Zone 9b.
I'd love to use this to start a drip system in my garden. I'm a cancer survivor and gardening has been my therapy.
I desperately need drip line irrigation! It literally takes me about 2 hours for the front and back. Your channel is awesome! Thank you for the garden inspiration.
I would like that snazzy timer. Oh my goodness it will help me to NOT forget to water on those days when life takes over. 😀
I'm a little bit intimidated with dripping but with you showing me how it's so easy to put together made me rethink about it. I'm in!!! 😁🙋♀️
This would be great. At 65 I need to save all the energy that I can. Appreciate your videos, they have really helped.
Drip line would make life sooo much easier!! Thanks for showing the steps to install one.
Watering for a longer period with less pressure everyday would be really fantastic!! 👏 👏 👏
Great easy to follow instructions. Having health issues, this kind of system would make my gardening so much easier.
Congrats!!
This came at a perfect time. Beds planned, half contructed, dirt scheduled for delivery, seedlings started, irrigation is next.
Using Gardenas system right now but would love to try it. Have an amazing week, Andreas🇸🇪
Drip would certainly make the hot Texas summers more bearable for my plants. Thanks for all the work you do for us.
This first time gardener is thankful for your tips and tricks !
Drip irrigation is the best thing for a lazy gardener like me. Thank you for your videos.
I have nearly all container gardens, so would love this to reduce inconsistent watering. Thank you for partnering with them to offer this great gift!
The drip tube idea has been a thought ,but seeing your illustration ,I know there is hope and more free time so I say yes ...
Yes!
My watering hasn't been as consistent as I would like, I'm a first-time gardener and this would most definitely help my garden in this Rio Grande Valley TX triple digit heat 🤠I've learn so much by watching your TH-cam videos. Thanks
I have my garden in mostly containers and am watering constantly. Drip irrigation would make life easier and my garden so much happier!
WiseOrchard is awesome for sponsoring this give away. I water by hand in the Texas heat and it is exhausting!
Like to really make a sustainable garden in the desert climate. Have started small with a greenhouse and always loved to watch California Garden T.V. with the many videos and tips.
It was 109 yesterday!. How much to water is a constant debate.
Love your channel
I am 79 and need all the help I can get. You did not say how long the drip needs to run or some idea how long. Great job explaining how to do it.
I'll be covering that on Friday 🙂
My oldest son and I were discussing this very subject earlier today. We have a friendly competition for our hot peppers and tomatoes. Thanks for the great information!
I started my first container garden this year at age 59 and loved it....can not wait til next year!
I recently subscribed to your channel because I have wanted to start gardening for a couple years but I live in Las Vegas area and I know that's a whole different type of gardening. I believe a drip system would push me over the hump to actually do this😁
It will really help...especially in Vegas!
i thought it mean dividend re investment program. thanks for the opportunity to get one of theses.
Our hydrangea got over watered last year between the rain and our timer drip irrigation, to have the ability to turn it off with your phone is 👌
Adding a drip system to my garden will save me much needed time and improve my gardening results.
I have been so overwhelmed by setting up drip. Thanks for such an easy video
I have installed drip irrigation a couple times but I still learned a couple things. Thanks for the video!
My husband and I are finally getting serious about vegetable gardening. We have learned a lot from your videos. Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
We just finished our forever home and have zero landscaping. I love drip systems for all gardening/landscaping! What a pleasure it would be to connect the drip system timer to my phone and change things via the internet. Happy fall gardening everyone.
Love it! Thank you, thank you. I have been waiting for something like this. I am 69 years old and I am going to try this. thanks again, Josie Jones
With drip irrigation I would save so much time to enjoy my garden and stay out of the heat. I live in LA it was 103°F today
A drip system sounds so awesome to have. It will make my new venture a pleasure.
Love drip watering. I need it for hanging baskets. That’s what keeps me from being able to go away for even a full day before the flowers suffer.
I finally have my fruit trees on drip. This video was really helpful as I want to set up my vegetable beds without having to hire someone.
Drip irrigation is something I have been wanting to learn about to allow me more time during summers to get out with my kids and not have to be watering everything all the time! I really appreciate this video! Thank you!
