      Great video. I work on an organic farm with LOTS of drip irrigation. One suggestion to viewers: If you are planning drip irrigation on a new garden or other area, install your drip lines before you put down your mulch or compost layer. Foxes and other critters like to tear up the drip lines as a water source as they “investigate” your crops. Happy growing!! 🌻🌺🪴

      @@228Brendon agreed. 18 months ago, I installed drip irrigation around my house for foundation watering purposes and for landscaping plants... But never laid mulch on top, since then, I've had to repair some bite marks that created leaks.

    Good morning! This is my second comment on this video and I just wanted to point out that I have converted my whole backyard from grass to woodchips using the method that I learned from you as well as the drip irrigation. I kept getting big squares of cardboard from Bj's for a while and also my local Market Basket. I also called a few tree removal companies around my neck of the woods (Fall River,MA) and one of them brought me about 30 yards of woodchips. You are a very smart go getter and should be very proud of yourself! You rock!!! ❤️🇺🇦🇺🇸🤜

    Protip: pulling loops straight off a coil introduces a full twist into the line for each coil. Unrolling it along the ground (or off a spool) allows it to lay flatter and doesn't stress the material. This goes for tubing, rope, cable, water hoses, extension cords, data cables, etc.
    Great video and nice yard!

    Hey Dee, I like your video, but you have made a very common mistake. In almost every situation soft garden tubing and stiff PEX tubing indoors can be bent around corners. Just anchor with yard staples or screw clamps indoors. EACH time you add an elbow you reduce your hose pressure by 25%. On one of your runs, if I counted correctly, you were down to about 20% of the pressure you started with. So, by adding an extra 12" of hose to make a wide bend around a corner you keep almost 100% of the pressure you started with. Surface friction is tiny. But, don't feel bad, I often have seen many "professionals" make this same mistake. Good luck and happy gardening.

    • @idlewild
      @idlewild 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You sure about that?

    • @MrMockingbird1313
      @MrMockingbird1313 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@idlewild Yes. Absolutely sure about that. Parts manufactures make heaps of profits from fittings. Hose is cheap. Elbows increase friction and add costs. Simple engineering. But, if you need an elbow then use an elbow. However, you can often avoid using elbows most of the time.

    • @tilu3303
      @tilu3303 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You are making the mistake of conflating pressure with flow. Elbows and joints can slow response time but cannot impact pressure unless there is complete blockage. Of course, pressure IS reduced as flow increases, but drip irrigation is very little flow.

    • @DeesYard

      Hi JoAnn 👋 not a weird question at all! I think that is a great idea and it's definitely doable. Depending on how far you need the water to go, there are even 360' drip sprayers. I've personally haven't tried it before and would recommend contacting dripdepot and letting them know what you would like to do to personalize your system to include a sprinkler to your lawn as well. They truly are great help over there. If you choose to, you can submit your question here: help.dripdepot.com/support/tickets/new

      @@DeesYard one last question well two lol;
      How does the pressure / water get distributed evenly? Seems like the first portion of the setup would have more pressure than the end? This would make a great video. I know a lot of people have the same question.
      Also, where would I place a charcoal filter in this setup, right before the adapter that connects the tubing to the mainframe setup?
      Thank you so much for responding!!

    • @DeesYard
      @DeesYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As long as you are using the proper size tubing for the length/gph you are using, your pressure will be evenly distributed thoughtout the system. For all my runs, I've noticed the water fills the mainline first (front to end) and then networks out to the smaller tubing/emitters. Here is a tubing chart on what size your mainline should be (based on length)
      Tubing Size
      Maximum Run Length
      Maximum GPH Supplied
      1/4"
      30 feet
      30 GPH
      1/2"
      200 feet
      200 GPH
      3/4"
      480 feet
      480 GPH
      1"
      960 feet
      960 GPH
      Carbon/charcoal filters will just replace the filter needed. They should be placed below the backflow preventer.

    Question: when running your drip line off the main line, you re-attached the end of the drip line back at the main line, creating a loop. Is this technique mandatory or could you just plug the end of the drip line? Thanks.

    • @DeesYard
      @DeesYard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely not mandatory, you can just terminate the drip segment as needed. I have done that in many applications as well with no negative effects. As long as you run the appropriate sized tubing needed for the distance, then you will not have any issues at all.
      If you are pushing your limits (like me) with the length of the dripline, then it is better to loop it back for an even flow. I like to do so because I run a lot of water through my big gardens and know it will continue to grow and want to ensure everything is running evenly but not totally a requirement. If that makes sense 😆
