    Nathan, if you shut the fuel off before you stop the generator it will greatly reduce the varnishing up of the carburetor. I have one that does that automatically. I've also done it on outboard motors and I've got a 1965 or so Johnson 6 horse that I don't think has ever varnished up. It also helps to give it one more last pull after it stops with the choke on to get the last little bit of gas out. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

    I know the one thing you love about your home on wheels is the vast windows. However, wouldn't it be to your advantage in 100' weather to cover them up especially while you are attempting to lower the temps inside. Even with double pane glass you absorb a lot of heat and lose a lot of your ac...IMO..Making removable window covers and using them while you are trying to cool down the inside would be more energy efficient use of your home sitting in full 100' temperatures.

    Great episode! Glad it cooled off for you while you were there. We stayed at The Nomad View in June and it was so much more crowded but it was also a lot cooler. We had a herd of cows come through our spot which was a nice surprise.

    We were supposed to be headed for TX (Austin & Houston areas) for medical reasons about 10 days ago. But we were afraid the heat would make us worse & we'd roast - literally - in our RV. Watching you guys deal with the heat makes me glad we postponed our dr visits to the beginning of Oct. We're just praying it'll cool off some so the RV doesn't melt while we're driving there & so its bearable enough for us to live in our RV for a few weeks🙏🏼. Maybe we'll get lucky like y'all & have some rain to cool things down - just don't want a hurricane to deal with🤞

    When you guys were there about 7 years ago I was right behind you, but missed you by a few days. Last year was the first year I didn’t go back to The Wall (Nomad View) since then. It’s my favorite place. The weather is no joke there. In 2021 there was a camper that had blown off the side. A few years before that the wind was so strong that it actually blew my slide in.
    There was very few people there that first time and now it’s very crowded. There is an RV park in Wall proper.
    I think it might be easy for you guys to think you’re not making an impact, but you are. I went because you guys were there and showed drone footage (there wasn’t as big of a delay back then from where you were and when you put out a video). But, I have a ton of memories from there thanks to you guys.
    The last time I was there I met the folks from LOLOHO.

    We've been to Wall Drug twice, but have not camped in the area yet. At least you should have had ice water... 😛 Our Honda generator is sitting in the garage with a bad carb due to old gas, so I replaced it with two smaller generators that can be paired to run the AC, are light weight, and have a gas cut off so you can run the carb dry quickly, and even pour the gas out when it gets a few months on it and leave dry or refill with gas. So much better than the Honda, and almost as quiet. The reason I have not repaired the electric start Honda is due to my age and it's weight. My previous Ram 3500 had a huge alternator and would charge the batteries well, but back then, we didn't have any solar, so the generator was our main option.

I also cover the bath skylight in summer with solar fabric (velcroed inside the frame)…still lets light in but cuts the heat. And as others have said, I would have covered every window while you were driving. Get that you want the view after parking but why let the sun in as you go down the road?

    My favorite area! Camped in a tent there two years ago at the end of July. Set up a tent at 96 degrees and didn’t break a sweat. There’s no humidity and a constant wind. It cools off nice at night too. I hate the heat but this wasn’t bad at all. We did super secure the tent though for the 60 mph winds. That was fun 🤣

    was just at badlands a few weeks ago there, 2 nights camping in a tent. It's was a triple digits both days, it was a dry heat but never again. I looked at their weather and it seemed it was the worse time of the year to go there. Need to go back in better weather to enjoy this NP.
    this was one of the last stops on this year's coast to coast yellow stone ( where I woke ups to low 40's in the morning) Glacier, then devils tower, Blackwood and then here. Next year's trip will be better planned and longer.

    Shade. Cool clothes. Ice. Wear a hat when outdoors (there are evaporative type cooling bucket or baseball type hats but you also can dunk any cloth hat you like in water for evaporative cooling). Evaporative cooling with damp-wet towels on the windows held by duct tape and hopefully so in a breeze. Plenty of hydration and possibly use drinks with electrolytes. "Evaporative cooling vests" are about $40 each and help - available on the Internet. Take any heat exhaustion symptoms very seriously and get cooler fast if you have same. I have lived in 3 hot states and currently am in Arizona. I have trained and competed in hot humid weather in archery. Like I mention, be aware of heat exhaustion symptoms.

You’re problem with your generator, is why we only run our generator on propane. We have had this generator for three years, and it starts right up.

    Boondocking in extreme heat is a calculated risk. It is not as though you are going in there blind. You know what to expect and you have your backup plans. For a short time I think most people could get through it. I lost AC in my house twice during June and survived. I lost AC at a RadioShack I managed and went almost a month without AC. It was miserable and we did wear short sleeve shirts but I survived. We eventually got AC back to running status. The big thing is that adults can handle things a lot better than children. You do have solar and a backup generator and with that much heat you are going to have plenty of sun to charge those solar cells. You just have to be smart about what appliances you can use for those few days that you are not hooked up to shore power. You could use French Press for coffee.

    For weather like this out west you need cotton clothes. Long sleeves and long pants. A hat. The air is dry, so dampen a bandana and tie it around your neck or wear it like a scarf. At 15:00 you are in strong sun and dry air. You could get dangerously dehydrated, especially your daughter.

  • @thomasczyz1279
    @thomasczyz1279 ปีที่แล้ว

    With your generator,,,either empty the gas then run till it stops….or put a mtd petcock from Menards and put in line from gas tank to carberator.
    And run till it quits. Will keep the carb jet clean ….I do this this on everything that has a carb that. Might sit a while between uses..😎

  • @locopixel463
    @locopixel463 ปีที่แล้ว

    the absolute best thing you can do with that generator is to shut off the fuel and let it run itself dry before storage. That will keep the carb clean. I can do that and store it for a year (with gas stabilizer) and it will start on the first or second pull.

    17:57 To the right of that Class A in the foreground is where I stayed last year the first week of June. It was crowded and I grabbed that spot. It is very unlevel but everything else looked taken. The winds were strong and rain blew in early morning. I was leaving the next morning and decided to do a u-turn. There's a faint road between the intersection and the antenna's that was probably a short cut. The BLM has put up T-posts to stop people from using it. The road was so greasy I almost slid into those T-posts when leaving. Thankfully I have a small trailer now and 4x4 or it would have gotten ugly as I had the road blocked. I spent 2 nights in Custer SP but their reservation system is way too long and drawn out. Maybe a week later while still in the Black Hills area gas was approaching $5 and I said "I'm done" I headed back home.

    I’m no expert. But do you have other ways off charging the batteries while driving? Other than solar? In my case I installed a breaker by the battery than ran about 20ft of jumper cable 1/0 wire to a 500w inverter in the rear of truck bed. Than bought a NOCO 5amp or 10am battery charger and put it next to inverter. Than ran wires from batteries to NOCO Charger. N it charges my batteries in conjunction with my solar panel but mainly at night it charges while I drive. Since solar can’t. I have never arrived anywhere with less than 100% on the batteries.
    I hope I explained myself good. Look it up or ask around. 😂 good video though

Just like the van live-ers do,. The windows really make a big difference when trying to cool and heat your rig. They are also really great winters. Really do help to keep heat in.

    If you have a gas powered tool, such as a generator, that won't be used regularly, you should only burn Pure gasoline. Gas with no additives. If your near an airport, you could buy airplane fuel, or just look for a Pure (brand) gas station

    There is a difference between being uncomfortable and being miserable. Don't be miserable. My wife and I tent camped a few weeks ago and it was 93° and 105° with the heat index. Luckily we were with my parents and they have a camper. We hung out in there for the majority of the day

    I'd be more concerned about keeping the kids hydrated. At that heat, your core temp doesn't respond at well to heat. You can become dangerously hot and dehydrated without realizing it until you feel faint, dizzy, or sick. Personal experience, not fun at all.

    We had 90° at Nomad Views in September, but it cooled down to 60° at night. Having been through a heat related illness, it was shocking how quickly you go from OK to really bad.
    But that spot is very special.

    We live in the Phoenix area. Nope. Nope. Nope.
    When you’re cold, you can add clothes/blankets. When it’s hot, you run out of clothes you can remove very quickly!

    Sorry to comment but this is hard to watch over this boondocking a
    Argument. Unless your 100% going into night you going not have enough battery to use AC We been to badlands. Few times I get it. But is it really worth boondockin if you can get electric site in this heat. We boon dock but if it’s that hot we look for power

    My wife and I and 3 kids plus an extra did this same travel on July 2 in route to Yellowstone . We pull a 26BH with a 15 passenger express van. We were looking for a tow vehicle and my wife mentioned a ton van. Went to TH-cam and searched towing with a van and discovered you guys. Thanks for the content.

    I’ll tell you how to survive it. Don’t be in 100° temperatures in your RV ever. Alter your route if need be go high altitude.
